Can You Escape?

We had a blast and wound up coming back the same day after our failed first attempt! The rooms were awesome! We finally escaped the apartment and will definitely be returning for the other rooms. See and Andrea were THE best! Can’t say enough good things

My friend and I were welcomed by 2 of the staff in the lobby and they were both very friendly. After being showed the bathroom and advised to use it before going into the room, we waited for the rest of our room to arrive. We were paired with 2 others and off to the room we went. The staff member who was working our room explained the rules and then we were locked in the Subway. The whole experience was definitely fun and challenging. However, as others wrote, the sound system didn’t work very well and the staff member didn’t always respond if we asked for a clue or she would give a clue to something we already found. We didn’t end up getting out, but since this was everyone’s first experience, we definitely did a decent job.
I wouldn’t recommend this to kids or anyone who gets bored easily.

I booked the Back to Basics room for myself, my son and niece. The story deals with toys and children so as a preschool teacher I thought it would be perfect. My niece is also a teacher so we were comfortable with that scenario. There is a maximum of 6 people allowed in that room. When we arrived (20 minutes early, small lot so we parked on the street) the other 3 people were there. The lobby was crowded. After asking if we needed the restroom, they brought us into our room. They gave us our scenario and started the countdown on a laptop on a table for all to see. It was a lot of fun and a bit nerve racking at the end when we finally solved the puzzle, got the key, but time ran out before we could use it :). The clues were not easy. Good thing the other 3 people helped out a lot because my group was lost. Of course we asked the staff for our maximum 3 helpful hints. I would definitely do it again in another room. Being with other people that you don’t know was actually beneficial since I don’t think my friends/​family would be as helpful getting the clues :). The only critical thing I have to contribute is that they need to update the room because the toys and furniture were broken, old and dirty. A lot of people handle these items and they periodically need to be cleaned, fixed or replaced. The room was pretty sparse which was ok since too many items would confuse you but they need to be updated. Still, had a great time and can’t wait to do it again.

Soooo much fun! I loved this. Went for my sister’s birthday with a group of 10 and it was a good time figuring out a mystery and puzzles with family and friends.

The parking lot that they had in the front is very small, so my family and I got lucky to get a spot.
We walked in and the staff were very very friendly and greeted everyone in my group. They recommend using the bathroom before starting your room so even before going to the place use the bathroom because if there is another large group there, you’ll be waiting awhile since there is one bathroom. We waited about 15 minutes in the waiting area (occupied by the brain games they had by the couches) to start our room– The Apartment.
It’s a decent sized room that held 8 people. Very fun and a great family activity to do. My issue with the room though was that some of their clues were very worn out and even some were broken. For one of the clues it was broken (like one of the pieces was loose), which interfered with my family and I figuring something out. Also their communication system needs fixing. There is delays in the speaker so the staff member that is helping you out with the room sometimes won’t tell you things until a little later since their sound system is delayed. Also whenever the staff member spoke to us, the speakers weren’t clear so we honestly could not understand what she was saying to my family and I when she was trying to help us out with the clues, which did get annoying. Often times we would have to take up time asking for her to repeat what she was saying.
Overall it was a good experience and fun, if they fixed all their problems and issues with the rooms then I’d give them more stars.

We completed the Interrogation Room with a group of 12. I noticed that a lot of people couldn’t find parking because the front lot is small, but we actually parked behind the Chase bank next door. Not sure if that’s «allowed» but it was dark and we didn’t see any signs telling us not to park there.
There were brain teaser type of puzzles in the waiting area, which I thought was good for getting in the mood for puzzle solving. The whole place is a lot smaller than I thought it would be. The staff was friendly and helpful even though it was clearly a busy night.
The room itself was very small and the premise was quite flimsy. It was not well-​lit, which made it difficult to scour through the clues given. Some parts of the room were very challenging but some of it was easy enough that we can guess some of the places/​ways to solve the puzzles without going through the proper steps to get that clue. The two extra clues we requested during the game didn’t help much at all. The sound system was broken so we had trouble communicating.
But overall, it was a lot of fun little puzzles to go through. The only suggestion I might make is that flashlight and bigger notepad for writing the clues might be helpful, especially for big groups. The price point was nice, not sure if we had coupons or deals because I did not make the reservation. It wasn’t the highest quality but it was a fun thing to do on Long Island with friends.

Limited parking! So make sure you get here early or there is a meter on the street. The female owner seems cool. Her husband started off personable and chatted while we were getting ready for the room. But at the end of the evening I found the husband to be quite condescending. The group of women I was with and I did not succeed in getting out. And at the end of the evening when we wanted to know the next steps that we missed he would give such a long winded answer that when we just wanted to know specific things he would tell me to be quiet and that the other older women need to teach me how to be patient and quiet. Rude!
It’s cool that they have little puzzles to play with before going in.
What I can say is I do not like! how you cannot leave your room to go to the toilet. I think that’s despicable. In previous game experiences we’ve always had the option to leave the room and easily to boot. To not be allowed to leave the room isn’t nice!
I don’t want to give things away but the room we were in was way way way too hard. The man husband told us that the room has a 16% success rate. That’s ridiculous it’s not fun when it’s that frustrating. We needed so much more than three clues and the clues were not helpful. And they need to fix their intercom system because it was really hard to hear whatever the clues were. Like I said this was not my on my mothers first experience in a game like this. But it was definitely the worst experience. And I’m not saying that because we didn’t succeed I’m saying because it was so difficult it was like there was no way for us to succeed. It was way too frustrating! When the husband was giving us the next steps that we missed we would’ve easily needed another half an hour or more to succeed with those steps it was crazy. We were in the interrogation room!
You could not pay need to go back to this particular escape game location!

Fun time for all. We did the one in nyc and both times we failed to get out. This time we did the subway car.

Wow, so much fun! My friends and I went on a whim and it was a fantastic experience. The staff was friendly and helpful. We did the Back to Basics room in Mineola which was a lot of fun (I mention that it’s Mineola because they also have a location in Long Beach). Most of the puzzles weren’t particularly difficult but some were a challenge and require you to think outside the box. They offer up to three hints to help you through the puzzles. We used one hint to get through the last puzzle (much to our chagrin) which we solved and opened the door with 7 minutes to spare! We’re already planning our next visit! I definitely recommend this!

I’ve done two room escape before this, so I think I’ve gotten the hang of things. Two friends and I spontaneously decided to this, as we were already on Long Island and looking for something fun to do.
Pros:
— It was fun! But then again, that has more to do with the group that you’re with. We were in the Apartment, so we were with 2 other people. It was perfect, considering the size of the room.
— There were puzzles in the waiting area to keep you entertained while you wait for your room to be ready.
— The staff was friendly. My friends and I arrived early, and almost every employee greeted us and asked us which room we were going to play.
— There is a key in the room in case anyone gets claustrophobic or has any other emergency.
Cons:
— It’s small. Limited parking options, the waiting area can only fit so many people, and the room itself can get a little cramped. For 5 (relatively short) girls playing, it was just right.
— The clues given weren’t very helpful. We got one clue, and a while after we asked for a second. They told us the same clue that we had gotten before? It seems that they don’t pay too much attention to what we’re doing in there. Not only did it take a while to get their attention for the clues, but we also had to tell her what we had already completed.
— Value. For $ 28/​person, I just expected it to be a bit nicer. One of the props (which we needed) was broken, the ceiling tiles were coming off and some other clues were a bit worn.
Look out for a coupon for a discount on this. It’s a good way to have some fun on Long Island. I’d recommend going to the city for a better experience, though!

Great for groups!
Love that there’s an alternative to the long trek to NYC for a room-​escape experience. While not the most challenging, the Apartment escape had a twist that we all DID NOT see coming at all.
The staff was extremely friendly. My group hung around for a half hour after we escaped and played some of the puzzle games with the staff in the lobby before we left.
Can’t wait to come back and try a different room. Highly recommended for all Long Islanders.

Our group of 12 was composed of myself and three friends plus 8 strangers. We had a blast! The interrogation room was difficult but by working together, we came very close to making it out. We thought the use of the black light was a nice touch. The puzzles and riddles kept everyone involved and guessing the whole time. Would definitely try the other rooms in the future!

This was my second room escape experience and it was just ok. When we arrived we were «greeted» by a dramatically panting employee who said as soon as we walked in «ugh, phew, I’m so tired, ugh. What room are you here for?» We were a little taken aback and said we weren’t sure but passed over our booking sheet. She barely glanced at it before saying «I don’t need this» and thrusting it back. Without any direction and feeling confused we sat down to wait. As the other players arrived the employee never once welcomed anyone, explained we should sit and wait, or provided any other instruction. However, she talked a lot. I know that this stranger hates snakes, but only the ones that hate her, that she loves watching people fail on the screen bc it’s fun for her, that she has never ever seen anyone escape this particular room but every other employee has, and that she thinks there’s an 8% pass rate. Ok, if I’m signing up for a game that has the word «escape» in the title, on the sign outside, and on my purchase, maybe don’t repeat to me half a dozen (truly could’ve been more) times that my chance of success at escaping is only 8%. What a defeating way to begin an experience. Also, if every other employee has seen people succeed but it’s always when you’re «out sick or not around», you’re basically announcing that you will be no help to us and causing me to immediately wish we hadn’t come. This was my birthday present and I was pumped before getting there. After our «introduction» we strongly considered just leaving before being locked into a room that we had very, very little hope of escaping. Luckily we decided to stay bc things did get better. We were in a group of 12, just a smidge too large I felt, but do-​able. There were plenty of locks, clues, puzzles, etc to keep everyone guessing. The strangers worked well together and we got pretty far, but did not escape. I love these experiences on the whole and would do more, but it seems worth the drive into the city for the more reputable, experienced venues.

This was an extremely fun and unique activity for a group of 5 – 6 people. I would definitely do it again.
If you like thinking and solving puzzles this is your kinda thing. It also shows you how other people think, and it’s really fun to observe. You really get the feeling of solving complex puzzles with collaboration that you may not have solved alone (or they may not have solved without you).
It would probably be a great bonding exercise for colleagues that have to work together on projects.

Something fun and different. Great with a larger group of people.
Signed up for interrogation room with a party of 6 adults and everyone of us loved it. It was intense and dramatic, and the one hour just flies by so definitely make use of each minute.
Will return to try out other rooms.

Had a lot of FUN!!! Definitely come with a group of people and it’s totally not what you expected but a great way to get your friends more involved! Definitely come and try it out!

Cool and different experience. I booked the interrogation room for 2 on their website after purchasing a deal on Groupon (which I recommend using, why pay more when you don’t have to?) Anyway, our appointment was for 7:30pm, we got there on time and expected to get things started but unbeknownst to us we were sharing the room with another group of about 8 people and all of them weren’t there yet so we had to wait for all of them to arrive, which kind of ticked me off because I was under the impression that (1)it would just be the 2 of us especially when a reservation had to be made and (2)why did we have to wait and additional 15 mins to accommodate lateness?
Everyone finally arrived and we were taken to the room and the fun began. I’m not going to give too much away. Just try to work together as a team. The hour given definitely goes by extremely fast. Even though we had a good time, I wish the owners would place a limit on how many people are allowed in one room. It was way too crowded in my opinion which makes it 100% harder to focus on the task (It can get really loud and too many hands and opinions). Additionally, they might want to put a disclaimer on their website letting people know that their group might not be the only group in the room being reserved. I didn’t recall seeing that on their website and it wasn’t a surprise that I was happy about. It was my birthday and I kind of wanted to share the experience alone with my boyfriend and have some healthy, fun, competition between each other not a crowd of strangers.
All in all, it was a fun experience and I will give it another try. Oh! We didn’t make it out of the room. We were REALLY close though. Lol!

THE BEST TIME! I just went to Can You Escape? LI this past weekend for their soft opening with my family and friends. We all had a great time! The staff was courteous and accommodating to our group. It was thrilling and entertaining. I loved working as a team to escape the room within the time allowed. I can’t wait to try some of the other themed rooms! I can see this be a lot of fun for people of all ages (we even had a 7 year old in our group).
