The local sawmill and railroad tracks make the camping experience here unbearable. The noise pollution is really unbelievable. We arrived on a Saturday evening and it was peaceful through Sunday. But at 6am Monday morning the heavy equipment, sawing, rumbling and loud humming was drowning out conversation. Then at 8:30 the train rolled through and boy did they like laying on the horn. They must have been making a stop in Modoc because the horn was on and off until 9:30. We’re checking out early! Now the campground itself is gorgeous. There were plenty of awesome sites available on the lake. Bath houses are dated. The office /camp store is only open from 11 – 12 and the again from 4 – 5.

This place is beautiful! We came up the Saturday before thanksgiving. The trees’ leaves were changing colors and just beginning to fall. We had a site right on the lake, but I believe all the sites were lakeside. The craziest part of the trip was the fact that there were only 15 other sites being used. We have an RV but there was also primitive camping. Our dogs loved the great long walks we were able to take enjoying the wonderful weather as we strolled. There is a boat ramp, playground, and plenty of picnic areas. It is also very close to Augusta and plenty of grocery stores if you forget or need anything. It did rain one day so we went into Evans and saw a movie. We will be back in the summer to enjoy the lake!
