Schneider’s oozes Wisconsin pride and is a throwback to neighborhood watering holes of yesteryear. It’s not a fancy establishment but what it lacks in that area it more than makes up for it with the service and price. Upon entering, I walked directly past the wide open dining area — no doubt packed for their well-known Friday fish fries. The front bar area is dimly lit and the walls are adorned with Packers, Badgers, and Brewers gear. A quintet of middle-aged guys sat at the bar playing bar dice. College football was broadcast on the small flat-screen TV. You won’t find $ 11 cocktails or ironic mustaches here — just cold beer, deep fried appetizers, and a helluva burger special on Saturday afternoons. Our server and the bartender were incredibly nice and quick to check in multiple times throughout our too-brief visit, though the bartender didn’t seem to know the difference in what was on tap. One of the beers we ordered tasted flat and it was quickly replaced with no fuss. The appetizer platter arrived quickly and hit the spot — onion rings, chicken tenders, deep-fried mushrooms, mozzarella sticks. Sure, none of these were lovingly made by a white-capped chef cursing out their subordinates, but that’s not why you go to a place like Schneider’s. You go here to get a better feel for your neighborhood, to enjoy a(cheap) draft beer, and to possibly get convinced to play bar dice. Did I mention the burger special? $ 1.75 until 3pm for a burger + toppings(cheese/bacon are 50 cents extra). You’re telling me I could grab a burger, fries, and a beer for a 5-spot? Sold! We’ll be back for sure to try the fish fry — our first experience here was solid and all but guaranteed a return visit in the near future.

The food was just okay. It took a long time for it to arrive. The biggest plus was the cost, probably the cheapest place we have eaten at in Milwaukee. Your best bet is just to order the special.

We get fish fries from here once every few months. This is no 5 star dining establishent. But the service is decent, the fish is delicious, and the prices are reasonable. The tables are a little close together, but they need all those tables because of the high demand for delicious fish :)

Cozy place. Located in the heart of the city. Friendly staff. Good prices for food portion. I had the perch fish fry. 5 fillets, potato, and coleslaw for 9.95. Very reasonable prices for drinks. Menu is limited and if u are trying to avoid the fried foods good luck. No wait for tables and looks like lots of people were ordering take out.

Often in Milwaukee or Wisconsin a restaurant is rated on the quality of its Friday Night Fish Fry. Last night we checked out Schneiders. This is one of those places that has been in business a long time and we drive by often and say«we should check out their fish fry one of these days». It is a huge old white house sitting on a hill with a large parking lot. Although it sits in the middle of the city on a fairly busy street, you almost feel like you are«up north» Wisconsin. There is a bar as you walk in and then two dining areas. It looks like one of the dining rooms is typically cleared after dining and becomes part of the bar with dart boards and big screen TVs. We ordered a couple of beers — check it out, they have Blatz on tap! And then checked out the menu — which is ridiculously cheap. I don’t know how they make money when they are only charging $ 3.95 for a hamburger and $ 9.95 for their fish fry. I went with the perch. Came with 5 large pieces of lightly breaded perch, a pile of little potato pancakes, applesauce, a side of coleslaw, tartar sauce and two pieces of rye bread. As fish frys go, this is one of the best I’ve had in quite a while — reminded me of the«up north» fish frys I was used to getting when I was a kid. I could only eat two of the perch as there was so much food. They also offer cod and walleye at ridiculous prices. My husband had a personal 9″ pizza with the works and he commented that it tasted like pizza should taste… in a good way. I didn’t try it, but it did look good and he ate it all. Our servers were attentive and friendly. This place isn’t fancy, and it is not going to be that impressive trendy place to bring your out of town guests, but for a quick, casual, good meal at a decent price, it can’t be beat. Only two negatives. We were at a table near the men’s room and I could smell that oh so unmistakable odor of urinal cake whenever the door opened. And the bar smokers stood just outside the front door which meant you had to walk through a cloud of cigarette smoke on your way in and out. At least they opened the door for us…
