Now that we live in Mint Hill, one of the nice things that we have to enjoy is the park where they used to host Mint Hill Madness(it was actually held downtown this year). Now the park is just used for park-y type things, like the Mint Hill Highland games, where I guess they serve traditional Mint Hill food such as haggis. Actually I have no idea if they serve haggis — the one time I went years ago they didn’t, but now that the Madness has gone, you never know. The park itself is a nice one, good sized with a number of fields for all sorts of sports, and even just plenty of fields for hanging out on a nice summer day. Or a cold winter day if you happen to be at a park when it’s close to freezing. You won’t find much in the way of hills, so if snow is in the forecast, it’s probably not a good place for sledding. Maybe good for snowball fights. Meaning it doesn’t necessarily make sense for the highland games. Anyway. The other thing you might be interested to note is that the Park on Fairview was recently updated with a Korean war memorial. Eventually there will be statues, benches, pavers, landscaping and even a fountain. In fact, if you’re still shopping for that perfect present for the holidays and don’t want to brave the malls, you can contact the Mint Hill Historical Society and dedicate an engraved brick paver to someone. It is the gift that keeps on giving. Or just give them some haggis.
