Yelpocalypse Now Elite Party

One of my favorite events to dress up for so far! I learned how to do zombie make up on my husband and it will be a skill I will cherish forever!
I will say though that I was very disappointed with the amount of Elites that did not come in costume at all. I thought for sure a lot of people would get in on the action! I did not really care for any of the snack food, I was hoping to actually sample things they serve on the menu, which will determine if I come back.
Okay, enough with my nagging, I still had a lot of fun, I loved the atmosphere and who can beat having Zombieland playing in the background! I also grabbed a seat by the make-​up table and it was fun watching people get their «zombie» on. The bartenders were awesome, even though I could only drink water.
Great get together and I will never forget it!

Wow, what an interesting Unilocal event:
Great dessert cupcakes — so fluffy and not super dense, just the way I like them, and sweet! My favorite was the chocolate with the smooth (whip cream?) filling on the inside and light chocolate crusted top, yum! I’m normally not a fan of cupcakes but I would love to try these again.
Foxy Fosses — Finlandia vodka and basil, definitely a different twist on the cocktail! A little on the strong side but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
Atmosphere and staff — this was my first time at Hell’s Kitchen and I see why everyone I know loves it. The décor was spot on and the staff was friendly and accommodating, extra kudos to the bartenders who were working overtime mixing up some great drinks. The Unilocal crowd was a little more subdued for this evening, maybe because there was table seating and it was a Monday night. Personally it was a treat sitting right next to the makeup artist’s table and getting to see Unilocalers get their zombie faces on for the night. Thanks for Emmerlee Photography for some awesome photos of the night and Dustin G., they all turned out amazing!
And a big THANKS to Annie for the kickoff to the year and fun board game, unfortunately I didn’t get to finish it.

It was great to finally get to try Hell’s Kitchen. It was very nice to have our own separate space for the event! The bartenders and foxy fosse were awesome! They were doing a great job keeping up with us Unilocalers!
I also really appreciated how frequently the other staff members were refilling the food buffet!
The food was awesome! It was my first time trying lengua, and I am a fan! I was very impressed with the selection of desserts! My friend and I aimed to try one of everything. Our hands down favorite bite of the night belongs to the lemon meringue cupcake. AMAZING! One of the best desserts I have ever had. Honestly, I think there were fireworks in my mouth.
Can’t wait to go back to try the breakfast I’ve been hearing so much about, and if nothing else, more cupcakes!

What a fun, zombie time, had by all! Now on to a few highlights.
1) Foxy Fosses. How had I not had these delicious basil-​infused vodka drinks before? Alex H. said it well, Perfection.
2) The bartenders were rad. Mixing up every drink by hand, and showing off their skills too. This lady was impressed.
3) Who knew Hell’s Kitchen served awesome deserts? I tried all of the cupcakes; my fave was definitely the one garnished with pumpkin seeds. I was also a huge fan of their hummus & various dips.
4) Watching Unilocalers get zombie-​fied by the make-​up artist was hysterical (& a bit scary!)

Absolutely appreciated all the creative small foods, and a very nice variety of entertaining drinks. And can’t go wrong with designer cupcakes. The zombie face painting was phenomenal, but too cowardly to try it.
I agree with others about how sedate the crowd was, maybe the dark lighting, recessed spaces, and movie. Can’t say I tried to mingle, but there’s got to be a non-​intrusive way to get people out of their own 2 and foursomes. I’ve liked the elite events where you have to stand around cocktail tables in a big open area, makes people interact more. But overall I find elites extremely well behaved and pleasant.

Who said that the Zombie Apocalypse was going to be a bad thing again? Because I don’t think they would feel the same way if they were at the Elite party last night!
First I will start out with a big thank you to Annie D and Liz for setting up another smashing event! And a huge thank you to Hell’s Kitchen for providing some seriously awesome cocktails and some of the best food I’ve had at an Elite event!!!
I was sad to have to leave early because it was a very fun evening with a table to get zombie-​fied, a huge buffet with delicious food, a HUGE screen with Zombieland projected onto it, and the best group of Unilocalers I’ve been around! I finally got to meet a few that I have been reading up on and that made it totally worth it!
The scavenger hunt was really fun too! It got me running around the place, checking all the walls, the motto’s, even the event invitation for answers!
My one and only complaint about this place is something that I’ve had issues with everytime I go. My cellphone doesn’t work in the restaurant very well… but that’s not really under the control of the business nor Unilocal,haha.
I can’t wait for the next event! This one was so much fun!

I can’t remember the last time I had a drink THAT good. Basil-​infused vodka + ginger lemonade + a leaf of basil to garnish? Perfection.
This was one of the first Unilocal events where I didn’t really move around a lot except for drink refills and more hummus and veggies. I was so content catching up with friends and watching Zombieland on the big screen (how appropriate) that I didn’t want to leave… ever. Apocalypse NOW!
Thanks Annie, Liz & everyone at Hell’s Kitchen for a great start to the 2012 Elite events! I had so much fun (per usual).

The Unilocalocalypse was a fun event — thanks Ms. D, Hell’s Kitchen and the patron saint that is Jack Daniels.
The Manhattan Project drinks were tops in my book (especially the pumpkin). Admittedly, and as I am wont to do, I spent more time at the bar than the snack table, but the noshables were good finger food and overall Hell’s Kitchen put out an enjoyable spread.
The atmosphere was somewhat subdued, which I actually enjoyed, as my prior day’s activities had somewhat curbed my desire for brains, fighting terminators, or whatever the hell the Mayans said would happen in 2012.

The staff at hell’s kitchen was great. They offered us huevos ranchero, tacos de lengua and a couple of good dips. The hummus was particularly good. Also there were a good number of cupcakes and sweets.
I never thought about Hell’s kitchen as a dessert spot, but I might revise that belief. The cupcakes were delicious. I tried 4 different ones and all were great. My favorite was the lemon one with the meringue on top. Deliscious.
And I finally got to watch Zombieland from beginning to end.

So, I’m confused… I thought the world was going to come to an end last May, and then it was October, and now sometime in 2012? Well, Nostradamus, I’ve got news for you and the Mayans: we don’t plan on going anywhere anytime soon, except maybe Hell… Hell’s Kitchen that is! And come on ladies & gents, you know we all committed at least one of HK’s 7 sins last night (let’s hope none of us were guilty of #6)!
Thank goodness for the warm January temps last night – I couldn’t wear a coat on the walk over, as I had to let my fake blood coagulate before entering HK (since Annie D. had explicit rules that there be no blood on the uphostery). I must say, I was a little disappointed with the lack of zombies who showed up (I felt so lonely until some fellow Unilocalers got their makeovers – and damn were they good!?)…but seriously, I slit my throat for this shindig!
The food was great (although a bit difficult to eat with a severed head) – My favorites were the huevos rancheros, the hummus & of course the grand variety of cupcakes! At one point, I think collectively everyone at our table had tried almost one of each flavor. From what I sampled, I think my favorite was the Butterfinger one!
I spent so much time socializing that I didn’t even finish most of the drinks I ordered (that’s what the BF is for) – but I was a big fan of the Foxy Fosse (with Ginger-​infused Finlandia vodka & basil lemonade). And while I’m on the subject of socializing… I have to give a big shout out to all the new Elites of 2012: DON’T BE SHY! I met one of my best friends at a Unilocal event last Winter – and all because she went out of her way to say, «Hello.» So seriously, introduce yourselves! And thank you to those who have done so :) This really is a fab bunch!

Very fun event and on a Monday night no less. Great kick off event for the new year!
Entire staff at HK was on their game. Replenishing food, clearing plates, bartending, you name it. They really did a nice job with the event and were personable, friendly and appreciative.
The apple martini that I sampled was quite tasty, but made me really thirsty.
I tried a few of the food items, but wasn’t that hungry. J really liked all of the stuff he tried and the cupcakes were as cute as can be.
Had a fabulous time catching up with friends; Mahesh K, Jesse and Brad S and meeting a few new Unilocalers. Special thanks to the ever gracious Annie D who along with her staff put on another wonderful event.

I hope to attend many more events through out the year. However next time, I might have to carry a portable device with me to recognize people I’m Unilocal friends with. Everyone looks different in person. but I did recognize Ben D’s smile and wave!

Annie D., you are awesome. I don’t know about the Unilocal community managers in other cities but you are pretty darn good at what you do. This was the first Unilocal Elite Event of 2012 and it started with a bang.
I was a Hell’s Kitchen virgin until tonight. The place looks really unique in its décor and ambiance. The big screen is a nice touch. The bar is stacked well and the drink specials tonight were great. I tried the Foxy Fosse and the Apple Manhattan Project and really liked the latter. I also tried the pumpkin flavored one which was good. The food definitely looked super nice, although I only tried the crackers, hummus and the other dips. The zombie theme worked well as some Unilocalers got their make over done at the event.
I think it’s meeting fellow Unilocalers and beautiful Unilocalettes that makes these events a big hit. I got to spend some time chatting with my very first Unilocal friends, Amy R and her hubby Jason. Then spent some time with the über cool Kohleen L and Chimeren P and their significant others Mike and Chad. All in all, a great event and memorable time.
Special mention to intern Liz W. who does a fabulous job of handing out name tags and souvenirs, always with a beautiful smile.

Sadly no brains, but plenty of lengua! That’s ok, since I plan on surviving any apocalyptic events. Just need to stock my cupboards and buy a crossbow…
Hell’s Kitchen was the perfect setting with its gothy décor, but they also killed it with the food. Mini huevos rancheros, lengua on chips, and cupcakes? YES PLEASE. I like lengua and their perfectly cooked tongues will go on my soon-​to-​be Lengua List. Also, thank you for providing some fresh and healthy veggies to ameliorate those guilty feelings of just eating snacks. I will welcome carrots and hummus into my tummy anytime.
Cocktails were awesome as usual. Finlandia vodka infused with ginger, and mixed with a basil lemonade? Ok! I like mine very gingery but this was more accessible to the ginger-​phobic. The vodka was very smooth. The Jack Daniels’ Manhattan Projects were very good too. Tried the blackberry and the pumpkin spice; I liked the slight fruitiness of the blackberry and the pumpkin spice would be a great fall-​inspired Manhattan. Also, glad to have some Schell’s to ground me from drinking too many cocktails. Their «Welcome Unilocal Class of 2012» was so cute!

The Unilocalocalypse Now Elite Party was the perfect cure for the mondays. The space was fantastic! The room was plenty big to comfortably fit everyone, yet the drapery and booths made it still feel intimate. The staff was on top of things. Dirty dishes magically disappeared, and the buffet was quickly replenished.
I’ll never look at basil the same way again! Hell’s Kitchen’s Foxy Fosse is my new favorite cocktail. I had dreams about the ginger-​infused Finlandia vodka with homemade basil lemonade and it’s mesmerizing smell. Luckily, it’s on the happy hour menu for when I return.
I have never had room for dessert at Hell’s Kitchen and was thrilled by the variety they served up. I tried the peanut butter & banana cupcake and the ridiculously decadent brownie, which went smashingly well with Schell’s! I will definitely save room for dessert on my next visit.
I was impressed and tempted by the makeovers, but I feared being able to remove the makeup in time for work Tuesday morning. My laziness got the best of me.
