Excellent retail spot. Fantastic wine selection with genuinely helpful service. Craft beer section continues to grow, and I’ve never looked for a liquor I didn’t find here. Wine pricing is the best in the city.
Gave four stars due to the parking lot, but kudos to the traffic control guy who keeps everyone organized and laughing.

I have been shopping at South Lyndale Liquor for years and it just dawned on me that I have yet to review them. They have a fantastic selection of everything: wine, liquor, beer, you name it. Great prices and lots of specials. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. They have frequent tastings and if you want to try an expensive Scotch for example before paying a lot of money for the bottle, they will oblige. Today I dropped by and started talking to one of their distributors about his wines so he opened a couple of bottles to sample to help me with my selection. The other customer relationships are also great. Today I brought back a wine which had been compromised (oxidized) by what appeared to be a bad seal and they made good on it with no discussion. They are also dog friendly, parking is easy, and they provide carry out. All in all an excellent store.

They have a huge selection, well organized, clean, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and a good rewards program. I was there on a Saturday evening and they were busy, but I had three different people offer to help me and make recommendations. They’re really good about calling for back up when they don’t know something. Highly recommend!

this is the go to place if you are looking for extremely hard to find liquors. they keep in stock many rarities that you usually have difficulty finding even on the Internet to order. This is my destination for rare herbal liquors like chartreuse and German herbal variants like underberg and killepitsch. The owner has always been helpful in offering to add new liquor brands to their stock that I have requested. top notch customer service.

This place is huge, as is their selection! This is the only place in the state (that I know of) that has White Oak Rum from Trinidad :) Most of the staff is really knowledgeable, especially about their plethora of wines.
There’s no need to leave Fido in the car because you can shop with your pup (you’ll find a dog dish by the door), and you’ll often find the owner Dan’s Saint Bernards moseying about the store.
My only criticism is that their hours could be longer during the week – we tried stopping by one time before a party, and they were already closed at 8pm. So, check the hours before you go, but definitely check these guys out… you may discover a new drink of choice :)

Awesome Italian wine selection! Every time I go there, I question any underlying alcoholism I might have due to my inability to leave with only one bottle of wine… They don’t judge. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. Trendy beer selection, which my husband appreciates. Altogether, a neighborhood gem.

I’ve never been to Minnesota. But now I think I want to live there. For a liquor store.
So my former neighbors moved to Duluth and opened a distillery. They’re Vikre Distillery and they rule. They make several varieties of gin (spruce, juniper, and boreal), and aquavit. But their stuff is hyper local, and is only available at a few places in MN. Rather than book a plane ticket (this time), I picked up my telephone machine and called South Lyndale Liquors to order a bunch of gin from the Northwoods. South Lyndale does have an online ordering system, but I had to call, since you can’t ship booze to MA and the online system doesn’t allow you to bill to an MA address either. Puritans really did a number on MA in terms of our access to alcohol. But I was actually having it shipped to CT, from where I would smuggle it across state lines. I’m ok with picking up a phone once in a while, and the guy who took my order was super friendly (I have New England standards for friendliness so maybe he was not actually that friendly, I don’t know).
They do deliver locally as well, which is such a novelty to me. And completely awesome. Shipping to CT was via FedEx, and was pricey but worth it. They pack that stuff up very securely, and it arrives in 2 days or so. To really get my money’s worth, I ordered 3 bottles of gin. It’s gonna be a good winter!

I challenge anyone to find a better selection of beer, bourbon, single malt or wine. This is my main go to place and it’s a hike for me. The whisky selection is the best in the Twin Cities. I know, I’ve stopped in about every place in Mpls and St. Paul just to see if anyone has some of the rare whisky I’ve been trying to find.
This place also has the best craft beer selection as well. If then dont’ have it, it doesn’t exist.

Why didn’t I start going here earlier? As some guy I took to be either the owner or manager told me, it’s «an adult candy store.» Perfect for slow, leisurely browsing with plenty of tags with suggestions or news clippings to read on every shelf. Good rewards program. Dog friendly. Very good wine selection that thankfully does not lean unduly California-​heavy like many other stores. Good case deals on non-​sale items. Most prices more reasonable than other top-​tier wine stores in the area.

Yes, I am a sample junkie. But I always end up buying, so I don’t feel too bad.
Anyway, this place is great for a couple reasons.
1. Samples. Yes. They not only have promotions with samples/​tastings, but they also have a wall of open bottles. Curious about that $ 60 scotch but don’t want to invest and regret it? Sample. Its a genius idea.
2. Prices. Very fair. Maybe not the cheapest, but pretty close.
3. Variety. Loads of wine and whisky. Not the hugest beer selection, but they did have what I came in for.
4. Parking. The lot is decent and when it gets busy, they have someone out tending the lot, which I think is a nice detail.

South Lyndale Liquors is as good as a liquor store can get. They have the single largest wine selection I’ve ever seen. No store in the Twin Cities can compare — they may have as many bottles as South Lyndale, but they don’t have as many labels. Their wine sale is happening right now and its the largest you’ll find.
Whiskey selection is enormous with more than half of it open to taste including very expensive selections. The tequila selection is impressive to say the least and the beer guys have told me they hold nearly 14,000 craft beer labels in their system.
Seriously. Drive across the cities to get there.

South Lyndale Liquors has the biggest variety of wine you’ve never even heard of, flavored bitters you didn’t even realize you needed and scotch that you’ll never dream of affording. It’s truly impressive how much they fit into this store and how unique the offerings are. This is the perfect place to walk in without any idea and come out with something surprising and delicious. I love the amount of opportunities they give to try before you buy. There’s usually a sample bottle and some cups around featured products and they have lots of wine and beer tastings. Definitely join their loyalty club, every $ 250 spent on non-​sale items amounts to $ 10 off.
The parking lot is truly something disastrous, park on the street and walk if you can.

I don’t mind when South Lyndale Liquors holds liquor/​beer promotions and tastings because the people handing out samples are usually very low pressure but extremely knowledgeable when you ask them about their product. And hell, who doesn’t like a little taste of something good while shopping?
Not so much last night…
2Gingers Whiskey was holding a tasting. While most promotions include one or two people handing out samples, this particular «event» included 10 – 15 women and an aggressive sales guy in a flashy suit. The women were all hanging around the registers and the tiny walkway to the beer section where I was heading. It took me a second to realize that they were all there as part of the promotion because none of them were actually buying anything. I had to sneak by one girl who was more interested in her phone than hearing my polite «excuse me».
After making my selection, I was immediately poured a sample and that’s when it got just plain weird. As I was tasting the concoction, the suited man made a bee line towards me and greeted me with «hey brother! How have you been?!» and gave me a fist bump as if we had met before. At that point, I knew I was in for a sales pitch and would have to ride it out because I was literally surrounded on all sides by the 2Gingers crew. After hearing about how much women love 2Gingers and how popular I would be if I bought some, I politely said no thanks and again, had to weave my way through a crowd of 2Gingers promo girls.
I mentioned something like «that’s quite the gauntlet they have going there» to the employee who was ringing me up. She played it off as if she was having fun but if she was, she didn’t exactly look like it.
I’m not sure if that promotion crew was 2Gingers doing or if it was South Lyndale that hired them to sell more booze but either way, that kind of high pressure sales tactic isn’t exactly «suited» for a neighborhood type liquor store in my opinion.

By far the best liquor store in MPLS. Their wine selection is top notch, the beer variety is stellar, the spirits are always intriguing, and on my current no-​drinking stint I’ve found that they stock so many types of my favorite N/​A drink, ginger beer! As a ‘preferred customer’ you receive $ 10 off every $ 250 spent there. Unless I can’t help it, every wine, beer, spirit, and ginger beer purchase happens at SLL.

This is the kind of liquor store you can shop at or just pick something up. I thought other places had a good selection until I came to SLL, by far the most variety out of anywhere I’ve been before. Liquor, Beer or wine they have tons of choices for everything. Not only do they let you taste almost anything before you buy, but they have a rewards program to boot! Just your ID and name, no email to sign up and you get $ 10 for 250 points, (approximately $ 1 per point). I think I’ve found my new spot, even if I do have to drive a few extra miles.

I’m not saying that I’m giving this review 5 stars because they are an extremely dog friendly establishment, but the fact that I walk my dogs here and they can weigh in* on the wine I’m buying, is a nice perk.
Every time I’m here, I just have to stand in place staring at the wine on the shelf and a friendly face will show up and ask me if I have any questions. I usually just ask them to talk about their favorite wine in the vicinity while I gaze at them and bask in their wine knowledge. Basically, I buy whatever wine they put in my hands as long as it’s not bazillions of dollars.
Speaking of not bazillions of dollars, their wine sale is amazing. Everything is really well-​priced here already, and with their wine sale, I always want to go a little crazy.
Love this place. Love the big St. Bernard named Tobias. Love the people who work here. Love their wine selection. Love love love love love.
*Chloe is a fan of dry chardonnays, whereas Charlie has strong preference for jammy riojas and spicy grenaches. :)
