Supposedly this is an extinct volcano(I need scientific proof) kidding. Located in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, it’s about a 20 – 30 mile drive from town depending on where you are coming from. Getting to the trailhead, drive past the new bridge and take the first exit which is MM2, you will drive about 5 miles on a dirt road, which if you have a high clearance vehicle, use it, I wouldn’t take a passenger car out there. Once you hit the port-a-potties you will make a right and continue on that road until you come to a parking area and a yellow sign that says«travel at your own risk». Stats: 1200 ft of elevation gain Approx. 6 miles RT Loose gravel/rocks for most of the trail Best time of year is probably Spring, lots of flowers in bloom, this cannot be done in the Summer as you will most likely die or want to die from the heat. Great views of the Strip, Lake Mead, Arizona, the new bridge. Areas of steep climbing and one spot of scrambling.
