AMAZING barbeque! The boyfriend and I were extremely happy and will definitely be going back. Haven’t had bbq this good since I visited texas.

Zero stars. Placed a catering order for a business function well in advance and confirmed the date and time twice. The restaurant doesn’t open until 4 on Tuesdays however I was assured that they could and would accommodate the catering order to be picked up at noon. Went to pick up the order(over $ 200.00 with of food) and there is no one there and also nobody to answer the phone. Had to make a quick order of pizza for the 25 people waiting back at the office. When I called later in the day the response was«Aww man I got my dates mixed up, had a lot of stuff going on in my head». Doesn’t exactly help me out with the situation I had earlier, probably won’t be doing business here in the future.

I had really high hopes for this place. I have to say I was disappointed. We ordered carry out and then had a call back from them saying they had ran out of burger meat… not cool… on a friday… who does the ordering there? and why wasn’t this stocked up for the weekend? So we choose to still order from them but of course in stead of burgers and half rack of ribs we got pulled pork and half rack of ribs. The ribs were the next disappointment, those were burnt :-(so I just tried to pick out the burnt parts to get to the yummy rib meat… the rib meat that was not burnt was very tasty and the BBQ sauce was very yummy too. For that alone I will have to give this place two stars. They know their BBQ sauce! I have to also say that I do know that bad days happen. We all have them. For a place that has such high reviews I hate to be the one to give a bad review. I want to give these guys another try sometime soon. I hope our next experience will not involve burger meat shortage or burnt ribs :-p

My taste buds haven’t been this happy in years. Who knew that you could get barbecue this good in Monroe. The ribs are a must, but don’t forget the coleslaw and baked beans.

The ribs are the best I have ever had. They are great for groups and kids! However the hidden gem here is Susan: she is sincerely sweet but makes a mean Cosmo!!!

I’ve been coming to this place since before the current location opened and at one time it was my favorite restaurant on the planet. As life changes and I spent less and less time in Monroe, I recently realized that I hadn’t stopped in here in years. I went by last Friday night, my first time there since March of 2013. The owner still remembered me, which was a huge plus, and we struck up a short conversation. New since the last time I was in, but not really new. The place now has a liquor license, and decently stocked bar. I came with a friend, we both had drinks, two entrees and fantastic service. the bill was under $ 50. For high quality food, a good atmosphere and amazing service, you can’t beat that. My friend had a huge Delmonico steak, and I had ribs. I couldn’t not have ribs after waiting so long since my last trip. The ribs fell of the bone just looking at them, the cornbread beans and salad that came with them were all good too. Now let me tell you about the sauce. It’s a sweet blended barbecue with a bit of a tang. Custom blended by the restaurant, and simply amazing to taste. Some of the best sauce you can get without travelling hundreds of miles into the south. I won’t wait years to come back next time.

The four horseman burger here is insanely delicious topped with brisket or pulled pork, be sure to ask for extra bbq on the side. They do excellent Bloody Mary’s that come with chicken, or club sandwich on skewers and lemon and bacon garnish. The cozy and quiet atmosphere gives a romantic setting and the staff is playful. The booths are very large, you can fill up with great bbq and lay down for a nap, figuratively of course. Try to make it on a day that Taylor is working she is very sweet and she makes a mean drink!

I love great barbeque and this place is as good as it gets. Everyone raved about Slow’s in Detroit but it doesn’t even compare to J’s. The pulled pork and brisket, BBQ staples in my opinion, are fantastic, some of the best that I’ve ever had. My only regret is that I don’t live closer. Please consider opening a location in Oxford.

I have been to J’s many times over the last 2 months and it is the best BBQ I have ever had!!! There are so many great dishes to choose from and the Delmonico steak is to die for!!! Try some sweet potato fries too. You will love whatever you get!!!

We went here expecting to be wowed with BBQ. Sadly, we weren’t. Based on the reviews here I think food wise maybe it was an off night. The ribs we got fell off the bone, but were VERY dry as well. The service was awful. I ordered a white wine and was given a dirty wine glass. When i pointed it out to the waitress she went to the glass rack to get me another one and then called over to me to tell me they were all like that, it is only fingerprints and only on the outside… seriously? I asked for it in a plastic soda glass. The new glass of wine wasn’t the wine I ordered. I gave up and just left it. The place is very dark with no ambiance and for a weekend night, it was extremely empty. The menu had handwritten price increases on it. With the ease and low cost of printing things these days, that was just tacky.

Great pulled pork, the PP sandwich is a real value. The brisket can be hit or miss. Excellent sides, and sweet tea. The atmosphere is dark and gloomy, and the service is spotty. I could do without the constantly blaring TV. There’s almost never anyone there when I go there… I hope they’re making up their losses with catering.

J’s has great food. The menu is small and simple, but there’s probably something on there that everyone would like. The ribs are awesome. The meat falls off the bone. I love good ribs and I love ribs that I can eat without making a mess. The pulled pork is very good as well, as are most of the sides. The coleslaw has pineapple in it, which is something I don’t really dig. The only negative of J’s is the atmosphere. It’s quiet in there with little lighting, and feels more like eating in someone’s basement than it does in a restaurant. That said, if you’re going there for the food, it’s not too big of a deal.

I went on the suggestion of a friend. It was AMAZING. It’s in a little non-descript dive like location but they have the BESTBBQ! They have a southern-sweet BBQ vibe, they even put pineapple in their coleslaw. I got the pulled pork sandwhich and it was juicy, smokey, and flavorful, didn’t need much sauce. The coleslaw was yummy. My hubby had the j’s sampler and he loved it the ribs had great bark with a smokey flavor, the brisket was moist. I can’t say enough about how worth it is to try this place out. Forget the other places in Monroe this is it!!! Don’t let the outside fool you this place is seriously good!
