Monrovia Library Park

Why is there no restrooms?! Make sure you check the times the library is open and come at that time, especially if you have little ones that need to go. I guess they figure the only time kids in a park need to go is when the library is open. Why is there a park with a playground but no restrooms?

This is a mini park behind the Monrovia Library. It’s clean enough for kids to run around, soft protective playground floors and there’s a grassy area for a little picnic.
Safe parking spaces. I appreciate these little free things.

An unfortunate problem with transients inside and outside the library. This library/​Park was one of the biggest reasons my fiancé and I moved to old town. I usually study long hours at this location but lately the transient problem seems to be getting worse. I no longer feel safe inside or outside the library. Parents/​guardians please beware and take care of your children. This place is not safe. For all the regulars please do not let your guard down and also beware at all times!!! The city should do something quick before residents/​business take their revenue elsewhere.

A few years ago I was so excited to be living right by this park now we can’t wait to get away from it. There is a MAJOR homeless problem going on and the local cops and city council just seem to be turning their heads the other way (I have called about it and I have gotten the most ridiculous responses from them myself). It’s so embarrassing for such a small gorgeous city to have the issue continue to grow. I walk the park almost daily and know of all the faces and it seems every month there are a few new ones. There is even starting to be issues with people living in RVs parking on the street for days! I’ll have to ad pics later of all the garbage and crap they leave at the public benches and tables they occupy 24 hrs a day! So so sad!

I feel bad about giving Library Park only 2 stars but this ranking is due to the homeless population that has taken over and the city doing nothing about it. I am a long time resident of Monrovia who voted for the Library Park renovation and had my property taxes increased to make it possible. Now I don’t like to go there because of this group of people who obviously have substance abuse problems and don’t want to change their lives. There was an article in the Star News that said the homeless population in the park are «resistant» to help that is available to them and that Monrovia has a much smaller homeless population than Pasadena so the citizens Monrovia shouldn’t complain. It’s really too bad that such a nice park in a nice city is being ruined by this unfortunate situation. Be cautious if you decide to go there.

One of my favorite libraries. but I’m biased as I really do love libraries… the interior is very clean and well kept. Everyone is very helpful and eager to assist. The kid’s area is nice and they have a good collection of books. I haven’t spent enough time here to comment on the adult side but I can see myself coming here to study.
My only gripes are: 1. extremely limited hours (especially for working & student moms like me) 2. transients that frequent the immediate surroundings.

Warning to parents, this park has been taken over by homeless. One of the churches has an outreach program and due to this they call this park home. If you don’t believe me drive by and check it out. It looks more and more disgusting every week. What are our city officials doing about it? Nothing.

Such a peaceful place to sit and rest by the fountain while enjoying old town Monrovia! Great small town America feel. Very suitable for people watching :) On Saturday afternoons, this guy Tom brings out stuff to blow gigantic bubbles. Both kids and adults can try it out, and the fun is guaranteed! Right next to the Old Town dining and shopping. Kid’s playground on the other side of the library. Plenty of free parking.

This park takes up the whole block, and encompasses the library-​thus the name! It’s a nice sized park. There is a kid play area behind the library. There are benches scattered all around. You may even run into Mr. Twain and get his attention, if he can ever stop reading that book of his!

Nice park. It’s very clean with lots of open space and close to old town Monrovia. Great place to chill and relax while reading a book. I also so kids playing at the playground, people throwing the baseball around with their kids and people having picnics.

Excellent gem hidden right behind the brand new Monrovia Library. There are several jungle gyms/​swing sets for kids of all ages. The playground floor is made of that soft rubbery material which is great to run on and easy to fall on. There are many benches for the parents to sit on and it’s a wonderful 30-​minute stop when you’re walking through Old Town Monrovia with your family. Don’t miss it!
