Colleen established Small Forest Photography after receiving a bachelors in photography at Montclair State. She spent nearly a decade assisting other photographers and being mentored by professionals from Asia, Central America, and right here at home in New York City.

Business Owner

My name is Colleen Gutwein and I am the founder of Small Forest Photography — Small Forest was the name given to me while I was teaching English (and photography club) at Yashiro High School in Nagano, Japan. I have had the opportunity to travel to many different parts of the world to photograph. Exposure to culture and traditions throughout my travels has helped me to expand my mind and my photographer’s eye. My photography style focuses on capturing the mood of the moment with strong composition presented in crisp and clutter-​free images. My studios are located in Montclair and Newark, NJ.
