This is my go-to coffee shop. The fresh baked goods make the place smell amazing, and the coffee and teas are very good. The banana bread in particular is always moist and delicious. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, and the décor is eclectic and full of personality without being pretentious. A perfect place for breakfast with friends, or studying on a Sunday afternoon.

Great little neighborhood style coffee shop. The workers are friendly, both towards the customers and to each other, which signifies that it is a decent plaxe to work. One noteworthy thing was that there is a small sign near the register explaining how tips and gratuity is not accepted/necessary since the workers are paid a wage above the standard to take that into account. There is a mix of table seating areas and an area towards the back with a fireplace and sofas for a more comfortable seating situations. Music plays overhead that is not too loud and is conducive to both studying, conversing and whatever else one may do at a coffee shop. The beverage selections at this place contains all your classic standard coffees as well as loose leaf teas. There are a few pastries on hand. I tried the berry crumb cake which was delicious. All in all a nice place to spend an afternoon at a coffee shop. The only contrivance that I could think of was that I left smelling like a coffee shop.

Friendly. Small town feeling, Rustic yet Victorian & delectable options. Baked good aroma swells the streets & the baristas are always kind. This corner café is open to all types of people & has the feel of a family. Wrapped in love-you’ll be welcomed & want to stay.

When I walked in, I was quite underwhelmed, to be honest, the place could use a little TLC. A little fresh paint, new lighting fixtures and a deep clean wouldn’t hurt. So I kinda wrote this place off while waiting for my drink. But then I tasted the drink I ordered. Holy cow– hands down the best vanilla latte I’ve ever had. So I guess if you’re willing to overlook the aesthetics for a quality cup of coffee, stop by and give it a try.

Some of the best cold press I’ve had in Minneapolis. Very smooth and flavourful, they definitely have a great roaster. There were also a ton of baked goods available and my chocolate banana bread was perfectly moist and delicious. They also had some ‘day old’ discounted pain au chocolat which was good and quite the deal at only $ 1. If this were easier for me to get to by bus(it’s right on a bus line with a stop right outside but on a line I never use) I’d definitely make this my go-to coffee shop.

Had a great cup of java, the staff was friendly, and they have a sign by the register indicating«no tips» thanks to the fact that they have restructured their pay policy and now pay more to their staff to make up for tips. Plenty of pastry options – including some gluten free. Outdoor seating is available, which will be great if this state ever decides to stay warm :)

Royal Grounds is an adorable little coffee shop tucked away in Kingfield and it’s worth stopping in if you happen be in the neighborhood. They make awesome vanilla lattes and the service is always fast. Great spot to meet friends — very cozy spot!

When you first walk in you are greeted with a warm solace from the frigid cold outdoors and the wonderful aroma of coffee beans. This coffee shop, which does not serve blended drinks, is still very good. They have an excellent hot chocolate comprised of warm milk and house made chocolate syrup. Overall they serve high quality drinks and have a very friendly atmosphere.

I have been in the search for a cozy coffee shop and this place really meets my expectations! Located in a quiet neighborhood, it feels less commercial and more homey. While I was there there were mix of people from millennials working on their laptops to parents with their children. Didn’t feel pretentious like other coffee shops in Uptown. The place isn’t too big so during busy hours it might be harder to find a place to sit but since it is tucked away it did not seem crowded or loud when I was there. I only got a latte but they did have some pastries that looked very good. They pay fair wages so you don’t have to tip yet the prices are almost the same at other coffee shops I go to. Makes me wonder if those other places are overcharging me since the prices are the same yet I «should» tip there. Service was great as well. Would come back again!

No tipping! Great family-run, neighborhood place that has a sign on the barista counter discouraging tipping, since they already pay a living wage to its employees. Wish I had a place like this in my neighborhood! Coffee and pastries are solid, but it’s the«cozy» vibe of this place that bumps it up to 5.

Met a friend for a cuppa at 1 pm. I am a huge fan of Missoula Nights tea which I usually buy at Seward Co-op. Seeing it on the RG menu was a treat. The best part was the savory bread. At only $ 2.50 a slice it was heaven on a small plate. Looked like a steaming slice of gooey bread and tasted like sophisticated Fall dressing or bread pudding. Lots of herbs, bits of veg, satisfying in every way as a light lunch. My friend’s quiche was also tasty, but different in that the filling(sausage, red pepper, and cheddar) was at the bottom of the pie and not mixed in. All in all a great experience!

love this place. Great pastries, chai and Italian sodas made in house. Coffee is also top notch. They have a great assortment of gf baked foods if you’re into that. My sister was visiting and she is gf and it was such a great breakfast option for us. They are also very family friendly. Lastly, they pay fair wage so you don’t have to deal with tipping. Thanks royal grounds! Keep up the good work! Love having you in the neighborhood.

I loved my experience at Royal Grounds! I’ve been wanting to check it out and finally did this week. I like the relaxed neighborhood coffee shop feel. It was cozy and modern without the«I’m not nearly hipster enough to be here» vibe. The baristas were friendly and the Mexican Mocha I ordered was delicious. My friend and I also got some baked goods, which were equally tasty. I will definitely be visiting again!

Best neighborhood coffee house in town! Always friendly, warm, fresh bakery, and yummy Mexican Mochas to beat! They serve other specialty drinks too in a wonderful, hometown atmosphere. And Lucky Day antiques is right next door!

This morning I needed to continue nursing my holiday hangover with some food and wakey juice, so I decided to visit RG to change-up my coffee house routine. South(west) Siiideeee… Nothing says«neighborhood joint» like baristas calling folks by their first name, the elderly chatting about old times, and moms playing board games with their kids. Royal Grounds definitely has an awesome and friendly buzz. The staff there welcomed me with a smile and patiently answered all of my questions I had about their goods. I decided to recover with a French press and Glorious Morning Muffin, which only came out to a little over $ 5. My dark brown caffeine elixir tasted deliciously strong and not too acidic. I also had my fill since the French press produces about two and half cups. As for the muffin, I think this may be one of the best muffins I’ve had in recent memory. The Glorious Morning has raisins and carrots that make it slightly sweet and pulpy, respectively. Unlike most muffins at cafes, this one tasted steamy fresh and pillowy soft. Essentially, it’s a fibrous marshmallow.(Sounds weird, but that’s the best way I can explain it.) No wonder so many parents with their children were there. I’m sure the muffin is a creative way for children to eat carrots. Aside from the coffee and food, Royal Grounds has sturdy tables(didn’t need a newspaper to stabilize any of the legs), comfy chairs, and music that didn’t make my ears bleed.(I frequently perform at hip-hop shows, and I can’t even stand the noise level at some cafes.) I also love the fact that they support local businesses by selling their goods. I enjoyed perusing through the funny selection of holiday cards and small painted canvases. Bravo, RG! My only suggestions are that Royal Grounds could provide more outlets(for us mobile workers) and make better use of the empty white spaces on the walls(since the shop can come off as a bit stale). However, I’m really just being nit-picky. Overall, Royal Grounds’ coffee is on par with many of the other stellar coffeehouses in the Twin Cities. Although, I think their food is what makes them special. Seriously, I would like to see other joints bake their own goods daily. I can’t wait to return to buy some Valentine’s Day cards, another cup of coffee, and of course, a Glorious Morning Muffin. If you’re in the area, check out Royal Grounds.

Royal grounds is everything you want in a local coffee shop. I can walk here, grab a coffee, read the paper, and get work done. The Nutella mocha and orange mocha are heaven on earth. They make delish egg sammies too if you need a lil substance. Def my fave coffee shop in town.

This review is less based on the product itself, and more based on the all around experience I had. :-) Ok, it’s Saturday morning and my husband and I want coffee– but not just any coffee. we wanted to go somewhere with chairs or couches, the sun shining on our face, and the hope of the weekend at the door to greet us. Royal Grounds was that place. We’d never been here before, but I spotted it when I was on a run in the neighborhood last week. The place is a dooooorable, da’ling. The place smelled strongly of bakery items, and I actually think they back their own, which is impressive. And they offer what look like very tasty breakfast sandwiches. However, we elected for a cappuccino and a latte. Here’s the deal. I used to work at a coffeshop, so I have higher standards. But then, so does every self-proclaimed hipster in Minneapolis. Anyway, the milk was sweet and delicious, the latte was properly foamed, BUT the cappuccino was not exactly a cappuccino. But, eh, close enough. The place has comfy seating, books, games, a kids area, sunlight, plants. Everything good. Basically, I went here looking for a particular feeling, and I got that feeling.

Cute place in a residential neighborhood. Feels like being invite for tea in someone’s home, complete with an array of seemingly fresh homemade baked goods that could have been fresh out of their oven displayed on the counter top. I liked the selection of tea(might have been from Tea Source). Red berry was so fruity delicious.
