W Minneapolis – The Foshay

Horrible customer service, they damaged my vehicle when I had it overnight valet and no compensation, no call back, no apology, NOTHING! I will not recommend this hotel to anyone. And DO NOT valet your vehicle with them!

Good downtown location. Rooms are always nice and clean. David the manager was very accommodating during my last stay. Would definitely recommend.

Located in the heart of Downtown Minneapolis, this hotel is like out of a scene of Alias! Contemporary, modern and ultra chic!
I was only here overnight, but service all around is EXCELLENT! At check in there’s a table with apples and fruit/​herb infused water and newspapers. It’s very welcoming and almost looks like a nightclub.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE their keyless system. It’s still a key card but you just touch the keypad with it and you’re in. No more swiping the cards in and out of the slot seeing the red light go off lol
For security purposes, you need your card to get up the elevator to your rooms.
They have Manny’s Steakhouse and Prohibition bar on property (see my reviews). They also have a free observation deck for guests to go up and see the city. Very nice. Got some nice pics which I’ll post.
The rooms are SUPER NICE! I loved my 20^th floor room. There are only 8 rooms on that floor and it’s very quiet. I was originally placed elsewhere and forgot to request a quiet room, so at check in, they bumped me up here! Very happy with room location.
The walls are purple and gray, very cool.
Ultra comfortable beds and nice amenities. They have bathrobes for your use and wake up call service, as well as 2 free bottles of Dasani water.
TIP: Use their turndown service. They’ll bring you a complimentary bottle of Smart Water (big one) and milk & dark chocolates.
This is actually one of the nicer hotels I’ve stayed at for business and was very impressed. I docked off .5 star because for turndown the maid service merely took away the dirty towels, didn’t replenish and didn’t give me the amenities I asked for (an extra toiletries). Had I been staying more than one night, I would’ve called front desk for them to bring up.
Other than that, pretty much a perfect stay. I would definitely stay here again.
TIP: sign up for their SPG frequent stay program. They have sister properties (ex: Westin) to help you get to free travel sooner.

The W is a good place to party. The DJ was awesome and kept playing hit tracks one after another. By midnight it becomes pretty crowded. The have an extensive bar and the cocktails are pretty good. A must to hangout when you are in Minneapolis.

Stayed at The Foshay for work. Very trendy hotel. The rooms are great! Very roomy, clean and stylish. The shower is pretty awesome too.
I will note that I had to work from the hotel in the morning. To my surprise, the wifi stopped working at around 10am and actually didn’t work the rest of the night. Also, the phones weren’t allowing me to call down to the front desk. When I checked out, I was informed that internet and phones were down because they were upgrading the system. Why wasn’t I informed when I checked in?
Gym: A bit small but very clean.
Bar: Nice bar with ample seating.
Location: Very centrally located. Short walk to a lot of great eats.
Overall: Enjoyed my stay one night stay here and would come back. Rooms are priced on the high side though… but for the price, you get a very nice, enjoyable room.

The expectations for this stay were high. Maybe the bar was too high. We checked in and were on the 7^th floor. On Saturday night the music was so loud In the room from the lounge on the first floor we felt the beat in the pillows. We got dressed and went down to investigate at 1:45am. Brought it to the front desk and they didn’t believe us. At 2am the music stopped which also coincidentally is when the bar closes. Hmmmmm.
This hotel needs more light. It is a problem when you can barely figure out which buttons in the elevator are which. Hope you have a flashlight app on your phone. The light in the rooms was dull at best!!! We will book early at the Hilton next time!
On a good note the building has some great history!!!

Room 1903 has a good view and the room setup is good. Nice large shower!

This place has a wow factor when you first step in! The interior décor and lighting makes this place look very trendy. At night, especially on weekends, there’s a nice bar scene and a club vibe. The check in process was pretty speedy, and the room was ready right away. The reason I think this hotel is worth 4 stars instead of 5 was because the beds were stiff. I have neck problems, so I generally like the pillows to be a little softer. Unfortunately, when I woke up my neck was tight and aggravated. I stayed at some hotels that offer a pillow menu and that option really takes the experience to another level. Also, for some reason the sink was clogged and the water wouldn’t go down. Other than those two things, I had a really nice stay!

Review summary for those short on time: The W was a wonderful choice for our wedding!
After reviewing and visiting countless venues for our wedding, my wife and I selected the W. We couldn’t be happier with our decision. The experience of working with Jodi and the entire team at the W was outstanding!
Jodi went above and beyond the call of duty from day one to make sure that we understood all of our options and felt comfortable with the process. Through multiple in-​person tours of the facility and many e-​mails, Jodi tackled any and all questions with friendliness and speed. We always felt that we had an outstanding single point of contact with Jodi who has looking after us and our event.
The facility and food at the W are beyond compare. There isn’t better food anywhere. Period. The W doesn’t include any hidden fees or room rental costs like most other places do which was a great feature for us. All told we feel we received an excellent value for a premium experience for our guests!

this place!!! Best hotel to date. A little $$ but no horrible and they really make you feel «special «. The bar and bartenders especially are great and everyone we encountered was extra nice! Would recommend to anyone visiting downtown minne !

We stayed here at the end of December 2014 and had an absolute blast! We’re local residents of the Twin Cities and spend a lot of time traveling. But, this time we had some friends in town and wanted to have a night downtown.
The hotel met all of our needs. The room was stunning! It was an exceptional upgrade with an outstanding view. Staying a floor below Prohibition, one of our favorite cocktail bars in downtown, was a real treat for our group.
The location is perfect. All of the necessities are within walking distance. There is even a liquor store just across the corner. Also, it is just a quick walk to the Hennepin theatres and Cowles center for shows.
Thanks for a great stay. We will be back very soon, even have a stay booked for this weekend!

Service: Pretty awesome. Room service was delicious and reasonably priced. All staff were friendly and helpful. However, the Anything/​Anytime claim is pretty flawed.
Room: Comfortable bed, but awful setup (behind some sort of wall next to floodlights. Had to keep blackout blinds closed for all FOUR days. Had no view whatsoever. Bathroom was comfortable but the sinks are really shallow (and splatter) and there was some weird drippy painting style that made the walls look gross. I kept wondering if someone had soiled the walls. The supplied bath gel and soaps smell absolutely wonderful.
Atmosphere: Gets crazy over the weekends, but not necessarily in a good way for some. I enjoyed the people watching, but will be extremely unpleasant for others.
In all, a good property that somehow ended up not being an enjoyable stay because of the room location.

W Minneapolis is in what is a historic tower called «The Foshay.»
If I had to sum up this hotel in a few words it would be «mid-​upscale swank, but swank from 2005.»
Everything is dark, purple, designed, and «futuristic.» But it’s not brand new, so things are starting to look a bit dated. The biggest example of this is the purple (pink) cylindrical wet bar in the room. It’s a giant retro-​future plastic thing that is just screaming two thousand-​and-​late (sorry Fergie). There are products everywhere that is on sale in your room. A tall bottle of smart water right next to your bed will run you $ 8. The fridge is packed with items so you can’t even put your own things in there. Sticking with the dated theme, there is an i-​phone dock next to your bed but the jack is for i-​phone 4 and under. Last thing: the metallic long cushion thing on the bed. What is that all about? Everyone knows that thing is going on the floor and it looks so dirty from all the scuffs it has picked up over the years. Seriously, who thought that was a good idea?
There are some good points though. The views are great if you ask for an upper floor room. The products they have for the bathroom which are essential to some girls, are also pretty good — Bliss soap, shampoo and conditioner, and even a face wash with micro beads. They’ve got bathrobes you can lounge around in and a pretty decent hair dryer. The shower is one of those rain-​shower heads where water falls straight from the top.
OK, one more gripe before ending this review — the toilet paper and tissues they carry are like sandpaper. By the end of my stay, I was scared to go poop.
There is a bar on the bottom floor and the 27^th floor. Drinks are expensive so beware. An Oban ran me $ 25 from the first floor bar.
Overall it was a good stay but I felt like I craved a more normal hotel from here on out. My eyes were so tired from the Virgin America lighting throughout.

The service at this hotel is phenomenal. Every staff member was courteous and genuinely kind.
The room, however, was less than desirable. While the room was clean, it was TINY. We brought our infant son with us and once we set up his pack n’ play, we could barely move in the room. We booked the «cool corner room» which was a bit larger than the regular base rooms, so I assumed (wrongly) that we would be able to walk around. A could years ago we had our wedding reception at Windows on Minnesota and stayed at the Marquette across the street, and those rooms, by comparison are HUGE.
The other disappointment was the bed. If paying $ 200 per night for a hotel room, I would expect the bed to be very comfortable. It was not. It was very hard (not a pillow top or foam mattress like similar hotels have), and the pillows were extremely flat. I even called down to ask for different pillows; specifically foam pillows. They did arrive promptly but were the same flat pillows we already had in our room. Also, the comforter was entirely too small for the duvet (I was freezing), and had holes in it.
In addition, this hotel really seems to «nickel and dime» their customers. Access to the in-​room refrigerator even costs money! The shower was great, and the bathroom was ok in size, but parking was expensive and there were items for sale all throughout the room. It seemed tacky.
While this hotel has a very «hip» vibe, and the service is great, but it was not comfortable to stay there. The room was very small, the bed uncomfortable, and the bed linens needed replacing.

Great week long visit to Minneapolis staying at the W.
The staff was very friendly and was able to accommodate all of my requests that I made when I booked using the Starwood website (early check in, room location, and late check out).
I stayed in a Spectacular Room which had an awesome view of the skyline. Room was nice, clean, and comfortable. I also used the in room dining a couple times, delivery was prompt — and the food was good.
Starwood Preferred Guests can receive complementary wifi when they book through a Starwood website and also daily bottled Dasani water in the room. Coffee and wifi is also available elsewhere in the hotel for free or I believe you can request a Coffeemaker (I think a Keurig) for your room for free.
This bars at the hotel seem to be a popular local spot — so the noise level in the lobby on weekend nights can be «energetic» also the bar on the 27^th floor shares the elevators with the hotel. The floors with the guest rooms though are limited by keycard.
The building also features an observation deck and museum which hotel guests can access for free.
Overall an enjoyable stay and definitely would come back again.

Loved the experience. Had an amazing room. The décor was my favorite part and all the details were on point. The 27^th floor bar, Prohibition is worth the elevator trip to take in the view. Go during Happy hour and order the cucumber collins.

My fiancé surprised me by proposing while we were lazing about on his parents’ boat. He then surprised me further by saying he had gotten a suite at the W for us that evening.
We arrived and at first they said our room wasn’t ready (even though it was well past check in time), but that was quickly remedied. I think the woman working the front desk was in training because she had some issues with the person in front of us too.
We got up to our room and it was perfect. A nice «living» room space with comfy couches, the bed was a little firm but very easy to fall asleep on, and the bathroom had a deep tub and perfect shower.
The room was a great getaway from the basement of my fiancé’s parents’ house. I enjoyed our stay very much.
