Had a holiday lunch with a friend at Emily’s — salmon pizza on flatbread and it was amazing. The host was a bit gruff at first but then the power went out during a bad rainstorm and he was very helpful to everyone. We were there in the dark by candlelight chatting for a half hour. When the power came back we got more great service and chatted with the host/​owner before leaving. We were intrigued by the architecture and he told us about all the history of Emily and the inn… she died when she was a little girl in the 1970’s but the owner named the place in honor of her. Interesting place!!!

An absolutely lovely dinner, excellent food and a wonderful setting. Interesting, unique menu made with high quality ingredients. They serve the basics too but there is nothing «basic» about them — everything is top notch.

I have stopped here on the way home from work and have never had a bad experience. Bar food is great (baked oysters) and very reasonably priced, along with service that never lets you go empty. Mandy, the bartender of the evening was pleasant and served with a smile.
Have yet to encounter Emily the ghost.

Ellyn and I have eaten here a couple dozen times. The food has always been excellent and the service has always been friendly. I recommend this restaurant.

the review would be higher (I thoroughly enjoy the old-​timey atmosphere, and I never had a problem with the food or drinks) but sommmeoonneeee in there is a doucher. only one. but it’s a big one.

As a first time customer we sat ourselves in the bar area we were promptly greeted by the staff and bartender. while waiting on another couple to join us we witnessed the owner yelling at the bartender for alowing us to set there even though we sat ourselves. was very rude and disrespectful

This time of year makes me happy, because I get to look for a nice fancy place to celebrate Valentines day with my wife. I get to review it, she gets to eat for free. It’s basically win-​win.
2015 marked my first trip to Emily’s. We had seen this establishment a few times when driving around, last during out trip to and from the year prior’s apple festival up the road. I called about two weeks prior and made reservations for the earliest time-​slot possible.
We were the first to arrive, nabbing a solid parking spot. Doors were locked, but the kind host let us in. While they prepared the tables we made our way to the bar so I could look over their beer selection.
If you’re into microbrews you will be disappointed. The beer list is long, but do not be fooled; it’s mostly domestics and imports that are as common as domestics. They had 90 minute IPA on tap from DogFishHead and the Sam Adams Winter Lager, but that’s about it. Naturally, I ordered both.
When we were seated, I looked over the menu and was pretty satisfied. I’m a meat eater and the wife’s a Pescetarian, so her options were a little more limited. We settled on the Blackened Grouper and Prime Rib, with a Crab Stuffed Mushroom as an appetizer.
Service was forgettable; meals were served after a moderate wait. I don’t feel the service was poor but it could have been better. Other tables, waited on by other waitresses, were served rolls and refills. Ours was rather liberal about her attention, and once the two rolls were gone; that was it.
The entrees were properly portioned and done to order. My prime rib was juicy and mash potatoes authentic and hearty. Unfortunately the ribs flavor was not robust, leaving me to pile potatoes onto it to add some flavor. I know it can be done better because the prime rib at Longwood Gardens was full of it.
Once dinner concluded we asked for a dessert menu. I looked it over but wasn’t too happy with the offerings. While we debated, another table received their desserts and made our choice for us. They were incredibly small, probably half the portion you’d expect. If dinner was any indication, the taste wouldn’t justify the price.
When the night was over, we thanked our waitress and host, then made our way home. The final tally for the night, without dessert, was $ 105.
I’d like to offer some final thoughts here, so my points are clear and concise. When I go to dinner at a place like this, which is to say an establishment with a clear reputation for excellence and a price point to match, my expectations are that much higher. If I were going to a local Red Robin, this meal and service would have been first-​rate. However, I went to a place with a tremendous price tag and time restriction. For me to pay what I paid, and be as… unsatisfied (not to be confused with unhappy), is a tragedy. Given the price per meal, those dinner rolls you offer should be plentiful. My basket should never empty. The meat itself, while juicy, wasn’t savory. Something is off in your kitchen. And the desserts wouldn’t bring a smile to my face; only the grimace of disappointment.
Emilys certainly has the history of a big-​named and well-​respected restaurant, but it is my opinion that the reviews here are based off of limited experience or narrow-​minded viewpoints. For someone who really enjoys good food and memorable experiences, I was again left wanting. Shame, too, because I enjoyed the atmosphere. Give my experience and account, I find it amusingly appropriate to rate this establishment 2 stars. My attentiveness to this review will be proportionate to what we received from our waitress.

Emily’s was our «Go To» New Year’s-End dinner celebration. Carl and his staff did a fantastic job making sure all seventeen of us had perfectly cooked meals. From the uniquely pine nut, cremini mushroom sauced sweet potato gnocchi appetizer to the creamy vanilla Crème Brule, everything was beautifully presented and deliciously flavorful. Among the raves were the polenta, herbed mashed potatoes, roasted duck, scallop risotto, and salmon. Generous portions left us all pleasantly satisfied. Only because we were celebrating a birthday party back at the Inn, did we regretfully pass on the delicious sounding desserts. We passed around a house made «Crème Brule» with everyone wanting more. This charming cozy restaurant is as inviting in the winter as it is in the summer.

Enjoyed dinner on the deck with entertainment. Dinners were good Like the fact that you get a salad with dinner. Would prefer a vegetable selection other than chefs choice. Service could have been better. Had to request bread and remind the waiter.

Our food and experience at Emily’s was great. Sorry for those who don’t like the place, sometimes reviews aren’t worth the room they take up.

The building was interesting so we stopped in for dinner on Friday night. The coconut shrimp tasted like it was frozen and my wine was warm so not off to a good start. While the servers were very pleasant, it was obvious the kitchen was having a hard time getting the food out so there was a very long wait for our entrée’s. When they finally arrived, the duck was greasy and the risotto was under cooked. The NY strip was served on the very rare side and was in desperate need of some salt. We will not be going back.

This is one of my favorite lunch time restaurants. The staff is always friendly and they have delicious food. I have been there several times with my aunt who lives in the area. She raves over their onion soup and I chose the Wild Mushroom Pasta with asparagus. The pasta was tasty, enough oil to give it that extra touch and not to oily. The asparagus was very tender and definitely a lite meal. If you like mushrooms, then you definitely must taste this dish. Highly recommend this be a lunch stop on Rt. 10.

We liked it here. We had dinner and it was very good. Filet Mignon was great! We also went for lunch another time and it was very good too!

Nice selection of wine by the glass. Typical american bistro with a nice bar and resuraunt enviroment. When the family comes to town this place always seems to come up as a nice place to go.

If I could give a restaurant a 0 star, I would for this place. I tried this place with my boyfriend and his friends since they all live around the area and thought this might be a nice place to grab lunch and catch up. Since the weather is so much colder than what I am used to, I asked my waitress for a cup of hot water (no tea or anything). When we ordered, I got the hot ham and Swiss with Cajun fries while my boyfriend got their special of the day sandwich which I believed was a rib sandwich with regular fries. When our food arrived, we shared our two plates; both of us quickly realized THE ONLY thing eatable was the regular fries and ham and Swiss sandwich. The Cajun fries were OVERLY seasoned and even writing that is the understatement of 2012. His rib sandwich was quite bland and lacking any flavor. When we got our bill, our waitress had charged me $ 2 for hot water because I had used their tea pot, and as a result, they now have to run it through the dishwasher. Mind you my fellow Unilocalers, I did not drink out of this tea pot; I barely even touched it! I find it ABSOLUTELY ridiculous that a restaurant could charge its customer any money at all for some HOT WATER. Of course it didn’t help that we had HORRIBLE service. Often times when I went to use their restroom, I could see our waitress standing around playing with her finger nails or talking to the only other waitress on staff. I along with several others at my table had to ask for water several times, and we finally gave up because she never came around… why waste our breath… and to you I ask, «why throw away your money here?» I agree with another reviewer who wrote, «a gem of a restaurant? Only if you consider coal to be a gem!»

Emily’s offers traditional fine dining in a classy country setting.
The menu is fairly extensive, offering a wide range of upscale items, though nothing overly adventurous. The wine list is nice, and includes a good number of wines by the glass. They have a standard selection of house wines but also offer daily wine specials.
For appetizers, we ordered the baked oysters and baked brie. I suppose I must have been in a «baked» kind of mood.
The oysters were okay, but I have to agree with a previous reviewer in that it would be nicer if they had released the oyster from the shell during preparation. Also, while I’m a huge lover of blue cheese, I think that the intense sharpness of the blue cheese overpowered the subtle oyster flavor a bit too much.
The brie was excellent. Perfectly baked, topped with cashews and served with water crackers and an apricot marmalady thing. I hadn’t had brie in quite a while and it was nice to remember how nice it can be.
For my entrée, I had the duck breast. I have to say it was one of the best I’ve had in recent times. I highly recommend this one. My lovely date had the parmesan crusted salmon which was also quite good.
Service was great. Atmosphere is classy and intimate. Prices are on the high side (most entrees in the $ 20-​$ 30 range) but worth it. Reservations are highly recommended
Worth mentioning is the cool bar area. The bar back is built with antique post office boxes that once were part of the old Oley post office. It provides a pretty neat look that fits well with the Victorian theme of the restaurant.
And by the way, «Emily» is supposedly a ghost that some believe resides in this fine old building. I’m not much of a ghost hunter, but if you’re into that kind of thing…
Overall, Emily’s is a great place to take a date or maybe a place for that special occasion. Greg says check it out!

3 months later I return for a graduation party. I figured I’d play it safe with the chicken parm. Imagine a piece of balsa wood covered in a can of chunkie Delmonte sauce and then shake some canned parmesean on it. It is harf to cook a piece of chicken so tough you can’t through it, but Emilys figured it out! The spaghetti that they filled up the extra large plate with had that washed out watery pasta flavor you get from a bad pizza place that you get delivered in a foil tin. THIS PLACE IS A NIGHTMARE THAT YOU WILL KICK YOURSELF FOR WASTING GOOD MONEY ON.

Gem of a restaurant? Only if you consider coal to be a gem! Sunday Brunch was OK but the subsequent dinner killed this place from us wanting to go back. Not a place for foodies.
I really can’t figure out why this place appeared so crowded. It must be either the bar (which isn’t bad) or people in this neck of the woods just don’t know what good food is.
In a nutshell, whoever is in the kitchen just doesn’t know what to do with the food. Which is a shame because the food itself is of decent quality and fresh that gets ruined by the chef or line cook.
We went for brunch on a recent Sunday. I had Smoke Salmon Flat Bread which overall was, well, flat. If the flat bread had been toasted crispy it would’ve been a winner as the salmon and other components were good. But the flat bread ended up being soggy and chalky. My crabcakes were decent. Full of crab and creamy without being overpowered with mayo and there was a nice balance of herbs. My guest had a filet mignon which was very good, cook as ordered. Side salads were fresh. Also provided was a nice assortment of various nut breads, chocolate choclate chip bread, etc.,
Brunch wait service was good. The waitress was attentive but this was dampened by the kitchen’s slowness for which there was no reason as it wasn’t very crowded.
We went a week later for dinner. We were seated promptly at 5:30. We ordered French Onion Soup, Calamari, and Baked Oysters. The French Onion soup was horrible. Way too bitter and too heavy on the wine. It’s almost like they were running out so they extended it by adding straight bitter burgundy table wine. Calamari were good as long as you ate the ones on top but the bottom of the plate was swimming in very nasty tasting jalapeño juice. The oysters could’ve been perfect but had way too much blue cheese and pepper. The chorizo was good though. They didn’t bother to release the oyster from the shell, a pet peeve and annoying The dish would’ve been better with just the oysters and some drawn butter.
My red snapper was bland. Too much almond crust which wasn’t even toasted and the sauce underneath did absolutely nothing for it. My guest had pork tenderloin with apple chutney. While it was cooked as ordered and VERY tender it had no flavor… or too much of the wrong flavor. I picked up too strong a hint of cumin and the apple chutney might as well been diced apples heated up with some water and cinnamon. The other guest had filet mignon and crab cake. While the filet was spot on the crab cake didn’t have the same pleasant and creamy taste as the one a week earlier at brunch. A little too much dill and not enough mayo. Presentation of all the dinners was no better than what you may plate at home for yourself for a weeknight dinner.
Service was mediocre. The waiter tried hard, looked to be in his early 20’s but just lacked experience. I ordered wine with dinner and it never came (nor was it on the bill) and we never received dinner rolls. The bus staff wanted to clear each guest’s plate as soon as they appeared to be done eating which is another pet peeve of mine.
Total with tip was $ 139.00. Way too much much for such a flawed meal. You can get much better food at a chain restaurant such as Texas Roadhouse, Longhorn, or even Max & Erma’s.

My dad lives near Emily’s and goes there every now and then, I’ve only been there once but it was great and I’m looking forward to going there again. It’s not cheap but not overpriced, it’s the kind of place to go to celebrate something.
Entrees are $ 20+ and the full menu is available online. I had and would heartily recommend the Parmesan crusted salmon. To be fair you could crust just about anything (within reason) with Parmesan and I’d be more than happy to eat it, but this was really good.
They’ve got great drinks, very friendly and personable staff, and if I remember correctly Emily still haunts the restaurant.
