Colonial Cleaners

Nice that they don’t use all the nasty chemicals, but the prices are on the high side and the service is on the slow side. Perfectly serviceable cleaner, but no reason to go out of your way.

I’ve used Colonial Cleaners a few times, now. I first went there because they didn’t use toxic chemicals. This summer I brought in 2 hand-​stitched tablecloths; each had set-​in stains for many years, which I hadn’t been able to remove. They were honest and said they might not be able to get them clean, but it was worth my money for them to try, as they were heirloom pieces from my great-​grandmothers. They surpassed my expectations… both tablecloths look wonderful! I highly recommend this cleaner!

I was seeking a dry-​cleaner that didn’t use perc (and who /​likes/​that chemical smell on your collar? Ugh!), and found Colonial Cleaners to be an average-​priced cleaner with good customer service that fit my needs. The store is very clean inside and smells nice, and has homey little signs about laundry everywhere. I was slightly taken aback when I dropped off my two wool coats to be cleaned, as the woman behind the counter greeted me, took the coats, gave me a receipt and started to walk away — I guess I’m used to cleaners asking if I have any special concerns or areas to focus on in cleaning. I snagged her and quickly told her my couple of concerns, and she said «ok, we’ll take care of it» without making any kind of note of it, so I left slightly apprehensive. But I came back 5 days later, paid $ 15 per coat, and received two wonderfully clean, chemical-​residue-​free coats! The woman who helped me when I picked them up was nothing but kind and attentive. I’ll be back!

I miss this place. $ 20 to clean a down comforter in an environmentally-​friendly fashion and within 3 days seems reasonable to me, although I haven’t been to a ton of cleaners. They do a wonderful job on work dresses, as well.
To be honest, by supporting this business I’m not expecting fast or cheap, I’m just hoping that I won’t breathe in toxic chemicals every time I snuggle into my comforter after it’s cleaned. And this place delivers on that 100%.

First, a single item is $ 6.95 to clean.
Second, I was quoted 9 days for the tailor to sew on a button, which seems like WAY too long.
Third, yes they use «green» cleaning chemicals, but WIRE hangers. These are harmful to the environment and almost impossible to recycle. I’ve seen plenty of dry cleaners who don’t even claim themselves as a «green» cleaner that use recycled, paper hangers.
Fourth, customer service sucks. The two people I dealt with were unfriendly.

I love that they don’t use harmful/​toxic chemicals. They are one of the few dry cleaners in town that use a green cleaning method. I thought they were very fair priced and did a great job. They also hemmed some jeans for me and did a great job. They are close to my work — I’ll be back!
