I gave Golden Oak five stars because they serve the best breakfest in the Chicago area. I’ve had almost everything that they serve, minus the lunch menu. Their pancakes are fresh, soft, and cooked to order. Bacon was cooked just right with a nice crisp. I didn’t care to much for their sausage, but I’m not a big sausage fan so I wouldn’t count that against them. Other than the pancakes, I love their beligan waffles as well as their french toast. I keep saying that I’m going to their stuff french toast and their crapes. But I highly recommend this place to eat. It’s a usual café with the sweetest employees in the world. The décor is a little dated, but what café is not.

The best feature of this restaurant is that it’s relatively close to my house. I have had some business meetings here because I am not a regular here. Other breakfast places my regular waitresses know my name, order etc. I brought someone to Plaza Café once and the waitress said, Your usual? And then recited it. After she left, my table companion said, First time here? Breakfast business meetings at Golden Oak where the food is OK and I am anonymous. If you are looking for better food I would to to Lumes or better yet, Plaza Café.

Don’t go if you are a vegetarian. Tried to order a Mediterranean salad, which the menu listed as having only vegetables and cheese, then was surprised to get anchovies and an egg on top. Completely ruined my appetite. They definitely need more vegetarian and vegan options.

Came here as a second choice for Father’s Day! They keep changing the name of this place and or selling out? The prices are a bit high for what you get. The buttermilk pancakes I got were a little larger than the one’s my friend got with his meal. The service was fine, but Double Yolk on 30 has the best tasting food and value for the money.

Good place to take the family after church for an old fashioned neighborhood breakfast or late lunch. Been there 3 times, they are consistent with their food, speedy service, coffee is hot & kept full. I have had the waffles & breakfast sausage — egg white omlette with feta. Yummy! Eggs Benedict — maybe they need to work on the Hollandaise, a bit bland. Overall Friendly service, clean & welcoming.

The Golden Oak is our favorite place to eat out. We have tried many breakfast and lunch items and they are all fabulous. The wait staff is very attentive to our needs and requests Try the pancakes, omelettes, sandwiches, soup, early dinner items, egg dishes. Everything is cooked to perfection and delivered to the table in a timely manner.

Went for our first visit last week on a Sunday morning at about 10 am. It was crowded but we were seated within 5 minutes. We ordered a combo plate with a bit of everything and a skillet. All of the meal was very good(although way too much to eat). The big olé slice of «off the bone» ham was my favorite. And, with a big crowd like that, I was really surprised how fast the service was that morning. Whew — they are flying in there!

Want waffles? Go here! And the orange juice is great also. Want Eggs Benedict? I wouldn’t go here — the hollandaise sauce is tasteless and the English muffin was fried in butter. The service was great and fast, the coffee hot and good. If I had just had the waffles like my husband did, I would probably give it 4 stars. Will have to try it again — any excuse for Waffles!
