Not only is this some of the BEST fried chicken EVER, it also has the very best customer service I’ve ever experienced in a fast food environment! My boyfriend had heard great things about this place so we decided to check it out. Our first visit, there was a line up of cars all the way around the bldg!(No eat in is available, strictly drive thru and a seperate pickup window-it’s housed in an old Sonic if that helps, but no car hop service here). We decided what the heck, we’d wait. They got through that line up of cars in record time, I still have no clue how! I doubt the chicken and fries were premade, as they came to us hotter than h*** and fresh! So, if you see a big line up, don’t panic, you’ll have your food in no time! **Great** prices too!!! On subsequent visits we’ve tried the chicken strips(they come with a dipping sauce much like Raising Canes), Chicken livers,(plentiful, with fresh tender insides & a great, well seasoned crunchy outside), mac & cheese(OK) & mashed potatoes with gravy(average). Overall, a super place to add to your list of «go to» chicken joints. And, I have to add, these are some good folks that work there! On one visit, my mind was preoccupied, I was in a rush & left my debit card behind. Hours later, I realized it was missing & I called them. They had it & even waited on me to get back there to retrieve it, although I’m sure it made the crew late getting off work, every one of them in there acted like getting my card back to me was super important! So, a BIG Thank You for that! :)

So I would not recommend going at lunch time, but from what I have heard from my friends, this place is ALWAYS busy! The food is pretty good, but make sure you check you’re order before you leave. I missed two sauces and had to eat my chicken plain. The food itself is OK, I like the mashed potatoes the most, and I got okra and Mac n cheese as well.

There’s a reason people wait in line here: Everything, nearly everything, is on point. Fresh sweet tea, crispy okra, chicken that crunches so loud in my wife’s mouth that it sounds like I’m eating it. The rolls are just rolls, nothing special, and today the apple pie was something like you’d get at Mickey D’s, except a bit undercooked and lukewarm. But dang, when you have to work that hard for something negative to say, you know it’s good. I’ll be coming back for more, and I’m vegetarian. That’s the other good sign: when a chicken place can keep vegetarians happy, there’s something amazing here. And did I mention the prices are insanely good? Believe that.

Southern Classic Chicken is now open in Monroe! They have taken over the old Sonic location on Desiard St. You can conveniently walk up and order at the take out window or the drive-thru. Since its opening, I kept wondering why there was always a long line of cars in the drive-thru and full parking lot. They must be doing something right if masses of people keep coming back for more right? I was hesitant to wait in the long drive-thru line until I saw how quickly the cars moved. I had about 4 cars ahead of me and waited about 6 mins or so until I could order. As soon as I pulled up to the pick-up window, my order was ready in a couple of minutes! I was impressed with the speed and accuracy of service, which is always a win in my book! The fried chicken was quite the Southern treat. The skin was crispy, flavorful(almost reminiscent of KFC original recipe), but with a kick after each bite(not as spicy as Popeyes). The meat was tender and moist, as properly fried chicken should be. Definitely give this new place a try if you love that Southern fried chicken!
