La Mirada Animal Health Center

I am not one to give back reviews but I am so disgusted with this doctor. When I think of an animal doctor I think of compassion and he was the exact opposite. Didn’t want to get near my small dog, didn’t take the time to figure out what was going on. All he said was it could be _​_​_​or it possibily is _​_​_​. The he comes back with two shots. WHY WOULD YOU GIVE HER A SHOT IF YOU AREN’T SURE WHATS WRONG WITH HER? The visit was quick, he prescribed two medications and two shots. I refused both and left. All he wants is to make money.

Went here yesterday to bring my dog who was having pain. The staff were attentive and caring. I walked in and the service was pretty fast, around 15 to 20 min. The doctor examined my dog and gave her a shot. Most important of all my, dog’s pain was resolved and the price was really affordable. I’m glad I didn’t listen to the old reviews, maybe they encountered different staff from what I saw. These people seem to really care.

I brought my pet here for the first time. It is $ 25 for a check up/​physical exam. There is a coupon on their website for a free physical exam for first time visits. There are no appointments, only walk ins. There is a sign saying that the wait would be between 20 minuets to over 2 hours. There were only five people in front of me and I had to wait an hour and a half till I was seen.
As for the doctor that treated my pet, the best way to describe him is, meh. Average, you know? Wasn’t exactly friendly, but not really rude either if that makes sense. He got the job done, and that was all. Not good, but not bad either. I had to ask him to repeat himself a few times, his English is okay. And he didn’t really take the time to explain things either.
It wasn’t exactly a bad experience, but not what I’m looking for. Like I said, he got the job done. But he lacked in engagement and making me feel welcome, and in showing genuine compassion for what he does. Also, the wait time was just way too long, but I guess it might be worth it for the prices.

I’ve been taking my corgi Rufus here since he was a baby. It’s a wonderful clinic if you are on a budget, especially for things like shots and flea meds… he was neutered here as well (though we don’t talk about it when it’s time to come here), and the ladies were wonderful taking care of him, and they still remember him to this day even 5 years after! If you are having an issue with your animal and you may need some extensive clinical help or need a diagnosis, I would recommend going to a full service animal health center… but for on the go routine help, this place has been good to us. The only thing that makes me anxious is my dog is a grumpy old man now a days, and the waiting area is small – so I get really nervous about causing a scene or fight, but at least they always have chairs outside so we just wait outside and the staff comes and finds us.
NOTE: The line can get REALLY long, especially on the weekends. BUT there are periods (such as times during the weekdays) where it is almost empty. It’s pretty brutal if you have to come on the weekend so plan accordingly – coming early would mean coming a good 30 minutes+ before opening hours.
TINY NOTE (Post-​it size): There’s an office cat that roams around. For some reason Rufus also HATES cats, but I don’t know if it’s because their office cat has been around since he was a pup or what, but he isn’t phased by her at all. Strange. :)

My name is Vern Lindholm and I have been taking my dogs and cats to Dr. Johnny for about 8 years now, after a bad experience with an old bag at Gregg in La Habra (a customer, not staff, and a long story). My female ragdoll, who is normally a quiet cat anyway, was also very lethargic one morning, so I took her to LMAHC and first met Dr. Calimlim, who I later learned was also the Pound vet, which explained his odd hours. Most vets would have looked at her, given me some pills, and collected their money and sent us home. She would have died for sure. Instead, he did surgery that night and removed an enlarged and infected uterus, which he put into formaldehyde to proudly give me the next day. She has never been sick again, best $ 500 I ever spent ! My new wife and I know have 6 dogs and four cats (when we met, I had four dogs and four cats, the La Habra limit), and have not spent over $ 1,000/year in vet bills. Recently my black female cat, Morticia, had a bladder infection and got two shots and pills for home for $ 113, and by the next morning the bleeding had completely stopped. Great vet ! Also, my wife lost two of her older dogs, and I bought two new puppies at Russo’s in Irvine Spectrum. Their vet is in Irvine, and was formerly the vet for the wild animal park there and a great vet too. Their office wanted over $ 1,000 each for laproscopic neutering, and without saying a word to my wife I took them to Johnny for $ 135 each, and when I asked for pain meds the receptionist asked, «Why?» I insisted, and when I got them home the next day they were jumping all over as if nothing had happened.

I don’t know why I’ve never written a review for this place! The La Mirada Health clinic is amazing! We have been taking our dog, Jojo here since she was a puppy. All the health technicians are so kind and knowledgeable. I love that they know our dog by name and are always so helpful with anything that we need. Also, if you ever need to buy flea or tick meds, they have the best deals and it’ll last you a couple of months. I 100% recommend this animal health clinic and vet.

We have been taking our dog here for almost 7 years. Friendly and caring staff and doctors. Very reasonably priced. It’s the only local one I recommend to friends.

Wow! Took two dogs and I was in and out with a small Bill! Don’t expect fancy but cheap yes!

Love the staff! They are great they saved my dog from parvo. Frida came in daily for IV fluids and antibiotics. They are very reasonable when it comes to pricing they will even work with you on a payment plan if you can not afford it. They are truly awesome here.

Close to home. Caring people same staff for several years. Clean & fair prices. I wouldn’t think of going any where else.

First off let me say the girls at the desk are excellent
But, I’ve had the same bad experience twice at this vet. I took my dog in for vaccs. They were different dogs on each occasion. The Vet walked into the exam room, after I waited for 90 minutes just to get in there. He tells me to hold my dogs head. He makes a b line for my dog’s rear without ever even greeting my dog or letting my dog sniff him. Well of course my dog is going to freak out. So then the Vet backs away, while I’m trying to calm my dog, the vet just stands there with a disapproving look, like I was wasting his time.
I was unsure If I should write this review. I told several dog owners about my experience, and they were all as confused as I was. They told me their vets never did that.
I’ve been to this vet many times and this has only happened twice, but twice is too much. My theory is that because they are so busy, He’s in a hurry to treat you pet and move on to the next one.
Im considering paying more at another vet, if it means I don’t have to wait as long and my dog receives the Vets full and undivided attention.

Been coming here since 1989. We trust and love Dr. Calimlim and staff!!! They’re always very thoughtful and attentive to the 4 legged babbies. We have brought so many rescued pets that we’ve kept as part of the family here for check ups and procedures. Prices are great and Dr. Calimlim is always loving and great with the animals. Plus they have a friendly rescued clinic cat «Buddy» who roams the waiting room checking out the other animals that come in or sleeps on the counter after a hard day of watching.
Love…love this place and always recommend to other people.

I have been coming to this vet for years because I absolutely am over the moon with how great my dogs are taken care of. Not only my dogs, but the staff is really super great with me!

I’ve been coming here for about 7 years, been happy until recently. My last 2 visits I’ve had to wait over 90 mins. For vaccinations! Strongly considering another vet that respects my time & appreciates my business.

It was finally time to take my cat, Leonard, to the vet. For his procedure… My usual veterinarian was going to charge over a hundred dollars for the procedure, including some unnecessary «handling» charges. But the family who saved Leonard, where I got him, told me that La Mirada Animal Health Center was both professional and cheap. It was around $ 70 – 80 for the procedure, after all.
I had to drop Leonard off because the veterinarian performed the procedure at night. At first this worried me. But the nurse I spoke to was very reassuring. On my way to the hospital I was emotional, so I called my aunt for some support («will he still love me?!»). Leonard, unused to being in a crate, meowed, totally oblivious to his fate. I felt so guilty!
I dropped him off (cried a bit in the car), and picked him up early the next morning. The cat who lives at the shelter (he was abandoned or found and they took him in, he’s getting old) was very friendly and well-​groomed. He even sniffed Leonard. I was so happy to see my little cat, but he would not look at me. He turned his butt to me! I don’t know if that’s normal. But I’d probably do the same, if I were in his position.
The nurse gave me some information about aftercare; she was very helpful. I never met the doctor (he works at multiple animal hospitals), but Leonard’s recuperation process was swift. I recommend this center for it’s quick, professional, and no-​nonsense veterinarian care.
