Great neighborhood store. Unlike a big box, where it’s tough to find even one of the surly, lethargic staff to help you out, there are knowledgable folks all over this place, ready to help.

Sadly, the way of the local /​corner hardware store has came and went, except for this little gem, that’s been here for as long as I can remember. I find the staff to be as knowledgeable as any staff you would find at Lowe’s or Home Depot, sometimes even better.
Aside from typical hardware supplies, this store offers some of the amenities you might find at a convenience store along with seasonal offerings. My only real complaint is the hours the store is open. The store stays open to 8PM on weekdays, but closes at 5PM on Saturdays and 3PM on Sundays. For me, I am typically in need of hardware store goods on weekends, and have gone here a couple of times when it was closed, because the thought of a store closing that early never even crossed my mind.

Shut the doors 5 minutes before they closed. Turned down 6 paying customers. Usually a good store, but this in not acceptable for today’s standards, especially when Lowes and Home Depot stay open hours later.

This is a fantastic locally owned hardware store that has been awesome for getting our new house in order. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgable. I feel like they always have exactly what we’re in the market for. We purchased our Weber Grill from them this last summer and the delivery and assembly was done perfectly and we really appreciate their skill/​ability to handle this for us. Sure Home Depot and Lowe’s are close, but it’s nice to support a local business owner.

I have been going to this hardware store for almost 15 years. That’ how long I have been living just a block of so away. today I got some bolts, nuts, washers and I was in and out in about 5 min.
No big box construction supplies or landscaping stuff, instead they have just about every thing you need for 85% of DIY jobs.
I’ been really happy buying paint here. You’d think shrew in Williams would be the place but the guys here and the products are, to me, just as good.
if you need some help, there is always a store veteran on hand to make sure you leave with the Baggie of hardware that will keep you from coming back in frustration.
A) bring your dog for treats. Mine is nuts for this store
B) bring your mower or snowblower in for sharpening of TLC
C) I think you can still drop off your knives for sharpening
D) hand tool and small power tools for rent is convenient if you are close by.
F) I’d about 50 keys duplicated there – just another old fashion hardware thing
More next time but for now, get here if you live anywhere in the area.

I love this place — and all the guys that work here!
It’s super well staffed, the guys are always eager to help guide me in the right direction, and the prices seem fair for what you need. I have bought numerous products here ranging from drill bits, to spray paint to an outdoor bench for my porch. They offer to set up furniture (for an added fee), and returns are simple.
The store is always well organized and clean, too.
The only complaint I have is that their weekend hours are odd, but they are open until 8:00 on weekdays which is nice.
I will always choose to support local stores when possible!

Puhl’s is one of the last neighborhood hardware stores, where you’re likely to find someone working there who actually knows something.
Sure, there are staff members who don’t know much, but the seasoned vet can still be found somewhere in the store.
You’ll generally find what you need and get good recommendations. Every now and then you’ll find something you want or need and didn’t think you’d find it there.
The Menard’s and Home Depot’s have made several of these types of locally owned hardware store franchises (Hardward Hank, True Value, etc.) shut their doors. It’s hard to compete on price when you don’t have the purchasing power.
My first job was at a neighborhood hardware store, Vetter’s Hardware Hank. It was on the corner of my block and I worked there part time from age 15 to 18, then I referred two of my cousins there to succeed me after I left to go to college. I learned a ton and did things I never thought I’d be doing at that age, like cutting and threading pipe or cutting and bending sheet metal. Who knew?
Plans to open a Builder’s Square less than a mile away caused the owner to close up, since many of his contractor customers were leaving for lower prices and greater selection.
These types of hardware stores will always have a special place in my heart.

Much better than the impersonal box stores

This is my new hardware store, since it’s the closest to my house. I used to live near an Ace and liked that one, but hey, I moved! So yeah, this is a good hardware store. I buy many pieces of hardware here, from ¼″ hex bolts to ¼″ wing nuts. The staff is friendly enough, though I don’t really know them well enough yet like I did at the Ace I used to go to. But hey, support the small local stores!

There’s nothing better than the local expert at the neighborhood hardware store. I’m no Bob Vila however I feel like I am every time I leave this store as you can get a great little education and some friendly how-​to advice no matter what your project.

I’d break the Internet with all of my check-in’s here. The floor help is amazing. Seriously. You get asked if you need assistance at least 3 – 9 times before you make it past the CV piping section. One time my license plate got torn off and one of the guys at the shop went to the parking lot to help me re-​attach it. They also can help with advice regarding cheaper, faster, McGyver methods of DYI home repair. Prices are über reasonable. I go for the advice and to support the local yocals. If you need advice, a key made, some paint mixed up, or some gardening tips, go here. I made a great on-​a-​budget trellis for my climbing beans from materials I got here. It’s been standing through all seasons for the past three years. Paint, pet supplies, GREAT WOOD CHIP selection all from your local hardware dude and dudettes!

Love this Puhls, the quintessential local hardware store. Selling everything from pet food, to kitchen goods, along with the usual gardening supplies and tools etc. Has a impressive selection of hardware, good gardening section that they fill up during the spring with very good deals on mulch, gardening soil, supplies etc. Everyone is very helpful and offer to help with bringing out and loading heavy things like mulch or salt to my car. They also have a nice little binder near the entrance that holds cards for contractors/​plumbers/​dry wallers/​etc that come around, which is kinda neat. Very nice, glad to have this place around!

We’ve been going to Puhl’s for years. Puhl’s is very close to the house and it is not only convenient, but they are the «real deal» when it comes to old school neighborhood hardware stores.
This is the place I go to when I need loose, by the piece fasteners. They have multiple aisles of loose fasteners in different sizes, organized and shelved in easy open metal boxes that you can grab yourself and put into bags to take to the cash register. They’ve really got it all: wood/​sheet metal/​machine/​drywall/​bolts, etc.
Puhls has key cutting and lock set re-​key service that I also take advantage of. Its a great place to get a quick bag of ice melt in the winter, or a bag of mulch or fertilizer in the summer. Seasonally, they always have good deals on large bag items (salt/​mulch/​fertilizer/​BBQ charcoal, etc) that are on wood pallets. The prices compete or beat the big box stores for the palleted items.
Service? That’s where Puhl’s really has the big box stores beat. Everyone that works there is knowledgeable and anxious to assist. They are friendly and extremely helpful.
They have their own parking lot. Never a problem parking there.
I highly recommend Puhl’s as your go to neighborhood hardware store.

One of the 2 hardware stores I frequent in Tosa and I prefer this one due to a wider selection and a bigger store. The staff is always friendly, greets you when you walk in the door and asks «can I help you find anything» if no they leave you alone, if yes they tell you exactly where it is. The whole place has that laid back feel that big box stores don’t have.

I’m a big advocate of shopping locally so my first choice is always Puhl’s over the big box. When I need something small for the house (stuff like lightbulbs, furnace filters, drain cleaner), I stop by Puhl’s first.
Due to the intersection, their parking lot can be a little challenging getting in and out of and sometimes they may not have what I am looking for but overall, I like the fact that they send me coupons in the mail (go ahead and laugh but I am a coupon cutter), my wife and I can be easily talked into buying candy at the checkout, and their location is really convenient (I am all about convenience).

I’m not a hardware store kind of gal, but I’m married to a guy who can and does fix and build almost anything. That means that my husband’s hell is the local mall and mine is the home improvement warehouse. (This means you, Menards)
Still, I really like Puhl’s. It’s small enough to navigate in a few minutes meaning I have to spend less time in the store. But, it’s big enough to have everything you need including paint, weird fittings, light bulbs and an ever changing seasonal area.
The people that work here are genuinely helpful and pleasant and are happy to help you find what you need. Prices are reasonable and they have a Rewards card that sends my husband coupons and gift certificates.
I really wish the whole store didn’t smell like fertilizer but I’m sure my husband wishes Sephora didn’t stink like the latest Justin Bieber perfume. To each his own, I guess.
A bonus is the entertaining experience of seeing the items people are buying. The lady in front of us (who apparently had never seen a credit card swipe machine before) was buying a waterbed fill kit and the largest Charleston Chew I’ve ever seen. Enjoy your Sunday afternoon, ma’am.

Puhl’s True Value Hardware is located atop the large hill on North 68^th Street. They have a large selection of stuff most guys won’t know what the hell it is unless they’re manly men. (I was looking for bug killing spray — sorta manly. maybe.) Friendly staff who know exactly where things are located. Parking is easy as they have their own large lot.
CANDY CORNER: A little nook of candy selections created by two perpendicular shelves with it’s very own colorful sign. Now dad’s can have the experience of telling their kids «No!» just like moms at the grocery stores.

I am shocked that no one has reviewed Puhl’s True Value. This is an independently owned store. They have what I am looking for and if they don’t, they will special order anything. Their service is top notch from the high school kids to the oldest employees. Everyone knows about the items they sell, when things will go on sale, how to mix the precise color paint, etc. My husband took an antique door knob in for replacement parts. The knob was so old, there were no parts. But the nicest associate took the door knob apart and fixed it right then and there. They are always there to help.
I go to Puhl’s before I ever hit a chain (Lowe’s, Home Depot, Menards, etc). I like to shop locally and support the hardware store that is always there for me.
