ACE Adventure Resort

With an open itinerary, we received a recommendation by a bartender in Charleston to go zip lining in Fayetteville. I’m glad we took him up on here for several reasons:
(01) THE VIEWS: Those pay for themselves, especially since we went in October when the leaves were changing. The New River Gorge from that high up is incredible, and zip lining with it in sight is even better.
(02) THE STAFF: We had two guides plus my boyfriend and me, making it an intimate experience. Both were personable and funny, making our three hours together enjoyable.
(03) THE COURSE: There are nine zip lines in all with some hiking in between. We went through the trees the entire time, resulting in many «YA-​HOO!» moments.
All in all, it was a morning well-​spent, and there’s a good chance we’ll return for whitewater rafting.

Great outfitter to raft with! Came up during Gauley season for some exciting rapids and was not disappointed. My 2 guides Mattie and Brian were awesome and really knew their stuff.
I stayed in a cabin tent and was a little disappointed with the tears in the netting as well as the large dark brown stains on all of the bed pads. There were also bugs galore, but it’s nature so can’t be helped. To avoid the spiders I saw in the bathrooms and showers near my tent, I ended up using the welcome center’s bathrooms and the showers at the pick up/​drop off point. Those areas were super clean.
The food I had on Friday at the resort to be honest was not very good. I got the buffet style option and was disappointed with the chicken fried steak and other dishes. However, the employees were super nice and friendly. On Saturday, my opinion of the restaurant completely changed. OMG the breakfast was super amazing and tasty with fluffy biscuits, delicious sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, potato hash, etc. The dinner was also really great with roast suckling pig, delicious brisket charred just right, ribs, mac and cheese, and other deliciousness.
All in all, the staff and the guides at the resort are immensely friendly. I had a great couple days staying at Ace and would highly recommend them to other people looking to raft the Gauley.

So much fun and a must do! Jeff was our guide, he was knowledgeable and great! Highly recommend to anyone who loves nature and adventure. Will do again! (After the middle aged aches subside.) Have always done a fall trip, next may be a summer kayak run. So worth the drive from Indianapolis. Everything was perfect! Great weather, super nice people, everything you need available, exciting moments, relaxing moments, kids sleeping all the way home!

Only so many weekends in the year, this was one of the best experiences you could ask for. We came down from Michigan to raft during gauley season and the rapids were awesome. Our guide Drew Stew was exceptional. He took us through some shred and we got pitted in the curl, then he spit us right out of em’. Took a few diggers but we swam through it. Trip to remember.
We took the Upper Gauley it’s the way to go.

Stayed in the cabins with my parents, wife and child while we ran the New River.
Food at the base was decent to good. We ate there for breakfast and a few dinners. Limited wine selections but variety of beers. The pizzas were particularly good.
The cabin was clean and functional. Nice wood paneling. Smelled a bit musty and showers were tiny. No tubs if you care about such things.
Took a zip line trip too which was great. Highly recommend it.

Absolutely any activity you could want. Huge place… very clean. Staff is super nice. Camping areas with showers n bathrooms. Awesome little restaurant/​bar. Waterpark has so many activities. White water rafting was best experience… beautiful surroundings and our guide was so knowledgeable and funny. Don rocks! I recommend for families and adventurers of all ages. This place is perfection.

Everything you need in one place to entertain the entire family and rafting trips for all skill levels. The staff are friendly and knowledgable and they don’t inflate the prices of things like ice, firewood and beer. The lounge has decent food is a great place to grab a drink.

My family and I stayed in the Black Bear Cabin which was beautiful and beyond our expectations. The staff was extemely nice and helpful. Our family did the lower new river white water rafting trip and it was pretty spectacular. River leader Kip was hilarious and our personal raft guide, Max, was amazing. He was very easy to get along with and made our trip fun and exciting. He made us feel very safe but made sure we got to experience every inch of the wild rapids. I would highly recommend this resort and we cannot wait to go back and do the other activities they have to offer.

Went for Fourth of July weekend and had a great experience! I called around to all the various places and it really seems you get the most bang for your buck with Ace. Incredibly clean bathrooms and even heated showers after a long day of rafting. They provided a hearty lunch halfway through the trip which was both delicious and accommodating for the vegetarians. Chickenhead was our rafting instructor for the lower new river (full day trip) and he was as good as it gets. Would highly suggest rafting with him. Genuine guy, with great stories, knowledge of the river, and fun ways to take our experience to the next level. Definitely returning with friends!

This place is the BEST!!! The management is awesome, the cabin rental prices are decent and they have various options to choose from. We were here on the 4^th of July weekend and had an amazing time at this resort. We also got a chance to watch the amazing fireworks close by to this resort as well.
The rafting experience was too good and the guides too were very friendly and polite. They definitely made it a fun-​filled event for us. I would strongly recommend this place if you guys plan to visit WV for rafting and any other adventures.

This weekend I lost my rafting virginity to a supermom in the Gauley River and my goodness was it the greatest experience of my life. Shoutout to my homeskillet Scottie O. for popping the cherry with me! The go to guide to all things wet, he not only guides us through perilous class 5 rapids, he also taught us about life, love, and OTPHJ’s. Navigating through a heavier flow than normal (something ol’ Scottie has much experience with), he managed to keep us alive and get the adrenaline pumping through our portobello’s. Going through such Rapids as the Hungry Mother (named after his old lady), which had us on the surf constantly being tumbled like 2 bees in a ball sack, Scottie O. helped us come out as men, nay, champions. He was the Lieutenant Dan to our Forrest. In a word he was a father, a guru, a brother, a mother, a savior, a wingman. He was four holes in a poncho, and got us soaked. Getting through such class 5 Rapids as insignificant or finding out where he shoves all those missing paddle on Lost Paddle were a breeze with Scottie O at the helm. It was like navigating a kiddie pool during nap time. The greatest moment was when we surfed a rock and lost two of our amateurs friends to the river dragons. So at first when the boat kept near capsizing and rotating around and getting sucked under I thought we were going to die and looked around to see my friend in sheer panic… but not Scottie O. He was just maniacally laughing at the thought of an eternity on this rock in constant surf purgatory. Dante had nothing on us. With some encouraging words, we tamed the river trolls and got out just in time to make it to the bar for happy hour and ordered a Scottie O (a drink named after the legend himself). We are definitely coming back this fall for Gauley Season and can’t wait to conquer the current with our boi Scottie f’n O. Stay awesome.

Nice resort. Accommodations were nicer than I expected. A little slower paced (which is a good thing!) — you just have to slow yourself down. Stayed in a wood cabin/​lodge. Seemed new. Totally clean.
Rafting was fantastic. Yogi our guide was great. Funny, informative but not an absolute chatterbox so you could enjoy the river. Ask for him!

The campsite they gave us was overgrown with grass and unkept. Also be advised you can’t reschedule for bad weather or you will lose your money. So we ended up camping and rafting in the rain.

Went on the lower New at high water, 10.5 ft, and had a great time. Our guide, Chris «fix», did an awesome job of finding the big hits and waves while staying in control and keeping us safe. Good food, knowledgeable and fun staff, and awesome river. I will definitely be back, hopefully for Gauley season!

Have been sitting on this review for a while and was planning on writing a book to compare ACE to River Expeditions but rather. I think I will just fill you in with the major important deets instead.
–Camping: There are an abundance of sites but they can be extremely difficult to find because the map and the layout of the grounds are super confusing. Large sites but not very well kept — just in need of a little TLC.
–Food: Fabulous! Expensive for the buffet, but if you get a good deal (i.e. Livingsocial, Groupon) than its amazing!
–Bathhouse (s): Very clean with individual bathrooms and stalls, so there is plenty of privacy.
–Rafting: Awesome Sauce. All the raft guides are down to earth and chill. They really just want you to have a good time. They provide a «hot lunch» — grills securely placed at their private spot to grill you up some burgers, hotdogs and even veggie burgers.
–Price: Relatively similar to other places in the WV area, if not cheaper.
–Distance from Highway: Quite Far. It is a lot of back woods windy roads, and driving them at night can prove to be difficult.
Overall, I recommend ACE and will probably be back when they’re running another deal. Also don’t forget to check out the abundance of other activities that they have going on onsite!

I went with a group of friends to do one of the full day white water rafting trips last weekend. Our trip was intermediate level but most of us were first timers. There was not a lot of standing around, everything moved quickly so we got started on our trip basically immediately. The equipment and all facilities were really clean and well maintained. We had Devo as our rafting guide and he was really funny and knowledgeable. Everyone we met knew a lot about the area and river but they were still relaxed and approachable while being professional. They have a photographer who takes action shots, definitely check those out because you’ll want to purchase some! Even though we were mostly newbies, we had a great time and no one was injured. We loved Ace so much that we plan on going back in the late summer or early fall and staying at one of their cabins this time.
Note on dietary restrictions: When you make your reservation for a full day trip that includes lunch, be sure to tell them if you have any food allergies or restrictions. I am allergic to gluten and a vegan and they accommodated me.

Stay — we got the family cabin tent for a night. Really picturesque place and has a comfortable bedding. Ensure you carry flash lights as the place gets pitch dark. The family tent has a common restroom and shower and is quite clean.
Knocked off 1 star for the rat in the tent.
Things to do —
Visit the new river george and drive the trail to the river.
Rafting trip is a must. Our guide Lucky was amazing and made the trip worthwhile. We got to swim through two rapids and it was heart thumping action all the way. Has ample number of grade 4 and 5 rapids.

Rafting -$ 134 for a 2.5 hr rad ing trip. Took the fathers day 1+1 discount.

We had such a great weekend with Ace. We went whitewater rafting one day, then rocking climbing and rappelling the next day.
Our guides we friendly and fun, yet professional and safe.
The prices were reasonable and their website is a wealth of information.
We are definitely going back!

My husband and I made reservations to take part in rafting. We got a Livingsocial deal for $ 129 per person for full day rafting and two day camping without equipment plus 3 meals. The whole experience was amazing! I enjoyed most of the meals but my only complaint was about dinner buffet. Vegetarian options were limited to salad bar to the most part. Breakfast + lunch was good.
Our guide did a great job during rafting but she was a bit bossy to be honest. We did some class V rapids with a bunch of class IV and III rapids. All in all we loved the experience. We rented a tent from ACE for $ 10 per day + slumber kit ($ 10 per day). I did not enjoy sleeping in the tent to be honest. Next time, I would try either chalet or cabin tents with bed. We did not stay for two nights, we left after our rafting experience. All in all it was good fun!
I would give them 5 star for adventure and rafting experience itself. But took a star off for dinner + comfort in tent.

We went on the Upper New one day rafting trip with our 5 and 7 year olds and it was awesome.
First, it was a 9am Sunday trip and the four of us were the only ones on and Ace did *not* cancel the trip. Many other companies would have cancelled — they told us on the phone — and pushed us to the 10am trip. But we had almost 400 miles to drive afterwards and wanted as early a trip as possible. In addition, the 10am trip had 50 people on it.
Second, the guide — Chris Hall — was great. He was knowledgeable, professional, and courteous. He took care of us and the kids had a great time rafting, swimming, floating down the river, etc.
Third, the lunch was very good and was actually a hot lunch. Another organization we used a few years ago just had cold cuts.
Overall, a definite five star. We were so impressed with Ace as an organization we are planning on going back for other activities.
