History

Established in 2009.

Opened in May of 2009 in the Jackson Park district of Milwaukee’s Southside. Moving Shadow Ink quickly became the Best Tattoo Shop in Milwaukee, led by award winning artist Mario Zapata and former MIAD students Nina Blasnig, Gerardo Soto and Allen Patterson. Awarded Best Tattoo Shop in Milwaukee by Shepherd/​A-​list 2012 – 2013

MSI-​Tattoos by Artists. Although the art of tattooing produces images, an artist is more than an image maker, more than an illusionist. A great artist is a master of lines and shape-​a draftsman of color. Such an artist can arrange pigments on skin so that they are transformed into light & shadow, day and night, space and objects, bodies or movement. Great artists dip their needles not into ink but into light, shadow and reflections. Knowing how to understand, contemplate, and love a work of art is just important as knowing how to create beauty.

You may never have heard of us before and you will never forget us after this. I wasn’t given this by any apprenticeship or some art school; I was born with this gift. Got my nose pierced a year ago by Lexi. She was very sweet, calm, & explained everything she was doing. She made me feel relaxed & it went very well. She even gave me a recommendation for nose jewelry thru a piercing website. Would go back for sure!

I got my hips pierced here by Lexi. I just had to go to a different shop (Avant Garde) because they were getting granulomas. Turns out she used a really poor bar for the piercing, that is not at all recommended for the piercing I got and that was causing the problem. Lexi is really precise in her placement, which is great, and made it possible for my new piercer to salvage my piercings. However, the precision means nothing if you’re using incorrect jewelry.

I’ve gotten tattoos from previous shops but I will never go any where else again. I agree with the other reviewers I have never been to a shop so clean, and so private. They were very affordable and the artwork around the shop is phenomenal.
Our tattoo artist was Gerardo, and I’ve never had any one else tattoo me with so much passion about what he does. I felt so comfortable and confident in what he was doing I’ll definitely be back for more. His lines are precise and now I wish I would’ve found this shop years ago.
Bottom line: great artists and people, great shop, and great prices.

This shop is top notch. This is my 4th shop I’ve been tatted at, and I feel comfortable saying I won’t be going anywhere else. For as amazing as the artists are, I can’t believe the affordable prices. I’ve met three of the artists, and all were super friendly. Nina did my most recent tattoo, and the number of compliments I’ve received it have already surpassed what my others would have gotten at this point. Please don’t pass this shop up if you want a quality piece done.

Nina hooked me up in a big way. She redid a faded/​flat tattoo into a 3D work of art all by freehand. She rocked it. Place was super clean and friendly from the consult through the entire (4 hour) appt. I can’t wait to have her do another one.

I had a jacked up tattoo done at another shop around a year ago, and MJ hooked it up. Not a normal cover up, but an actual work of art. Did it exactly the way I wanted. Her line work and shading are top notch and she is only an apprentice! I can only imagine how good the rest of the artists are.
The parlor is extremely clean, with a dope ass painting of Aaron Rodgers done by the owner Mario. Lots of privacy in the area where you get tatted, which is different from the open floor plans of other tattoo shops.
They do a great job of making customers feel comfortable and don’t have that old boys mentality of other shops. The recliners in the waiting area are a nice touch too, while you wait for them to draw up your stencil (watching movies).

I think that this is one of the most underrated tattoo shops in Milwaukee. Mario Z is a great tattoo artist (owner). He has done wonderful work for me at reasonable prices. I would recommend you and a friend. I will go back myself… as a matter of fact i need to contact Mario now for a touch up.
Mario is a artist first and a tattoo artist by trade. Which means that he is good with art so that enhances his abilities with a tattoo machine. I would recommend this shop if you want portraits and realistic tattoos.
