Harriet Brewing

Harriet Brewing is the kind of spot I want to go out with my friends AND my family when I’m back in the Twin Cities visiting for the holidays. The places where this is possible is far and few, but Harriet Brewing gets the gold medal.
I attended a show here the other night, and had a great night of entertainment for only a $ 5 cover charge. After hailing from San Francisco where I’ve lived the past year, it was refreshing to pay only $ 5 or $ 6 for a quality craft beer and catch some live jams.
They have live music most nights, but if that’s not enough of a sell, they have more beers than I can keep track of and a cool, intimate cluby vibe that’s great for a night with friends, or a dad date.

We have had a few trips to Harriet Brewing, but today we finally got the brewery tour, so it is time to write a review. We brought my parents to HB for the tour as a holiday gift and it could not have been better in part because we lucked out and had Jason, the owner, as our guide. I love all the breweries opening up around the cities, but some of them are so polished that they have lost any appearance of «crafting» beers. Harriet Brewing, with its former beer judge/​chemical engineer/​garage brewing owner, gives off the vibe of a vintage craft brewery which is not surprising since it is the original craft brewery in Minneapolis.
Harriet Brewing has a warm, comfortable atmosphere, with unobtrusively good music, and eight delicious beers. If you haven’t been, go.

I want this place to be a 5 star I truly do. So far the beer is excellent And they are accommodating when it comes to filling growlers. I just want to have a brewery close by, with no cover (ever) that doesn’t play loud music every night. I will certainly come back for the beer is high quality (coming from a home brewer) but I will be taking to go, someplace with more than 10 chairs and where I can carry on a conversation.
Guess I’m just getting too old…

I first came here for Cosmic Fuse (every Wednesday in December) and fell in love with the brews here. Not too hoppy but very flavorful. The ambiance is very hole in the wall, dive bar-​esque. But more for hippies. Lots of unique art and tie dye every where. There are food trucks outside on most busy nights. The downsides include a strong smell of fermenting wheat that smacks you in the face when you walk in the door and the small seating area during the winter. I’m told summer venues are much more enjoyable when the garage doors are open, but I’ll have to leave another review when I experience that. For now, definitely worth it to see my favorite bands perform and drink good beer.

I am embarrassed I have never been here before, but it was true. I met a friend here to try some beer, go on a tour and catch up while listening to live music. Sounded like a great Sunday evening plan and Harriet delivered. There were 7 beers we tried in the flight (minus the IPA). I have had a few of their beers before, but my favorite had to be the Dark Abbey. They brew European, but mostly Belgian beers.
I must say the space was decorated by a drunken creative mind. There is a lot of tie dye, bright colors, super high warehouse ceilings and wild stuffed animals. My favorite has to be the highlighted cougar (?) in the corner towards the front. Best part is the daily live music. It’s pretty loud, so don’t expect to sit inside and have a conversation. There are picnic tables and space outside for people and dogs. I was also impressed by the vinyl collection that was off in the corner. Someone immediately started to play an old soulful record after the band had ended. It was a nice touch and I think anyone can pick a record out to play.
The tour was very informative, as this place has a long history in Minneapolis. I learned they would give away beer samples back in the day, since city laws didn’t allow them to have a taproom and sell pints right away. Of course, now the space is used as a taproom, festival location and you can even buy growlers on Sundays.

WONDERFUL atmosphere, great music, great beer and rotating food trucks. This is a great place especially if you like German beers.

I really like the Belgian beers here! They all have that awesome bubblegum/​juicy-​fruit character that I’m a big fan of. The last couple times we’ve stopped by, they have been having hippie jam fests with bands and food trucks. Even with the larger crowds, the people slinging pints were able to keep up with the demand. Will definitely be back!

When I first stepped into Harriet Brewery I was surprised at how small the space was but I quickly found myself warming up to it. There’s seating along the counter as you first walk in and a few tables inside for seating. Not to mention a huge stage for LIVE music.
Harriet Brewery offers tours which is what our group came to do. While I was waiting for my tour to start I was quickly offered a sample of one of their brews. I opted for their «Harriet Pils». It was tasty! There was plenty of beer for all to sample during the tour too. Overall I wasn’t that impressed with the tour itself. Since the space is smaller there really isn’t that much room to move around during the tour. It probably last about 30 minutes.
There were a few «fun facts» that I learned from the tour. Harriet Brewery «brews» about 18 – 20 different beers per year. They always have their staples like Harriet West Side Belgium IPA, Divine Oculust and a few others. Their brews tend to follow the «seasons» of Europe. They also support the Art community by displaying local artists works on the walls. All available for purchase.
I think their outdoor space here is awesome. If you love to play Hammerschlagen then this is the place you will want to be. Combine that with «live music» every night and you’ve got a great spot to hang out sipping on some Belgium Ale.

I can’t begin to rate this place. we stopped in to try this local gem out. We’ve been to many other local taprooms and other places around the region. Didn’t make in the ‘front’. …i should say ‘back’ door. For a taproom to expect a $ 5 cover each to walk in and have one pint and done… just plain silly. Are they failing that miserably that they need a donation at the door? Check out Insight, great place, delicious beer and no cover charge just to walk in the joint.

My friends and I hoped to come here for a good time, have a few beers, listen to live music and it was a complete disappointment. Music was awful. Two beers on tap. No food and they didn’t offer anything to do. Very poor brewery. Considering I have been to many other breweries in the cities, this one ranks right at the bottom.

Based on previous reviews and Harriet Brewing’s website, I expected more. I don’t mind walking around back, but they only had 4 beers available when we were there (even though I think 6 were listed on the draft list). My friend and I went with one sample of each to share and could barely finish those. I think we tried an IPA, a sour… and I don’t even remember the rest. It’s been less than a week since I’ve been there and I’ve already forgotten.
Two stars only for the artsy vibe and sweet turntable set up.

Don’t feel like a tourist… go around back to enter party patio! Good brew. Artsy vibe. Live music and food truck.

The set-​up here is a little odd with access around the back. Up front they look totally deserted but around back is a party patio and an open and airy space to enjoy what is pretty delicious beer.
I’m happy we made the trek around back because there were plenty of bike racks and lots of people out enjoying the weather. Better yet, this area is fairly secluded from busy streets nearby so it provides a nice city refuge.
Accessible via the Greenway with a slight detour and sweat-​friendly.
One sing for the painfully slow service the afternoon we visited. Only one guy pouring beer with an awkward system for grabbing each different (and proper) shaped glass per beer.
They do take cash and Square, so that’s a big bonus.

I visited Harriet Brewing this past weekend to hear one of my favorite bands from the Duluth area, Tin Can Gin. I have tried Harriet at a few brewfests but I never remember anything sticking out. I wasn’t a huge fan of the beer, mainly because it was mostly Belgian beers, which are not my favorite. I tried the Dark Abbey and the Doppleblock. I didn’t like either of them.
Like: I like that they have an area for bands and they also have a food truck right outside.
Dislike: They are a newer brewery which means they don’t have all of the bells and whistles of other breweries around the Minneapolis area. It’s basically a garage with picnic tables inside. Maybe a cool area to check out in the summer because they might open the door!

Fun taproom with live music, good beer, fun décor inside + sunny patio outside. Check their website for music lineup and to find out which food truck will be there. Sometimes the music can get a tad on the loud side, even if you’re sitting on the patio, but it’s still a fun time if you’re in the neighborhood!

Wow, a brewery that is just a couple of blocks off the green-way…I can bike home!
This is a great location and they have a dynamite beer garden. I know there are different names for it and I am sure someone out there knows it but this is just a good fit. They have a nice little stage area and both times I have been here they have had bands playing which is nice. They have some outdoor tables, hammer-​schlaugen (that game where you try to hit the nail into a log while getting wasted) and a great vibe. They also have food trucks outside which is the in-​thing to do. Now the last time though they had a little local sort of Bluegrass band and they were charging a $ 6 cover. For a place that is only open till 10 (it was 7) that’s not a great live music deal in my opinion. If I wouldn’t have been so damn thirsty I would have moved on.
I do really like their beer here and will wish it was more available around town. That said the one thing I don’t really like is they give their beer odd names and the bartender guys seem to be some serious pronunciation snobs. If you’re going to give your beer some dumb-​ass crazy name, don’t be an ass when someone struggles at the pronunciation ! #ikeabeernames

Yes, yes, yes.
Microbreweries are popping up ALL over the TC area. Yeah, this is another one. But, it’s not just another one! Harriet Brewing is awesome because it focuses on Belgian style beers. I think all microbreweries should have a niche, and this one does theirs so well.
Belgian style beers are not for everyone, but they are for me. Not to mention, when you take the brewery tour (which is quite tiny), you get a free pint and your tour group walks around drinking a growler the whole time!
This place is so welcoming. Its a total odd ball, Bob Marley, hippy joint, in a lot of ways. But it has such a community feel. They have food trucks almost daily now, loads of good live music… I came here for the beer, but I stay for the atmosphere.
In fact, this review has made me decide that I am going to Harriet tonight. See ya!

Let me begin by saying that I don’t drink beer. I was here for some friends’ show and had never even heard of Harriet Brewing prior to receiving the invitation to show up.
That being said, I heard a lot of good things about the beer they make (which was flowing freely), and it’s a really cool space. The Moral Omnivore was parked outside for good eats for the hungry.
If you’re a beer drinker and are looking for a really cool place to get it, stop by, I think you’ll be glad you did.

Unique brewery off of Lake Street. There are are 5 or 6 Belgium style beers on tap. The beers were seriously strong and really good!
This brewery its self is cool and laid back. There is live music, and I guess a cool patio in the summer time.
We were there on a brewery tour, so they accommodate large groups. We had 38 people.
Prices were reasonable. I am looking forward to visiting again this summer.
