Dan’s Nicollet Car Wash

I would like to start out by saying the staff are very friendly. But when it comes to getting you vehicle clean I might suggest going some were else because this place can’t wash windows and door hinges and do not by the extreme works they will not get you vehicle clean I had to go back and my windows and door are still dirty

I’ve gone here a few times because it’s conveniently located, but I’m done. The line was only 5 cars deep and it took 50 minutes before I got my car back. Apparently, they were having mechanical issues with the track — would have been nice to have been advised of this before I waited. Add to that a couple of broken bathrooms and a half-​assed car wash overall, and Mermaid Car Wash seems worth the drive.

Been going here for years but today’s service was particularly great. Every bit of chrome was polished ’till it sparkled and there isn’t a fingerprint to be seen on any of the hard surfaces. Thanks guys! MSC

Not bad. I came in to just get my car vacuumed. Both guys I chatted with said Even though it’s not an option listed they’ll do interior vacuuming for $ 7.95.
Outside and inside is a little unpleasant looking, but it’s a car wash! Great service great price.

I just got a $ 21.95 car wash, had a coupon. The people were more than polite. The vacuuming was pretty good but there is still a considerable dust on my dashboard and consul area. This is why you get a detail or just an outside car wash, I think the ones where the vacuum are pretty standard it’s a quick and minimal job.

After getting home I spoke with Dan and he explained a few things.
1. The fresh scent should be requested from the gentleman or lady that takes the car, not the cashier in order to ensure your request is honored.
2. The center console is not included with the works.
He is very professional and clearly cares about his business and his reputation. His customer service is 5 star.
He will be performing training for the staff that are newer to make sure they vacuum and hit all the points that they should.
I will be back to try Dans again and I will replace my 2 star with 4. Of course that depends on the third time around. Fingers crosses, I am confident they will deliver like before.
I am excited to start referring his business again.

Wow. The first time I went to this place they cleaned everything. The floors the dash the center console. The works was great. We referred tons of friends– whether or not they went there who knows… But I went there…
We brought two cars and got the works. $ 24.99.
This time they didn’t even vacuum one side of the car. They dash is dusty and the center console is still gross. And they did not include a scent like they said they would. In both cars. So disappointed.
Why go here for $ 24 bucks if they are only going ti pay attention to what they want?
I will probably stick to holidays car wash then vacuum myself since I had to do it anyways and save $ 15 bucks.
I want to go back but I don’t want to risk quality. It does not matter how busy they are. If they sell one thing– please provide it

Well. Went back again because there is no other options in the area. It doesn’t even look like the inside was cleaned. Crumbs everywhere. Smudge marks on everything. Terrible!!! I would not go to this place. I would drive out of your way to get better service.

These guys do a poor job at washing and even worse at drying. I will not be returning.

This place does a good, full service car wash. I’ve never had any issues with the equipment damaging the car. The problem is that I swear they only have one employee washing cars. Even if your just 4 or 5 cars from the door it still takes 30+ minutes. If the line is out to the street then you need to be prepared to drop an hour on this car wash. I would pay 2x for a fast pass around the line

LOVE these guys… they really went above and beyond for me the last time I was in. I asked them to help me get a part of my car unfrozen that had been stuck shut for days because of the cold. They took the extra time needed to get it warmed up and opened for me without making me feel like I was taking too much time. We use this car wash all the time and the owner always greets us when he’s in.

I wanted to love these guys. I’ve been looking for a place to get consistent work done and thought the reviews looked great. I was incredibly disappointed.
I called to schedule an interior and exterior detailing (which was quite a bit of money), and was excited that they had an appointment for the same week available. That was where the positives end.
–I showed up and they had not written it down on their schedule appropriately, so instead of the 2 hours I was told, it was going to take 3. I took it as an honest mistake and told them to contact me when it was finished or if there was going to be a change in time.
–I got no phone call, but since I was without car, I walked up to the place to be sure I was there when it was supposed to be done. I was told they were «just about to call me», but I could look at the vehicle if I wanted.
–The trunk was not cleaned, the bugs weren’t wiped off the front, and there were still leaves all over by the windshield. I brought this up to the (manager?) on duty who said that if the car was dirty, it can be hard to get clean, but at least acknowledged that little effort was made and wiped it up quickly. My thought at this point was along the lines of, «Isn’t the whole reason I’m paying you $ 170 so that you can clean a dirty car???»
–As I was getting ready to leave, it was pointed out that they hadn’t even removed the wax from my vehicle, AND the guys were talking within earshot about how the vehicle was «gross». Yes, that is why I was paying for your services. Please show some professionalism.
–The floor mats were left in the trunk of the car to dry, but when I removed them, they were so soaking wet, that they left a full trail of cleaning solution for the full block and a half I carried them towards my house.
–When I got home, I realized they had taken out my phone charger and not replaced it. I called them and left a message telling them, but got no response. I called a few more times over the next 2 days to try to get a person to answer. When I did, I was greeted with more unprofessionalism and no effort to resolve the issue. When I eventually spoke to a manager, he found it and told me I could come pick it up and would give me a free car wash for my trouble. I told him I was on my way and would be there shortly. When I arrived, the girl at the front desk gave it to me without any explanation or apology and said she thought the manager was maybe going to do something for me as well (the free car wash). At that point, I just decided that the last thing I wanted to do was spend more time waiting to do business with these people and declined her offer to go find him.
This is quite possibly one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had with a business. There was one individual who made an effort to be helpful and pleasant, and I feel terrible that I didn’t get his name. To the guy who was working the service desk on Tuesday afternoon — I hope you find a new job. You can do much better than the business you’re currently working for.

Terrible! I went through one day and my car was only halfway clean (I keep it nice and have no kids, so it wasn’t because it was brought in filthy). At that time I didn’t know I had to ask special for the rubber floor mats to get hosed off– I figured when you said you wanted the Works, you got it. Anyway, I drove away unhappy, but got only a couple of blocks before I decided I should really go back and just talk to someone about it. I asked for a manager and this person comes out and asks what my problem is. I showed him the dirt still remaining here and there, and asked about the floormats and he said that was an extra charge. I wouldn’t have minded paying the $ 2 but he wasn’t interested in doing anything about it. I showed him everywhere there was evidence of a lack of vacuuming and he said, «that doesn’t look like it’s been vacuumed to you?» I finally said, so you want me to drive away unhappy twice? No response. So I left. When I got home I showed my husband (not a clean freak) and he laughed out loud at the dirt inside. I can forgive a halfway clean job if I am treated respectfully and someone fixes the issue. That’s not what I got. Boo! The Downtowner does a great job, try them.

I really want to support this business. Sadly, they don’t deliver. Dash and interior not wiped down at all. Back to the Downtowner.

No attention to detail. My carpet were still dirty, they didn’t wipe down the dash or consul. Anything that didn’t get washed in the automatic washer did not get done.
The boys in the shop were too busy fooling around hitting each other with towels and playing on their phones. No wonder nothing got cleaned.
This place is in such a great location and should be busy all the time. I was surprised there was no line on a nice day, now I know why. They do do a good job or even a an okay job.
If I want my car washed, I will make the 20 minute drive to the Downtowner Car Wash in Saint Paul. Which is too bad because I would like to support businesses in my neighborhood.

I went to this place with high expectations after reading the glowing reviews here on Unilocal.Unfortunately I was turned down for the service that I really wanted to get. I drove a good ways away so I could use a nice car wash place that offered reasonably priced carpet cleaning. Carpet cleaning is part of their «express» detailing service packages that do not require an appointment. The only problem is that when I requested this they told me they could not do it! The owner himself replied to a reviewer here on Unilocal stating that the «express» detail services don’t require an appointment, but apparently he is mistaken or not quite sure how his employees are running his car wash. I set up an appointment because I don’t know of any other places that will clean my carpet for a reasonable price. If I can find one before the appointment day then I’ll be going elsewhere. Very disappointed

Once your car gets into the wash — they are pretty fast. On a nice be prepared to wait — it’s about 20 – 25 minutes if the line is to the curb. They are a couple of bucks less than some of the newer chain washes around the cities for a basic wash. I read some of the low reviews that are dragging their total score down — some of them were crap so this place’s rating should be higher!

I’ve used Dan’s for several months and watched the sever ice steadily decline. At first, I was pleasantly surprised by the attention to detail. It is not cheap for their «works» package but it was by far worth it for the treatments on exterior and the vacuum and whipping down of the interior.
However, now the exterior is never wiped down (tons of water left leaving marks), mats aren’t even clean and the back isn’t vacuumed. I would much rather pay less
and get this kind of shotty inconsistent service and leave with a still not clean car.

Had interior and exterior detail yesterday and was very impressed. $ 180 and 3 hours made our car as close to new as it could possibly get. Extra attention was paid to trying to buff out exterior scratches, and stains on leather were removed.
The waiting area probably could be nicer, I did not notice any coffee or anything edible there, just some magazines and a TV, but Cub grocery & pharmacy is right next door if you want to kill some time or get a snack/​drink etc.
Location is right at the 60^th street exit of 35W and with frequent Nicollet Ave. bus service.

Normally I would be loathe to spend money on something as silly as cleaning my car because it seems so unnecessary, plus it’s something I can do myself if I really want to clean out the old sandwiches from underneath the seats. But recently BF has been giving me grief about how ratty my 13-​year-​old VW is looking, and I was feeling like treating myself, so I made an appointment for the full Interior Detail at Dan’s.
HOLY COW!!! My ratty old car now looks brand spanking new! I’m in love with my Beetle again after all these years. I had no idea how great my car could look. John did a phenomenal job – I’ve never met someone so incredibly excited to clean out a car, he was seriously jazzed when I arrived, and later spent about 5 minutes explaining to me how the carpet in my car is manufactured and why it’s more difficult to clean than regular carpet – now that’s a guy who loves his job.
I now see the light, and will definitely return to Dan’s at some point in the future – and specifically ask for John. I probably won’t wait another 13 years. Who knows, maybe this will become an annual thing?
Highly, highly recommend. Just do it!

Dan’s did a wonderful job on my car! They spent a lot of time vacuuming out the crumbs and dog hair and did a great job on the floor mats… my pet peeve! The guys were friendly and encouraged me to look through the car. When I asked them if they had vacuumed under one of the seats the guy immediately grabbed the vacuum and went over the area thoroughly. He asked me to come around and examine it and make sure I was happy. Not one ounce of sarcasm in this interaction either… that’s a rarity now. I will definitely go back for a detail!
Car washes are not a large profit margin business and Dan’s pricing is excellent for the quality of the service. Even so, I’ve had poorer treatment and poorer quality of service at more expensive places. Dan’s is worth my repeat business… despite their very uncomfortable seating in the waiting area.
