Very knowledgeable staff. But on trying to make a sale for a new mountain bike (which was logical) one of the staff (not Vinny or Chris) was a little (OK, a lot) condescending and then tried to sell me a bike $ 100 more than their advertised price and was trying to make me think he was doing me a favor as he was willing to come down $ 50. So $ 50 more than their advertised price. And still $ 100 more than the same model in a frame one size smaller (confused? Yeah, buying a bike should not be confusing).
I’m really trying to show my support for local store owners, but I’m not an idiot. Two other stores selling the same bike for either their advertised price or lower. and they are trying to price gauge.

As a relative bike newbie looking to get into sprint triathlons next year, I had no idea what to ask for when I walked into Diamond Cycle. Once I spit everything out to Aaron (oh, including a smaller-than-I’d-like budget!), he showed me the EXACT bike I needed. It’s been perfect for around-​town AND on longer rides; so grateful and pleased that my husband bought the male version of my bike. I look forward to service and upgrades at DC in the future!

My wife and I were interested in buying a couple of Brompton folding bikes. Brompton’s are usually ordered be-​spoke and as there are many choices in configuration, I was looking for dealer who could assist in the ordering process as well as the post purchase maintenance.
I found Diamond Cycle on Brompton’s list of authorized dealers and after speaking with Craig who is a Brompton expert and rider, we decided to order the bikes and that this was the shop we wanted to deal with.
Craig let us test ride several times to be sure we made the right choice in model. In the whole process there was never any sales pressure and Craig was great about making several changes after the initial order was put through.
On picking up the bikes they were tuned and set up and the staff there made sure that we understood how to properly fold and unfold the bikes. After riding the bike a couple of times I found that I needed a higher seat post and again Craig was cool with making any changes needed.
The shop is a full service well stocked bike store that has been there for around 100 years.
If you’re looking for a Brompton I would highly recommend them I’m very happy with my choice of both bike and bike shop.

Great experience! This was the 2^nd year I rented a bike from Diamond Cycle for the bike tour and I can honestly say there’s a reason why I keep coming back. Craig and his team are very accommodating to their clients and they genuinely care about everyone walking out with a great experience.
They accommodated to me picking up my rental bike after hours, provided me with a bike rack because the bike didn’t fit in my car, and even helped me put it on my car etc. I would definitely recommend this place for many reasons, and obviously don’t have to mention their bike selection is great! Craig you and your team are awesome, keep doing what you’re doing!

We love Diamond Cycle and have loved them for years! Craig and the crew at Diamond always take care of my family — from great wrench work on my Specialized S Works mountain bike to taking care of the kids bikes to installing our Thule system. We always get great service and fair dealings.

I LOVE this place! A newbie to bikes before July, Aaron helped me choose a good fit, and has since helped me with all things cycling!
A couple months after buying my hybrid from them, I was «given» a road bike. I took it to Diamond Cycle, and they checked it out for me.
I learn something new every time I go. I especially like that there is absolutely no pressure to purchase anything. It makes it easy to actually buy something, to support the business.

Craig helped explain the difference b/​w a Brompton and other foldable bikes, like a Dahon. He suggested & explained the options to consider for selecting the parts for the Brompton, which was very helpful.
Aaron helped me with selecting the right helmet, and explained the differences b/​w the construction of various helmets.
It was a pleasant experience shopping at Diamond Cycle. I highly recommend this place.

Before I begin I want to say I am not what one would consider the «target customer» of a bike shop.
Why?
I don’t know how to ride a bike.
Actually.I DID NOT know how to ride a bike. until Diamond Cycle.
Let me explain.
I’m one of those few people who grew up never learning how to ride a bike. So now I’m an adult. and not a young one mind you (40+ years old) & I’m noticing how many people are riding their bikes around.
I have always wanted to ride a bike; I spin but I understood at the time the experience of actual «bike riding» is completely different.
So.one spring evening I found myself walking up Bloomfield Avenue and walked past Diamond Cycle and figured. what the heck.
I marched in there and blurted out to the guy (who I later found out was the owner Craig) that I was interested in bikes but had no idea how to ride one.
Without missing a beat he said «Well then you need to learn how to ride».
I asked if he knew how I could and 5 min later he gave me the contact info for a place in Montclair that offers bike lessons to adults (yes.there are more like me) and said I could rent a bike for the lesson.
2 weeks later Craig arranged for the bike to be waiting for me at the location where my bike lesson was held.
Talk about service.
It took me 4 hours to finally get my «pedals» but that day I felt so triumphant. I had learned to ride!!!
Of course. I’m wobbly and unsteady but I’m cycling and staying upright.
Diamond Cycle was there for me a week later when I walked in and declared I was ready to BUY a bicycle.
The people at Diamond are so helpful and knowledgeable and friendly. they never made me feel uncomfortable and were genuinely happy for me becoming the newest member of the cycling community.
Craig in particular is very knowledgeable and really took the time to listen to what type of riding I was interested in doing and suggested bikes that would be good for what I planned on doing and what would be convenient for me as far as storage.
I walked out of there with a foldable bike, a helmet, riding gloves and a renewed sense of confidence. I can do this!
I would’ve been taken advantage of in a bigger shop but Diamond is the type of place that you are proud to support; it’s a cozy neighborhood store that is a true gem due to Craig and his staff always being supportive, knowledgeable and genuinely excited about bringing as many people to the joy and fun of cycling.
I am a definite devotee.

So this is a follow-​up post to my experience at the Montclair Bikery looking for a balance bike for my youngest son – yikes!
When I left Montclair Bikery to scour craigslist or freecycle for a balance bike I noticed Diamond Cycles tucked off Bloomfield Ave – I don’t think I’ve ever seen it before. It’s a little tough parking on the street (you know how Bloomfield Ave is – not as bad up in Montclair, but it’s double parked the closer you get to Newark). I figured I’d give them a shot, since I prefer buying locally and supporting the shops.
It’s not like the shop was bustling with activity – I actually couldn’t tell who the staff were and who the customers were – everyone seemed to be minding their own business and no one seemed to be being helped. After one wrong attempt asking someone if they worked there (they didn’t) I snagged a «salesperson». I think they picked the wrong group of people to try and sell things (or maybe a balance bike just isn’t worth their time), but it seemed from his attitude that I was wasting his time just telling him what I needed. I was so embarrassed that I wanted to walk out.
He finally took me over to the computer and answered a few phone calls while he looked up the balance bikes. You’d think I’d asked him to move the world when I asked about color variations!
Not my best experience at a bike shop – it made me appreciate my experience at the Bikery more – and I don’t know if I’ll be going back. I really prefer to be treated like a customer, not a nuisance even if I am just buying something small.

I’ve recently had a bad experience while inquiring about a Cannondale bike… Was not treated right! No respect! I’ll spare you the details… If you’re looking for a Cannondale bike, there are many other dealers in NJ that will help you!
In the past, this shop has done competent maintenance (that’s why they’re getting 2 stars and not just 1), but they tend to push sales in a not so honest way…
For those of you that depend on bike stores for mechanics, I recommend you get some tools, books, whatch some videos on YouTube and start fixing and maintaining your bikes yourselves. It is not that hard and very zen. Parts can be bought online. You’ll know the job is well done!

I just got my second bike from here — a cute Dutch bike that was outside on the rack that I just HAD to have. The service was great, as usual, and they also helped replace a tire tube on my other bike that I got from there years ago. A great bike store with everything you need, right in the heart of downtown Montclair.

Bunch of losers. Poor customer service. Condescending. Save yourself the effort with these clowns and buy from TREAD in the Inwood section of Northern Manhattan. TREAD also sells Cannondales and for the money you will be spending in taxes, you’ll break even on the price because Diamond sells at about 10 to 15 percent above of MSRP ripping people off on the price. Don’t buy from them. They think that they are the only game in town; they aren’t. Ira and his staff at TREAD are much more personable and interested in making sure you find the bike that you want and one that will best fit your needs.

Super-​nice guys, always treated kindly. Helpful and informative. I’ve brought my son’s bike here for repair and have always been treated well. After having a bad experience with a bike purchase at another store, I’ve only bought accessories here, but advice has been on point, service has been pleasant, and prices are fair. A good place for bikes!

Diamond Cycle is a family-​run, cozy bike store with old-​fashioned good customer service. I have been taking my family’s bikes there every year for tuneups since I moved to the area in 2005, and they always do a superb job. They diagnose problems clearly and are honest about what needs replacement. One time I wiped out and brought my bike in for a safety checkup, and they did it for me immediately and at no charge since I’d recently gotten my bike tuned up. They’re extremely knowledgeable and their prices are fair.

I’ve been a Diamond Cycle customer for 11 years, since I moved to NJ and a neighbor recommended them as good people running a great shop. He was right. The staff at Diamond love bikes and the people who ride them. They don’t oversell just to get someone on a pricey bike that is not right for them. Their repairs are solid and they can fix anything.
All around, it’s a value-​oriented shop offering solid bikes that give a lot for the money, repairs that aren’t too expensive and heartfelt service.

Yikes — don’t trust their mechanics! After deciding I was too lazy to order a new tube, I just dropped off my bike. Well, $ 89.00 later, the mechanic decided I needed a new tire and it took him «several hours» to true my wheel. (I later found this time for service claim to be fictitious, as I was eavesdropping on a conversation he had with a buddy that seemed to be just bumming around the store.)
When I inquired about the cost, the mechanic became defensive, saying, «I don’t know! That was ten bikes ago!» (I had recieved a message 1 hour prior that my bike was ready for pick up — that haste for service may explain what went wrong…
I immediately hopped on my bike and rode 5 miles home, assuming that 89 $ spent should insure my safety — I was terribly wrong, because the mechanic put the WRONG SIZE TIRE ON MY BIKE ANNNND THE TUBE WAS NOT INSERTED CORRECTLY (obvious pinching). Not only is this idiotic, careless, dangerous, it could have cost me a lot more than $ 89. Fortunately, I got away with walking a few miles home with a flat bike that was worse off than when I went.
I will never go back.
Bottom line:
1. Bad mechanics
2. Fast — but at a cost to your safety

Thanks Diamond Cycle! I called over 8 different bike shops in order to find my Giant Dash 3 and they had it in stock! I called around 1030AM, told them what I wanted, said they had it and started building it for me. I arrived at 1PM from Brooklyn (Park Slope) and I’m already back home with my bike, built and fitted. It’s 230PM :) Great service and they took the time to show me a few things about my new bike. Very nice shop!
I’ll be back for my tune-​up. Finally a place that has good customer service! It’s amazing with all the places in NY, I went to NJ to get what I wanted. They were fast and very reliable!
