I have been coming here for years and Nori never disappoint! The extensive menu truly has something for everyone. From fresh sushi/sashimi pieces to teriyaki. They definitely earn their claims of being one of the best sushi places in Montclair.

Consistent sushi with a lot of vegetarian options– they have a whole section of non-fish rolls! I like the Bugs Bunny and Mango Potato the best!

Stopped in tonight to pick up my to go order of 2 rolls. The sushi is less expensive than where I typically go, and this place is close to my house, so I thought I would give it a try. One of the rolls I had was better than the other, but for specialty rolls, they were tiny. I have to say that this place is pretty average, not bad, but not something I will rave about to others. However, if you want sushi that is worth raving about, go to Aki in Bloomfield. It’s amazing.

Came here for sushi tonight after going much too long without a good sushi meal in a while, so needless to say I was excited to eat here. I ordered the Montclair & the Krazy rolls with brown rice. I’m not exactly sure which roll was which once my plate arrived, but I will say that of the two I enjoyed the one that was physically bigger in size. As far as sushi goes, it was more middle of the road quality. Maybe I just need to try some different rolls in order to understand all of the excitement of this place, and I’d be willing to give it a second try!

My family and I have been coming here for many years and we love it. The food is great. We get the usual appetizers, seaweed salad, gyoza, shumai, soup and various tempura and they have always been good. Yesterday we tried the beef sate on a stick, it was very delicious. The sushi rolls are always good. We like the regular stuff like California rolls, and eel cucumber, etc. Their«exotic rolls» really are fantastic, my favorite are the Nori delight and the Mango Spider but we have tried many in the past few years and have enjoy the majority of them. Also sitting at the sushi bar is fun and the chefs always make a nice presentation with fancy garnishes. The service has always been great at this place. I do not understand the bad reviews of the service. We have never been treated badly here. When my nephew was a little kid,(now he is a teenager) the waitresses would give him the small chopsticks for kids because he wanted to use chopsticks like everyone else. Very nice and efficient service. The prices at this place really cannot be beat. I have eaten at other sushi place and spent a lot more but did not like the food as much as this place.

I’ll strongly preface this review by saying I’m no sushi connoiseur. If I eat it twice a year, that’s probably a stretch. So, take my opinion with a grain of salt. Service was friendly and prompt but I was not too impressed with the sushi. Neither the tuna roll nor the sashimi tasted all that fresh and some of the rice was overcooked. The miso soup was good, but the tempura was a bit bland. I suppose I’ll give Nori another shot, but not before trying out some of its competition. Street parking. Casual environment. BYOB, like most spots in Montclair.

Use love this place but recently food has gotten worse & worse. Had salmon yellow tail avocado sushi roll there today and the fish was so bad it tasted like garbage; won’t be surprised if that little bit of bad fish will give me food poisoning tonight(that’s how nasty it tasted). The people I were with teriyaki meals were cold when delivered & the waitress was rude, forgot to bring the drinks we ordered. The service there usually sucks to be honest. Time to try other Japanese in the area, sorry not sorry nori.

so I went here with a few friends about a few days ago and I’m still thinking about the meal I had here! the sushi was AMAZING. to start, the presentation of the food was very well done. also, my friends and I decided to be very daring and order the sushi with crab meat and kiwi on top. I was very skeptical about mixing fruit with sushi but once I took the first bite, I was mind blown. I also tried the miso soup which was excellent and extremely flavorful. the only thing that stopped me from giving them a five star rating would be the service being a little too unfriendly but still. this place was so good and I never write reviews and felt like I had to because it was so good! definitely will be coming back.

My family love this place so much. We came here last Saturday to celebrate my son’s birthday. He loves Donkey Kong roll and wasabi shrimp. We enjoy the love boat and vegetable sushi. It took a while before the food was served. But it was absolutely worth. The food was great and the service was awesome! Love this cozy place in Montclair.

I don’t understand the low ratings at all. The food here is amazing. It’s the best sushi I have ever had anywhere. The lunch special is the best. You can two rolls of your choice, soup, salad, an an appetizer for 13.50!

Hands down the best sushi I have sver had… both locations. I have tried at least 15 other places but no one can compare to Nori! Sushi pizza and Snow mountain are the best on the menu, but i also love the mango shrimp and spicy caldwell. It can get a little pricey if yoh want a variety but it’s so worth it because every bite is delicious. The acoustics in this place are pretty bad, however, but it’s totally worth sucking up the noise through a wonderful meal.

The customer service at this place is horrible. Beyond. 2 friends and I came for sushi Saturday afternoon, banking on good food and a good time. What we received was mediocre rolls and distasteful service. So, my two friends got there first and told me that they weren’t even acknowledged for about 15 mins before they had to wave someone down to take their order. We started off with the harumaki, seaweed salad, kani salad, and miso soup. Perfect, even though the soup was kind of cold, no complaints there. We waited about another 20 mins before someone even came over to clear the table. And when he did come, he took away one plate and never came back for the rest! So another 10 mins past before he came back to take our sushi order(someone else realized that our table looked like pure garbage and finally removed the used dishes). One of my friends noticed the«Specials Menu» and decided to try the«Coconut Shrimp Lobster» roll. We also ordered the«Donkey Kong», «Ichiban», «Digimon», «Verona», «M16», «Avocado & Eel» and«Dragon Salmon» rolls. Obviously, we came to eat. While we were waiting, a guy at the table in back of us was yelling and complaining because they were waiting a long time for their food. He demanded they take of 20% of his bill, which they did(please remember this part). By the way, the décor is very beautiful, especially for such a small sushi spot. Moving forward… So we finally received our sushi and was completely disgusted with the presentation. Seriously, it was so sloppy and ugly(I worked in a Sushi/Hibachi restaurant prior so I’m pretty well versed in the Japanese cuisine). Sushi is usually so beautifully presented, I was extremely disappointed. Nevertheless, we began eating. The special that my friend ordered came out with this hideous green sauce that tasted a million times worse than what it looked like. We read the special again and realized that it did not state that it would be topped with a sauce. We were completely turned off. How did they know if one of us weren’t allergic to an ingredient or something? Never mind the DISGUSTING taste. After such a traumatizing experience, I was hesitant to taste the next roll. But surprisingly, everything else was okay. Everything else except for the«Ichiban». Idk who came up with that combination, but please do not pursue a culinary career… ever. Because we were so displeased with those two rolls, we politely asked if they could please take those two rolls off the bill, but we would pay for everything else because it was good. After consulting 3 other staff, they refused to adjust our bill. We were told management was no where to be found and no one could help us. So, I reminded them of the table earlier who rudely demanded a discount that was given to them. The waitress proceeded to tell me that that was a different scenario. No. The only difference was the age and ethnicity of the other customer. They continued to deny our request. All of us have experience in restaurant customer service and were completely baffled at the blatant discrimination and horrible customer service. All in all, this place will never receive our business again or anyone we know. — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — INRESPONSETOTHEOWNER’S COMMENT: Wow! It’s so awesome that I got finally a response from management a month after the incident. seeing as «there was no management available» at the time of the incident lol. I’d like to take the time to thank you for addressing this. But your points are invalid. 1. I definitely complemented positively on the décor and the food we did enjoy. 2. Seeing as you reviewed cameras with no audio and are going strictly by the account of your extremely rude staff, AND no management was at your establishment at the time(very odd to be running a business like that) I gather that you have absolutely no veracity of what occurred. 3. Please don’t insult us by saying we paid only half the bill. That is a lie. We simply deducted the item your staff refused to take off. 4. I personally worked in a Sushi restaurant. Your chefs gave us sloppy presentation. 5. They did take off 20% of the other customer’s bill. We were sitting right behind him and heard the entire thing. I’m pretty sure you’re aware of how small the restaurant is… 6. I never wrote a bad review on a restaurant because I’ve never had such a horrible experience. 7. There are several reviews on here stating that the customer service here is less than it should be. 8. This review was completely honest and true. It wasn’t written to be negative. It was written because that was what my friends and I experienced at your establishment. Maybe, you should take that into account the next time you go over how to improve the customer’s experience :)

We were in Montclair and craving sushi so we decided to check this place out. This special rolls menu is overwhelming to look at. Just when I thought I got through all of them, I realized there was another page. Definitely come with an idea of what kind of fish/roll you want or look at the menu beforehand. If not, you will be staring at the menu for 20 mins like we were. After changing our minds about 5 times, we finally decided on the verona, samurai, and titanic rolls. The rolls were a little small for special rolls and not very visually appealing. The shrimp tempura in the titanic roll was definitely lacking, as it was pretty skimpy. In spite of these shortcomings, our rolls all tasted pretty delicious. The fish was fresh and they got the spicy mayonnaise to fish ratio right in the spicy rolls. We also shared a tom yum soup, which was just okay in my opinion. I’ve definitely had heartier ones with more flavor. My cousin ordered tofu teriyaki, and it was really crispy and tasty. Overall, this is a solid byob sushi restaurant.

We had an unfortunate experience with the ethics of this restaurant. We walked in at 630(party of two) and were shown a two-top. As the restaurant was virtually empty, we asked for a larger table. We were told that all the tables had reservations. I told them that we were going to eat quick and will likely be done by the time they would need the larger tables. Let me point out that virtually EVERYSINGLETABLE was open… The reality is that they just didn’t want to accommodate us and it bothered us. When we left about 45 min later, most of the larger tables still remained opened. I remarked(a bit of sarcasm) to the waitress and front desk… what happened to all the reservations??? They ignored me. Ohhh, how was the sushi? It was good, but the lack of focus for customer appreciation was enough to turn us off. There is equal sushi quality and friendlier service elsewhere… like Kim’s in West Orange.

One hour and 20 minutes to get food from the time we entered. Absurd. Why we stayed that long, who knows. Upon arrival the sushi and rolls average at best.

Decided to eat here because Cubans Pete’s up the block had a 40 minute wait. Anyway worst sushi in Montclair hands down, actually in the whole Essex county!!! Went here on a Friday night(ladies night) Let me start with service… I don’t think I could start because it was horrible… Our waiter was a tad rude but I don’t know if that’s the way he is or maybe came across that way because of the language barrier but if u want a good tip u could at least check up on us and say is everything OK… Anyway it took for ever to get our taken, Forever to get our salads and miso soups And an hour to receive our sushi. For a second there I was going to ask our waiter if they were out fishing the fish for our sushi because it took 1 hour to bring our meals… Anyway besides the wait for our food and the poor service the food itself was fresh and great such a shame… they need to improve with the service this is my 2ND time here and both times service has been atrocious.

Great byob sushi restaurant! Came here for dinner on a weekday and ordered three sushi rolls. The sushi was pretty fresh and service was very quick. I also thought the prices were reasonable. I will definitely be returning!

One of the best Sushi spots i’ve tried in NJ.(and I’m a sushi addict! — once a week type guy) I’m not sure if it was the BYOB that had me TURNT or that I was with a group of 12 having a great time, but the atmosphere was great as well. Awesome for groups. The sushi we ordered was ridONKulously good: My favorite rolls in order: 1. Digimon Roll 2. Godzilla Roll 3. Mexican Roll 4. Spider Roll Very friendly service, she was even nice enough to split the bills for such a large group. Highly recommend this spot. Great little find can’t believe I’ve never been here before.

I was in the area and got some sushi takeout. I ordered a brown rice Alaska roll with a seaweed salad. The roll was a little dinky portion and the seaweed salad had a lot of dressing on it(and was served with a maraschino cherry on top which was a little unusual). All in all, I wasn’t too impressed.

Whenever I get together with my best friends and we have a hard time deciding where to go to catch up, we can always count on #NORI Montclair to be in our top choices. There’s a parking lot in the back that’s open for more than just this restaurant so it tends to pack up quickly depending on the time. They have plenty of seating for groups, which we love. And it’s spacious enough where you don’t feel bunched up. Service: The waitresses are always attentive and accommodating to your needs. A lot of the sushi spots I have visited, you always get servers that will mumble when you ask for more spicy mayo sauce. But these ladies do it with a smile. We like them. FOOD: Fresh, delicious, and affordable. They have plenty of exotic rolls and basic rolls to choose from. Love the spicy mango shrimp ! They also have some great lunch specials. It’s BYOB and don’t say you didn’t have time to get a bottle –there’s a liquor store right next door.
