Planet Marky

This place is a dump.
A dump with racist rednecks.
The owner of the bar accosted me.
I came here almost a year ago with some friends. We heard about a cheap bar with a tacos, and thought we would start the night here. We were coming from a friend’s apartment where we had been playing card games. By the time we got to Marky’s we were starving. My friend’s girlfriend went to the bar to order a drink, and my other friend and I went to make a taco.
Some drunk homeless looking guy came up to me, grabbed a taco shell out of my hand, and told me I shouldn’t just grab a taco, AT THE TACO BAR. This was unfortunately as he was now touching 1 out of only 4 remaining tacos. I told him he just wasted one of the last tacos, and grabbed the last one. All 3 of us made tacos, and we were just starting to eat them, when the same guy came back and grabbed me by the neck, telling me he didn’t like me. I turned around and stared him down, as other people started getting loud. Apparently this was Marky, the actual owner of the bar, and racist, old drunk.
My friend was upset at the way I was being treated. No one bothered him or his girl. Since I am Jewish and Hispanic, he thought maybe it was because I wasn’t white enough.
We left outside with a guy that was trying to be tough, and also calm things down. He was telling us to chill, but also trying to sleep with one of the kitchen staff. An Hispanic lady in her 50’s. The lady said I reminded her of her son, and wanted to hug me.
The guy who originally was acting tough, then changed toons and said he was just keeping the peace because he wanted to bang the 50 year old kitchen aid.
At this point we decided to call the cops. All we wanted to do was get a few beers, and some tacos, and instead Marky assaulted me by physically grabbing my neck for no reason.
The cops came, and believed us, but advised me not to press charges. There was no camera where I was standing, and it was our word vs. his in court. As I did not live in Milwaukee, since I am from NYC, it would be hard for me to go back to court.
They apologized, where very professional and friendly, and wrote down some info.
We left super mad,
A) at this racist crappy bar, and the owner who laid a hand on me.
B) at the fact that since I was out of town there was nothing I could do legally.
Although there was nothing I could do legally, I did not want to let this guy get away with this Scott free. even if it is just a negative review, it is important that people do something when in unfair situations. This guy should have an assault charge.

I didn’t really care for Planet Marky. It was a perfectly fine dive bar; it has TVs easily accessible to watch the game, a pool table that would have been nice to play but was occupied the entire time I was there, and enough space to hang out comfortably.
For some reason, I don’t know if it was my mood or what, but I found it to be drab and just blah. I think I would like the place more if it were a bit more chill and not so busy. I was there on a Friday night, so I guess it’s my own fault. I usually like dive bars, but this one just wasn’t my bag. I was hoping for a bit more character I guess. But Planet Marky is an unpretentious watering hole; I’ve been to worse for sure.

I have had so many, many good times here. The owners are great and so are the bartenders. Each one is so friendly and down to earth. A large variety of people and the atmosphere makes you feel right at home and comfortable. Drinks and shots are cheap; located in the heart of Bay View. There are tv’s in the bar to watch the games. Great jukebox or live DJ’s that take all of your requests. Small dance floor and trust me you will be up dancing. There are dart boards, a pool table. Just a great place to kick back and have fun.

This place is the anti-​trendy. It’s just a bar, but they don’t charge $ 5 for a beer either. Plenty of TVs to watch the game. Interesting and varied regular crowd.
The bar tenders and regulars are friendly.
Food is fairly limited. Fried baskets of stuff, pizzas, tacos on certain days, etc. Good though.
Go play some pool or shoot some darts and enjoy a cheap brew.

Okay. So I know I know. Planet Marky is totally weird to everyone in Milwaukee. But I am so glad to have found this townie/​dive gem in Bayview. CLEAN bathrooms. HOMEMADE pizza’s. $ 1.50 GIANT mugs of beer and free pool on sundays and tuesdays. There are lots of locals who keep to themselves have some beers and go home. Bikers, wanna be thug dudes with baby mama drama, south side girls with too many kids, off duty cops addicted to the electronic poker machines, sometimes the owner (marky), late night bus drivers, and everything in between. If you like beer and actually want to hang out at a bar, come here. If you want to hear good music — put money in the juke box. If you want to keep up with appearances go elsewhere.
