Description

Specialties

The Red Onion Café is a chef driven restaurant. The culinary vision is inspired by our Executive Chef Gary Henz. His made from scratch approach begins with sourcing the finest ingredients. .We make all soups, sauces and dressings. We cut and cook our own meats. Each entrée is made to order to ensure the freshest experience for our guests.

History

Established in 2005.

The Red Onion Café is located in the whiskey cellar of the Old Red Onion Hotel built in the 1850’s. The Old Hotel was the main stop on the stagecoach line between Cincinnati and Dayton. The cellar has served as a stop on the underground railroad, a floral shop, a buffet room, and a bar. In 2006, the team of Gary Henz and Mark Bursley transformed the space into the Café you see today. In 2010 Cinci Magazine selected The Red Onion Café one of the 50 things that makes you love Cincinnati. The Red Onion was Cincinnati Magazine’s feature restaurant in 2011.

Manager

Red Onion’s Executive Chef Gary Henz has been the driving culinary force since the beginning in 2006. Ten years at La Maisonette and ten years at Trails End in Dayton gave Gary the vision and depth of his culinary skills. He runs a made from scratch kitchen and all entrees are made to order. Gary keeps his menu fresh with an eye on current trends, while remaining firmly rooted in the classic haute cuisine.
