Pretty good food. You get hush-puppies for the table(similar to how many restaurants have bread with butter). They had bits of pepper in them, made them very tasty. I did the Alligator Bites as an appetizer and Oyster Po-Boy. Food was all pretty good. Service was a bit slow initially, but once I got their attention it was smooth sailing. Place was easy to get to with tons of parking, and is right up against the bayou. Place has a bit of the tourist feel with lots of stuffed animals mounted on the walls(like alligators, snapping turtles, and deer). Prices are decent, and the menu was definitely varied. They had crab cakes, alligator, frog legs, fried, grilled, and boiled shrimp, catfish, etc. Even had gumbo and etoufee. I’d hit this place up again if I’m in Monroe again.

This place has been one of my favorites for a long time. It may not be the fanciest seafood in Monroe, but for atmosphere and food, it can’t be beat in my book. Our most recent visit was a small family reunion which was a party of 7. I had originally requested to be seated outside when I made the reservation, but changed our mind with the evening sun and bugs made it a little uncomfortable. Our request was handled immediately and with another large party in attendance, we moved again with no problem. This place is known for fried seafood. They do have other items(as I had the grilled shrimp with crawfish étouffée — GREAT!) They also do boiled crawfish(in season) and shrimp, and oysters on the half shell. You get fried hush puppies at the table that are one of my favorite(it had been so long since I wrapped my lips around one of these that I almost made my meal out of hush puppies alone). The salad bar is fair but I’m there for the seafood, not the rabbit food. The atmosphere is almost right out of Swamp People. Alligators, deer and mounted bass adorn the walls and the restaurant sits on Bayou Desiard. The back deck and patio overlook the water with cypress trees, knees and Spanish moss all in abundance. There are logs in the water that turtles will crawl up on and you can feed the turtles(most do look of the snapping kind, so watch your fingers if you go down to feed them). The staff were great as they handled our request and were professional about asking us to move to accommodate the other party. The service was a little slow, as they were not expecting so much business on a Tuesday night but we were in no hurry.

good«real» seafood and beautiful bayou seating. Have been going to Cypress Inn since my daughter was little, she loved to feed the turtles now she is grown and brings her friends. We had snow crab legs and fried catfish. Both were generous helping and the service was good, owner Vic stopped by the table. We go a lot because it is locally owned and has been around as long as we can remember. The hamburgers are good too ! big and grilled. Prices are good too.

On a recent trip through northern La, we were lucky enough to find the Cypress. We ate here on the way in and the way out! We had fresh oysters, catfish, fried baby shrimp, stuffed snapper, boiled shrimp, and enjoyed it all. The stuffing in the snapper was outstanding, the baby shrimp soo sweet, everything really fresh. It always comes w/salad bar and a side. Some of the ayce specials are really great values. Service was friendly and quick, we enjoyed both the outside deck and inside dining room. If this place was close id be buying larger clothes soon

Cypress Inn is quite a gem, considering the fact that it’s right next to a swamp. This was my first experience with genuine southern/creole food so I was pretty stoked as soon as we walked in the door. I love that the place was decorated with taxodermied(is that even a word?!) coyotes, alligators, turtles, etc… It added a lot of character to this place. We opted to skip the outdoor seating because it was over 100 degrees and so humid — I thought Kansas was bad. HA. We did, however, venture outside to feed the turtles and take some pictures. Now about the food: We ordered a cup of seafood gumbo(AMAZING!), alligator bites(Tastes like chicken, IMO), frog legs(honestly, they were bland. Very fishy… And scared me), fried crawfish(Loved it!), and fried catfish(yum!)… Oh, we also had a side of sweet potato fries which were very good also, but we were all about trying the different foods that aren’t readily available and fresh in Kansas… Our waiter was amazing, catered to our every need and checked on us often to make sure we were satisfied. He even went outside with us to snap a few pictures, which I thought was sweet of him. :)

Love this restaurant, everytime we visit home we make it a point to eat here. The food is AMAZING, and the service is always EXCELLENT. The alligator balls were to die for. We had a group of 20 the last visit and we were all served with smiles. One of the best in Monroe.

My friends own this restaurant, so it get big points for that. But don’t think I’m being favourable. This place is actually delicious. Great hushpuppies and fried crawfish. Only reason it doesn’t get a higher rating is the atmosphere. It is sincerely lacking. Great bayou view though, they should capitalize on that.

I’m actually writing this review based on comments from my husband & my father. They are traveling and I found this restaurant for them on Unilocal. My husband had the crawfish and my dad had the fresh catch of the day, which was grouper. Both meals were excellent and they loved the atmosphere. Very busy on a Saturday night and seems to be the place for local families. My husband is planning on taking me there when we are in the area next Fall. I’ll be looking forward to it based on their high praises.

The Cypress Inn gets an automatic +1 for nostalgia. When my mama was still alive, this is the place we would go eat the day I had to fly out. I would do my best to make my flight late enough that we had time to eat here. She used to work right around the road so she was a regular. I love this joint. I like the patio best because it’s fun to watch the kids(and adults) feed the turtles and fish. Plus it’s a lovely view of the bayou. Now mind you, I grew up in this town so my review is laced with memories. The salad bar here is okay. It’s not the best. It’s not the worst, but they certainly don’t go to any efforts with ingredients. I am all about the hushpuppies and catfish here. When we sat down, we always told the wait to bring more hushpuppies. So good! During season you can depend on a fairly decent crawfish boil, but I’d go to Meuniere’s first for crawdads. The Cypress Inn serves a consistently good plate of fried catfish with a not-half-bad coleslaw. The restaurant itself is older and the décor reflects that. If you are looking for upscale, chic-chic type atmosphere, please skip the Cypress Inn. But if you want good food served with a friendly smile? C’mon on in and pull up a chair. Just remember – you want extra hushpuppies.

It’s been a while since we’ve been here. It was once a fave, but if you go when they are busy, you can expect not to get the greatest or fastest service. The seafood is usually good, but I must honestly say I’ve had a few cold, hard baked potatoes. My advice is to go early before they get too busy. That’s the best. Overall, I would go back one day.

One of my favorite casual seafood restaurants in town. They have a good variety of seafood(shrimp, crawfish, catfish, oysters, crab, etc.) and some of the best hushpuppies I’ve ever had! We’re always asking for more hushpuppies because once they bring them to our table they don’t last long! They also have a good salad bar. Be sure to come during crawfish season to get your boiled crawfish fix. This place has a very laid-back, casual atmosphere and is located right on Bayou Desiard and has nice views of the bayou.
