History
Established in 2012.
USPTA Professional Derek Barraclough exemplifies the adage, «It’s never too late to change.» Though he’s had a lifelong love of playing and watching the game, making tennis a career wasn’t in the cards until later in life. Starting out playing four to five times a week, joining USTA leagues, and taking private lessons from an ex– top college player and a tour pro, Derek climbed to a 4.5+. He bronze medaled two consecutive years in Las Vegas’ Corporate Challenge tennis competition. He also entered as many tournaments as possible, his highest achievement being 2nd place in Open Division doubles at the Red Rock Open in Las Vegas. Derek also made it a practice to contribute and be active in the tennis charity events hosted by Spanish Trails Tennis Club on behalf of the American Cancer Society.
After his daughter was born in 2011, at the age of 44, Derek realized he wanted to be as professionally fulfilled as he was personally fulfilled, so he started a career in tennis May, 2012.

Derek B.
Business Owner
In Las Vegas, Derek taught private lessons and clinics, a practice he continued after moving to Northern Nevada August 2012. He has also acted as a hitting partner to juniors, college players, and tour players both in Northern and Southern Nevada. Last tennis season, Derek assisted the Douglas High School boys tennis team, and hopes to continue coaching high school tennis, since he sees such a positive attitude in teens who participate in athletics.
Derek’s passion now is to bring enthusiasm for tennis to the Carson Valley/Carson City/South Reno area, where facilities could use improvements and where hopefully, people can be shown that Northern Nevada isn’t just about winter sports.
