Specialties
Catalyst Mental Health provides creative, intelligent, and dynamic services that empower people to realize their full potential. We provide therapy for individuals, groups, couples, and families. We are most well known for helping people with compulsive/impulsive behavior patterns, including obsessive compulsive disorder and a wide variety of «behavioral addictions,» such as compulsive use of pornography and the internet, spending and hoarding, and use of drugs and alcohol (the «mental» side of chemical dependency). We also provide formal chemical dependency assessments. We recently added telehealth services a well.
History
Established in 2011.
Catalyst Mental Health was founded in 2011 by David Townes. Early in his career, David realized that a lot of the dysfunction he saw in the lives of his clients was due not seeking any sort of help until their problems were completely beyond their control. Recognizing the damage that could have easily been prevented, David committed himself to figuring out how to make mental health services more appealing to those in need of them. To get some fresh ideas, he enrolled in a part-time MBA program at the University of Minnesota in 2008. Shortly after finishing his MBA in 2011, David launched Catalyst Mental Health as a solo private practice to test out some of his new ideas in the marketplace. By late 2012, David’s practice was being contacted by more interested clients than he had time to handle, so he started hiring more therapists in 2013. Catalyst Mental Health will likely continue to grow and expand as these new additions start applying their talent toward the founder’s mission.
Meet the Business Owner
David T.
Business Owner
I can say with confidence that I am not your typical mental health therapist. For starters, I was a football player in Texas during high school and a wilderness guide in Colorado during my summers in college. I also have a Masters in Business Administration, I’ve developed my own computer software, and I play around with mathematical algorithms in my spare time. I practice therapy because it helps keep me grounded. Nothing is more meaningful than making lasting improvements in the lives of others. I specialize in treating compulsive/impulsive behavior. This includes «behavioral addictions,» such as compulsive use of pornography and the internet, compulsive spending and hoarding, and compulsive use of drugs and alcohol (the «mental» side of chemical dependency). I have a secondary specialty in helping adults with autism spectrum disorders.
