Food is five stars. Absolutely. Atmosphere is okay. If you are going out for great food then go here for the food. If you are going for atmosphere then go somewhere else and leave the wonderful food to the rest of us.

First the good news — At least one cook from Chai Thai is also part of this re-envisioning of Chai’s. And it shows. His green and red curries were fantastic. Some the same core dishes as Chai’s, but cheaper. I loved to get the vegetable green curry, because it was only $ 6.50! And great. The pad thai is as good anywhere. I hadn’t tried them, but their simple menu also included some Indian dishes, I’m guessing the place had been bought by a South Asian family and they had kept some of the Thai dishes and added some of their own. Now the bad news — the last time I went there that cook was not present, and the red curry was pasty tasting. And now there is a sign on the door saying«closed for renovation.» Sounds like a euphemism to me, covering up for something like — closed because we are disorganized and not sure what we are doing and who is going to own the place and/or cook. They certainly weren’t open long enough to need a renovation. If and when they reopen, I’ll eagerly be ordering the green or red(panang) curry and updating my review.

I was very sad when Chai closed. Now I am little less sad because Asia Kitchen took over. The menu is very limited, but the curry is good! And the pad thai too. I decided I would love to have the green curry sauce alone. Just spoon it over rice and you’ll make me happy! It is a great, spicy concoction that I would eat any day. The pad thai is also good and even if there is a lot to eat on the plate, I always finish it(and will start the diet the next day ;)). The bahn mi are also OK, but according to me the curry is where the chef excels.
