Uptown Plumbing, Heating & Cooling

Uptown Plumbing and Heating is shockingly inept. They shut my heat off then flooded a portion of my basement after I called to get my water heater checked out. The call was not even initially about my boiler, yet they took it upon themselves to shut the boiler down because it was a leaking co. I have a co detector in the boiler room along with most other rooms of the house. The boiler was looked at by a city inspector a month previously for another home project. Now my pregnant wife is in a home without heat and my basement is wet and they want $ 3,000 to fix everything. Extortion.

Beware! Heavy up sell on things that are not broken.
Second opinions may be a good idea. I had a second plumber take a look at what looked like a GIANT bill from uptown plumbing. (not just a few grand) The new guys showed me everything was in good repair.
I will avoid Uptown Plumbing from here on out.

Ian W. was our Uptown man today! He came to address problems with our boiler but he also volunteered to run a maintenance check on our water heater (free with our Happy Home Club membership) while he was putting the boiler through its paces. He took time to 1) problem-​solve, 2) clearly explain our situation and his repairs and 3) suggest a variety of options for future improvements. Once again, absolutely exceptional customer service from an Uptown service person. I don’t see how anyone can beat the Uptown team’s expertise and rapport. Thanks, Ian! Thanks, Uptown!

Fantastic and efficient service… David helped us with our heating system and Jason with our water heater and both were clear communicators, patient, and extremely helpful.
I really appreciate how fast and responsive the entire team at Uptown is and will continue to use them as needed. I’m sure less expensive options exist but so far my experience with Uptown has absolutely been worth it — you get what you pay for!

I had someone come out to look at my furnace. They told me I needed a $ 550 part. I have a warranty through another company, so I called to see if they could come out. They looked at it, cleaned it, charged me $ 50 and were on their way. When I called Uptown to let them know what happened, they could not have cared less. I have used them for years. Disappointing.

Called these folks based on a coupon for a combo boiler and water heater tune up deal for $ 69. Sean was the service technician that came to my home. He was a real down to earth guy that was taught me everything about my system. He didn’t try to complicate the matter by using a condescending tone to his voice before waving a quote for $ 1800 in repairs in my face (which is what another competitor loves to do) and he made sure I understood what was needed for the long term health of my system. Because of Sean’s professionalism, I booked the appointment for the recommended repairs and I didn’t feel like I was getting scammed.
The phone team that communicated the service tech’s arrival was fantastic and I’ve had nothing but a stellar experience. I’m quite pleased. Definitely recommend asking for Sean. Super ethical guy!

While I was out of town with family, the woman who was keeping an eye on our house noticed that our boiler (installed last winter) was making an incredibly loud, whining noise. Uptown, who had installed the system originally, was extremely helpful. Steph, the Customer Service Rep, contacted the technicians and was able to schedule Kyle to come out right away, which was great. He diagnosed and replaced a failed pump and got the system back up and running the same afternoon — always an important thing when you live in Minnesota and a non-​working boiler and cold house can mean burst pipes. We did purchase one of their maintenance plans, but still, I’ve been on plans with other places that are not as responsive as Uptown. They are a little on the pricey side, but they do great work and are very reliable.

Had a service call this week; Al was the guy. Since the installation of our new Triangle Tube wall-​hung boiler/​water heater and zone system, Uptown’s service, friendliness and professionalism have been remarkable and Al has continued the trend.

Both Steph in customer service (phone calls) and Jon K, the HVAC Tech were awesome! They both made me feel valued as a customer and not like the idiot I was feeling for not being able to take care of this challenge by myself. I had to call a couple of times to Steph to cancel and then re-​schedule and she was wonderfully supportive both times. She tried to help me however she could. Jon covered his shoes w/​covers before entering our house, which was much appreciated and then proceeded to take care of us in a most comprehensive and knowledgeable fashion. When all was said and done the furnace was working and we the lovely new smart thermostat was fixed securely to our wall. Uptown is my go-​to team for any plumbing, heating, or cooling needs, that’s for sure!

I contacted Uptown to have my gas line for stove moved/​replaced and tested. Master plumber Mike S. was dispatched within 24 hours. Mike expertly surveyed the work to be done, explained the options, and completed the installation within two hours. Two safety shut-​off valves were installed and everything fully tested, of course. After completion, Mike explained the installation so I could inspect the work. I am confident that the job was done to the highest safety standards and feel assured that I made the right call choosing Uptown. I will be using them for any of my plumbing, heating, and cooling needs going forward. Recommended!

This was my first time using Uptown and boy were my expectations exceeded! Tj was on time (early!) and very efficient in completing the tune-​up of both my furnace and water heater. He walked me through the inspection report and then helped me understand what/​if anything was needed to be completed. I joined their $ 10 Happy Home club which is a great service to include your annual tune-​up of everything — Furnace, A/​C and Water Heater.

I called Uptown Plumbing, Heating & Cooling at 7:20 because our heat wasn’t working and by 8:45 I had someone at my house. Dave was very polite and kind. He quickly determined the problem, gave me some great options and did exactly what I asked. I really appreciated that the company called me when the technician was on their way, I work just a few minutes from home so I was able to work right up until they were on their way. I also like that they sent me an email with the picture of the technician I would be getting. As a woman, it can be scary having someone come into your house and I appreciated knowing what he looked like so I knew he was safe and trustworthy.
I’m happy with my service and I will call them again in the future.

We just moved into a new to us house a few months ago. I have owned a couple houses over the past 14 years that had forced air and the hot water system in our new house was a little foreign to me. I had Uptown come out earlier in the fall to do a furnace maintenance check. I’m not sure how much can be known by just looking at the surface of the components, but it made me feel better having a professional check things out. He also convinced me to sign up for a $ 10/​mo plan to have them come out 3x per year and save service call fees.
Well, today that came in handy. The recirculation pump on our boiler gave up the good fight at 1:30 am. Uptown pleasantly answered the call and had someone get back to us right away in the morning. Andy arrived just as scheduled, confirmed the prognosis, and had everything repaired quickly.
I’m sure Uptown isn’t the only company in town that can do what I described above. Also, I’m not sure if their pricing is the best (I’m sure if you have «friends» you can always get a better deal), but Andy (today) and Nate (earlier this fall) both were extremely friendly and spent the extra time to walk me through my system and answer any question I could come up with and Andy explained my options to me but did not try to up-​sell me a bill of goods I did not need. I know you do not find customer service like this at every business and I really appreciate dealing with people that enjoy their job.

My 35 year old boiler needed replacing. Uptown plumbing replaced it the next day. They cleaned the work area and explained everything to me (such as where the water intake valves were to add water to the system.) A very nice experience all in all.

Josh H. and Joe did a great job installing our new system. Very friendly, knowledgeable and honest. Rob did a good job informing us of our options on the sales and engineering side. And T.J. did a thorough tune-​up and inspection before breaking the news to us gently that a new furnace was needed. A level of trust was quickly established with Uptown that I don’t often encounter. They do great things for our community here in Minneapolis in addition to their quality service.

Received a coupon in the mail for a furnace tune up and decided to give these guys a try. The tech that came out was very professional and polite. After he had completed the tune up I was told that we needed to immediate replace 2 parts for around $ 1100 or our furnace was going to stop working. Of course they also required full payment up front.
I had another company come in later that night and the tech found nothing wrong with these parts. The second tech also told me that the price Uptown was going to charge was skyrocket high.
As previous people have posted SHOP AROUND before agreeing to have any work done. Always get a second opinion. The second company that came out said they see this all the time when companies offer specials for furnace tune ups under $ 100. I’m giving 2 stars because everyone I spoke with at Uptown was very nice, but I can really do without the hard upsale

I was extremely happy with the service I got from Uptown! I just moved into a new house and Jon the technician walked me through everything I needed to know about my furnace and humidifier. My furnace is 21 years old so he checked everything and made sure it was operating correctly and then he answered my questions about what to look for when shopping for a new furnace in the future. We covered the benefits of H.E. compared to standard and the costs I will be looking at. I had a cold air vent that wasn’t hooked up properly and Jon took the time to reconnect it for me. The whole process went smooth and I feel much better informed about my current furnace and what I will need down the road.

Rob was the first person to enter my realm of criticism.
Rob was courteous and professional. He inspected the job site and noted the exact desires of the job undertaking. He provided me with literature which explained the exact nature of each project choice. I chose a project option «Premium Comfort Option» and he answered my pointed questions to my satisfaction.
From here Molly entered the realm of my criticism.
Molly was pleasant and professional. I did not have much need for her services in this particular project HOWEVER I could tell, had she been included to a greater extent on this project, she is an excellent «behind the scenes» supporting character. So even though I didn’t need her directly, I’m certain she played an important role with this project.
Finally the duo Justin & Mikan entered the realm of my criticism. There was also an Electrician and I hate myself for not getting his name.
Note: The Electrician did a fantastic job! He listened to my needs and wired neatly. He was also very courteous and professional.
Products for a brand new furnace were delivered on time.
Justin and Mikan arrived shortly after the products arrived. They were courteous and professional the whole time in my domicile. The removed the old furnace. Work was clean. They relocated the machinery to my specified location and tied the new system into the existing duct-​work.
The plumbing was done in copper and to my expectation. Normally I have Nate from «Benjamin Franklin Plumbing» do such work. He is excellent at what he does. I will still retain Nate for my plumbing needs and at the same time I am very pleased with the work done by Justin and Mikan.
I was pleased with the attention to detail given by Justin and Mikan. I surveyed the job as they worked. From sealing seams to fitting ducts to running drains and installing gas lines… they did an excellent job!
I would recommend Uptown Plumbing, Heating and Cooling to anyone who needs furnace/​AC work.
If you read my other reviews you will find I’m very hard to please. So know, if this company can satisfy me… you may very well find yourself satisfied as well. I pay people for courteous and professional service… not friendly. there is a difference. I am very satisfied with this experience.

ADVICE TO ALL: Shop around after you get your repair estimate from Uptown. AND make sure you have them explain all of the «plans» they offer to fix your problem. Chances are that the cheapest is just fine. And then after that, if you are not desperate, get someone else in to get another estimate.
BOTTOM LINE: The customer service on the phone was good and efficient. The fellow that showed up fixed our AC compressor a month earlier and seemed good (although he tried to sell us a tiered plan that put us in the range of over $ 2000 to dismantle our AC clean it and service it) We ended up simply replacing the compressor upon prodding about what we REALLY needed and that worked just fine for $ 300ish bucks. But I digress.
VISIT 2: So our same guy shut our two boilers down and we awaited estimates. To say we were shocked at his numbers is an understatement. We were looking at almost $ 20,000 for 2 new boilers which we were not prepared to do even with their payment plan. A second opinion got us something a little bit better. But that brings us to our 3^rd estimate and fantastic service call. We went with a mom and pop operation called Aztec. John was amazing. He showed up, looked at what we had, sent a team to do the same and gave us an estimate of $ 9600 to replace BOTH boilers complete with installation. Boilers replaced in a day, hauled off, no extra charges. He replaced 2 them with a hi efficiency units that carry a lifetime warranty and I read great reviews about them.
Bottom line, Uptown Plumbing is fine, friendly, efficient, timely. But ultimately they want to upsell you and overcharge you for the job. They are way too expensive.
