H&R Block

What kind of «tax pros» have no clue what to do with a 1098-​T? Went in to file today and the guy had literally no clue what to do with my 1098. He even went to the IRS website to try and figure it out. He then asked me to go home and get my last years taxes to try and figure out how to file the 1098. Not sure I will return to file here for my third year.

I had two tax returns that I had to amend. They were very complicated for my income bracket because of (a very small amount) income from a business partnership, royalties, and my wife’s independent contracting job. My returns were incorrect in part because of my own mistakes and because of mistakes made by another tax preparer. Turbotax was useless.
I worked with Theresa on three occasions over a four week period. I found her to have all the traits one would want with a tax preparation service:
1. She was quick to reply and easy to contact. She always got back to my emails in a day and was often available to speak on the phone.
2. She was knowledgeable and experienced. For example, some accountants don’t have much experience on partnership filings (K1s, 1065s), but this was not out of her league. She handled a variety of other somewhat complicated forms, such as Schedule Cs and SEs.
3. Since I need to amend one return because of the mistakes made by an accountant at another H&R Block office, she didn’t charge me for this work. When it came to my mistakes, she corrected these at a very reasonable charge. For example, I was nearly ready to sent the IRS a check for about $ 250, as they requested. But we amended and I ended up paying the IRS and H&R Block much less combined.
4. She is friendly and non-​judgmental. Tax preparers get a very private view of an individual and family. They know what you make, much of what you spend, how much you save, what you do, if you’re charitable or not, etc. Accountants must be discrete and polite, and I found this to be true for Theresa.
Finally, the office is conveniently located near HW 5 and Alicia (although it is a bit hard to turn into the mall area coming from the south on Alicia). Parking is plentiful. Their staff are friendly.
Who wants to do taxes? This office will make a bitter pill easier to swallow.

I would not recommend this business. I found the staff to be unprofessional and rude. I asked that my daughter’s check be directed deposited and they mailed it instead, because they simply did not want to wait a day for her to come into the office. Then the preparer fabricated a story about why she did this, which my husband and i found to be strange, at best. The preparation was costly and I did not find our preparer to be very knowledgable. I was told that the returns were prepared incorrectly and would subject us to an audit. I would suggest you avoid this business at all cost! Go anywhere else!!!

This is H&R Block’s year around office for south Orange County, and they only hire the best of the best to stay on board for these off season issues that can at times be quite complicated (IRS letter, audit, business services, amendments). How could the person below say they are crooks and they don’t tell you how much it will cost? That’s just plain baloney. They always review your documents, tell you the price, and you are never under any obligation to complete the return with Block and there is never a consultation fee, it’s their protocol. A «simple» tax return would never cost $ 655, so either her taxes weren’t that simple after all or she’s exaggerating the price significantly. If you have a difficult tax situation or need year around service, this is the H&R Block to go to.

They don’t give you any estimate or idea of what their charges will be.
They have no FEE SCHEDULE of their Charges or Rates. You have no way to even see if they are comparable or competitive as they say with other local business’s.
I dealt with Kevin Kamm and spent 2 separate 1 hour appts for a simple tax return. I ended up with a ridiculous $ 655 bill which he discounted to $ 450. I have had my taxes done for the last 30 years by Professional CPA business’s. Never a problem or a fee over $ 250 for same type of filings. My past CPA’s are now deceased so I tried someone new at H$R BLOCKheads HUGE MISTAKE! THEY ARE RUDE AND COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL!!!
