History
Established in 1950.
Sunset Lodges was built by a Connecticut carpenter named Charlie Rosell between 1950 and 1970. Using lumber abandoned in Lake Winnipesaukee’s Basin Bay, he constructed six cabins – four seasonal and two year-round – in addition to his house (now the seventh cabin) and his daughter’s house (now the manager’s house).
The Rosell family owned Sunset Lodges until 2010 when Rick and Lorraine Sager – two longtime patrons – decided to purchase the resort when it was put up for sale. They have made great efforts to improve the resort while still retaining its distinctive 1950s-feel.
