Turbo Tim’s Anything Automotive

Consistently great experience with Turbo Tim’s, especially on my most recent job — replacing a busted sensor in my older, high-​mileage Chevy. The job was definitely outside their comfort zone, but they were fully transparent about what would be involved — and, once I brought the car in, with the project’s progress. In the end, the replacement was successful and came in at significantly less than the dealer’s quoted charge. Plus, the mechanics clearly took pride in their work, which is rare to see (at least on the customer side). Would recommend these guys to anyone.

Never again. Kept hearing all the rave reviews, so brought our cars there a few times. We won’t be returning because the customer service is terrible. Dropped the car off on a Thursday, knowing it may take a couple days since I didn’t have an appointment. They said they’d call with an update on Friday. Never called. I called them on Monday morning, got the update, they said they’d call again Monday night after they’d started the work. They never called. I called them on Tuesday evening. They hadn’t even started the work yet. Promised they’d call Wednesday night. Guess what. They never called, and never heard from them again all day Thursday. They finally looked at the car more closely and determined it needed a part that won’t be in for several days. I’m hoping to get the car back two weeks after I dropped it off.
Another time, our car died, and AAA told us it was the starter and battery. Turbo Tim’s replaced the battery, said starter was fine. Brought the car home only to have it not start again and need it to be towed again. It needed a starter after all.
If you don’t need your car for two weeks and don’t need a loaner, and don’t need to know what’s going on with it, then this is the car mechanic for you.

Turbo Tim’s has always provided fair and accurate quotes each time we bring our car in. They are have provided pressure free, honest, (as far as I can tell), advice and answered any questions we’ve had about work needed to be done. Things that we have had «fixed» other places, TT’s actually fixed, and for a much more reasonable cost. They’re great. I’ll never go elsewhere!

Pretty sure most of these reviews on here are the owners friends or something. Why the hell i received such shitty service is beyond me, Especially with all the praises these fucktards get. Im gonna tell you my experience. From when the truck was first brought in, to the last.
Problems that needed to be fixed: Gas tank strap and parking brakes (manual truck)
Brought it to them told’m whats goin on and they said they’d call me when its ready. Get a call the next day to come get it. Grab it and Go to the gas station to fill up. When its nearly full, all of a sudden «splash drip splash», the gas tank itself is leaking gas profusely. Bring it back immediately and tell them the problem «We’ll have it ready tomorrow». Tomorrow comes around and get it. Try and fill up with gas again, this leak is fixed but now it wont let me fill up?! About .03 gets pumped in before the pump shuts off. Look underneath and theres a fuckin kink in the hose. I also happened to notice at this time that the car was sliding back with the parking brake on too. Bring it back to them AGAIN, «shouldnt take more than a hour to fix». These dick heads literally made me sit in their lounge for an hour and did nothin to my truck. I still have no decent parking brake and my hose now has 3 steel o rings around it in order to un kink the hose and is already starting to crack. Why i received such a shit show of service is beyond me. $ 1000 later and nothin. Do some thorough research before taking your car in anywhere. Youll get scammed here.

Everyone needs a good mechanic in their life, and as someone who has tried many (and hates almost all of them), good mechanics are hard to come by. But Turbo Tim’s is just that, a good mechanic. I love this place, great people, my only complaint is that I had to call them to get updates on my car, and the entire repair process took longer than expected. Granted, they were doing quite a bit, but I’d at least like to be more in the loop. Overall I’m willing to be patient because they do a really good job for very cheap. I got my oil changed, an alignment, a transmission flush, and brand new discs and pads on the front axle, all for less than $ 500. Plus, they have cats that are super cute and a very comfy waiting room with video games and movies.

Turbo Tim’s is THE BEST shop in the metro. I live in the south metro & brought my Cadillac to the shop down the road & they refused to fix my oil leak problem because it was too much work. The dealership wanted $ 1500 to fix it. I brought it Tim’s & it was done in no time for under $ 500! Thanks Tim!

Updating my original review, I’m only knocking off one star but I may be looking for other, more efficient auto shops for repairs or services when I’m crunched for time. I don’t know if they’ve recently gotten busier or if they are short on mechanics but they seem to be struggling at maintaining the 1:1 customer experience and not prioritizing customers that schedule appointments.
The last time I was in, I scheduled an oil change a week ahead of time. I arrived on time and said I’d be waiting on the couches for my car. It was a hot, humid day and I thought I was going to pass out in the waiting area (no a/​c, no fans) because it took 2 hours for them to even get to my car. Once they did, the oil change only took 20 minutes. They said they were busy when I arrived, but I just needed a simple service at a time that I scheduled, I don’t understand why it took so long. I wasn’t even warned that they wouldn’t get to it for 2+ hours, I would’ve taken a walk or went to an air conditioned coffee shop. I’ve also scheduled appointments in the past for various services and my car doesn’t get looked at for hours past the time that I scheduled. A bit disappointing.

As a Pizza Luce driver I can speak on the behalf of the drivers at the Seward location and say Turbo Tim’s has been the quickest, most reliable, and cheapest automotive repair shop in Minneapolis. Their new location and shop is remarkable as is their customer service, I wouldn’t go to anyone else.

After getting tricked for years by dishonest mechanics, I had given up on finding a honest mechanic… until taadaa! I found TurboTim’s Automotive. Their honesty is unprecedented. I have so many instances of this, I could fill this whole page with examples. My wife’s 2001 Toyota Echo always gives us trouble and I have always had TurboTim give me a honest assessment and helped me get the car fixed at the cheapest necessary cost possible. That’s right, TurboTim’s mechanics persuade US to buying lower cost or after market parts for certain issues because they knew that would suffice. In contrast, I had taken similar issues for review at the dishonest Rudy Luther Toyota who have manipulated and fleeced us out of $ 1000’s of dollars. After decades of search I found the most honest auto repair shop in the US and it’s right in our backyard. The only one complaint I will make is that they never accommodate for appointment-​based oil changes (like I come in, they change oil and I drive out after half an hour), or at least never accepted one from me. This can be a HUGE point of convenience for folks like me who drive from the farther edges of the cities. So please do consider.

Reviews are important to me, it’s how I determine where to go or what to buy. For this reason, I feel obligated to write this review!
Posted my 2008 Civic sedan on Craigslist, a friendly local buyer wanted it inspected and chose Turbo Tim’s for the inspection. I was blown away at how thorough the inspection was! Learned stuff about my car I didn’t even know was there! Andrew explained what noises it made, where it came from, and even went out of his way to determine what needed to be replaced if it wasn’t immediately apparent. They’ve won my business, in the future when my cars need repairs I’m taking it here! I’m even recommending them to all my friends!

I called Turbo Tim’s because of the GREAT reviews being an honest and fair garage. They went above and beyond my expectations.
I had a poor experience with another garage who had quoted me DOUBLE of what Turbo Tim’s did, so I had my car packed up and shipped off to Turbo Tim’s.
I called to let them know my car was coming and they got to it the next day, confirmed the issue at hand, and waited patiently while I decided what I wanted to do about it. (I was looking at repairing and/​or replacing the engine block of an older car). They were super friendly on the phone, explained everything in detail, did a break-​down of the cost of repairs, provided me with alternative options, and were NEVER pushy to make an unnecessary and/​or costly repair.
Their quotes were HALF of what I was quoted at the garage I previously had my car at. HALF!!!
Regardless, it was an old car and I decided to kiss it goodbye instead of stick more money into it. When I went to the shop to grab my stuff from the car and settle my bill, he says, «Nah, I’m not even going to charge you.» WHAT!!! Very generous, especially considering I had no business to give them since I was junking my car!
Bottom line here:
Great customer service — it is apparent that they give a hoot about their customers.
Fair pricing — Like I said… they quoted me half the price of the garage my car was at.
Just bought a new (used) car and hopefully it won’t need a visit to a garage anytime soon but if/​when it does, I will definitely be going to Turbo Tim’s!

I have been here for 2 – 3 different things and while there’s been a few hiccups, everything overall is great. They are very quick in fixing any issues like being billed incorrectly, which did happen to me once. But Tim, was very quick in reaching out to me and getting the issue fixed while providing great customer service along the way! I never felt brushed off or felt like I was given a trite excuse for the mistake. The mistake was acknowledged, an apology given, and mistake was fixed right away. I wish more businesses were this easy to work with!

Turbo Tim’s is the best garage I’ve ever been to, hands down. Whether it range from the level of customer service (Tim and Forrest are both awesome to talk to), or from the level of expertise (they were able to diagnose my problems immediately), I was very happy with them.
Recently I had my car died on me in the middle of the road, and I was able to both call and text Tim to let him know my issues and that the car was being towed over. He’s been great about giving me honest prices for everything, and accurate time estimates for jobs, keeping me updated along the way. When I did wait at the shop for my car, the waiting room was great, and Bobbie sat on my lap the whole time.
I’d really recommend Turbo Tim’s to anyone who’s been ripped off by garages before, and to take advantage of their ‘bumper sticker discount’. Even though I live in Richfield, I’ll be making the trip up to Northeast every time to get work done.

It’s true! I did pet Bobbie while waiting for my car!
My car was leaking something that was soaking my floor mats & making a horrible squealing noise when I drove. I know nothing about cars & expected them to tell me that I needed things fixed that really didn’t need to be. About a hour later, the mechanic came in & told me he fixed my car & that my total was $ 33. I almost soiled myself. Every other mechanic I’ve been to I’ve had to pay around $ 50 just to get the car diagnosed, then whatever it costs to fix the problem plus labor.
Very honest & very nice. Highly recommend!

When my office moved to NE I was overwhelmed with the amazing local food… come to find there is also an awesome local mechanic in the area as well! Dropped my car off for an oil change over lunch. Service was very friendly and oil change was quick and there was no big sales spiel about changing all of my filters and xyz. They did however notice a wheel bearing was cracked, gave me an estimate, and let me on my merry way. Went back a few days later for a new battery… same experience… reasonable prices backed by great service. I’ll be back and I would recommend it to anyone.

I have been there with both of my cars for several repairs, and they are super honest. Prices seem average, but if there is an easy fix or if something can be driven on and fixed later, they’ll tell you that, so is a great value and piece of mine to boot.
I picked Tim and crew based on the glowing reviews, and they are not overstating the positive at all. Love Turbo Tim’s!

After getting an estimate of $ 1300 worth of work from a national shop, I took my car to Tim’s based on a friend’s recommendation. Here’s why I give them 5 stars:
1) Customer service. First and foremost, these are folks who will listen to you. They won’t talk to you with condescending or intimidating tones. They make you feel like a buddy and will even text you when your car is ready!
2) Knowledge. The national place told me I needed new front and back struts, no explanation. Tim and his crew found it was actually a different issue and took the time to explain it to me. So glad I didn’t shell out $ 1300 at the other place!
3) Quality work done at a reasonable pace. This wasn’t a rush job, but it was also nice to get my car back same day. And now my car no longer sounds like a hunk of junk jalopy!
4) Fair prices. How often do you hear that about an auto repair shop?!
I’m moving out of state next week, but if I were still in town, I’d ALWAYS go to Turbo Tim’s. Look at how many good reviews they have… clearly they’re doing something right! I highly recommend them.

Turbo Tim is my go-​to mechanic since before he was at this location. He’s a straight up knowledgeable guy and hires mechanics who know what they’re doing. I’ve brought everything from transmission work to brake work here. He gets it done for a reasonable price.
A lap-​sit from the very friendly shop cat (Bobby) is a bonus!

Think of this as a 4.5.
I look pretty young and some people try to scam me. Combine that with my complete lack of automobile knowledge, I am super wary of auto shops.
So when my car developed a rattling noise and needed an oil change, I asked a Minneapolis native about good car shops. He recommended Turbo Tim.
The experience started out a bit tough — the shop itself is really hard to find (don’t listen to Google’s voice directions — just look at the map) and the layout is a bit confusing.
But Tim is, seemingly, a pretty honest guy. They discovered a problem that originally would cost me $ 200 bucks or so. I looked it up, and it seemed like a pretty reasonable charge, and said all right. But halfway through, they realized it was a much simpler problem, and changed the charge to only $ 60, which in the end, also included the oil change. I was pretty happy. And Tim was patient in explaining all of the repairs and why they did certain things. They also fixed the rattling noise for no charge (a pretty simple fix to begin with, admittedly).
The waiting area is also quite fun — they got a video game system, computer, and old school Disney VHS tapes. They also have a very friendly cat.
Regardless, I had a good experience and will be back if I need more auto work.

Just another crooked mechanic!
I love supporting local small businesses. I was excited to find a mechanic in my neighborhood with spotless reviews that i felt i could trust. I brought my recently purchased used car into their shop for an oil change and asked them to check the brake pads for me so I knew where the pad level was at.
Oil change cost was $ 35. Shortly after I dropped my car off I got a call from the shop telling me the front brake pads were «under 15% which puts them in the change immediately range» The shop was pushing me to get the $ 260 brake job done right away since the pads were so low.
I know how easy changing brakes is so I brought my car to a relative who is an army mechanic to get the job done. He took apart the brakes to replace the pads and showed me all 4 brake pads were at 50−75% and there is absolutely no reason to replace the pads and added that whoever said these needed to be replaced immediately is a crook.
Also, this is not your typical shop. They dont have a store front, front door, signs… really it’s a back-​alley garage connected to someone’s (Tim’s?) house. I passed the location 3 times before I called them to ask how to get in. They opened the garage door connected to the alley. It was very awkward wondering through the middle of their work area searching for someone to speak to. My girlfriend couldnt believe I even went in.
Get a second opinion before completing any suggested repairs!
