We pulled into this Exxon for gas on our recent I-​20 adventure. From the chain-​link window protectors to the two thugs slouching on the tire filling pump, this place screams «locals only.» Eyebrows raised as my daughter and I got out of the car. We jumped back in immediately; I had flashes of that scene from National Lampoon’s Vacation where they get lost in a bad part of Chicago. We clearly did not belong.
Luckily, my husband pulled up to the wrong side of the tank. When he got in to turn the car around, I urged him to get back on the highway and find another gas station.
Travelers, keep driving. This place is scary. In fact, I’d skip this exit all together.

The stock and staff were sufficient, but the drunk Texan who rolled in and towards the beer – stopping to try to talk to me and then harassing my Asian sweetie – only made my trip to the south more «colorful.»
But, I guess like the rest of the state he was just trying to buy more beer before the 10pm moratorium on alcohol sales. ugh.
