This is my favorite sushi spot! I come here regularly when I have a craving for sushi and a cold Sapporo Draft beer. I’ve tried other sushi places in the area and they just don’t compare to this one. The food and service are consistently good as well as the pricing reasonable. At Happy Hour you can get a 32 oz Sapporo Beer for $ 5. The Ramen is good and the Bento Boxes come with a lot of too, but my favorite are the specialty rolls especially the Macho man and Crunchy Spicy Tuna Roll. Yummm! The Chicken Yaki noodles are also one of my usual orders. I’m planning on heading over tonight after work for some much needed beer and sushi. See you there…

The manager here is a total dick. He basically called me a liar! I asked if they could make the tofu bowl they made me on the last occasion I was here because it’s not a menu item. The manager actually said«in the ten years I’ve been here we’ve never made that for anyone». Really?! That’s a reasonable reply to a simple question. Somehow I magically made up eating a fried tofu bowl here… Awesome! At least the waitress wasn’t here that did that for me last time, because if I had said«yeah she made that for me» he probably would have fired her. Ugh… Totally ruined this place for me. I doubt I’ll return. And I was here at least once a week for the veggie sushi rolls… I know I took a picture of the bowl because I was so happy with it, if I find it I’ll upload it.

I walked in the door and it’s a busy place. Lots and lots of employees. At least 5 at the sushi bar, and a couple more in the back doing restaurant stuff. There were about 5 young girls at the front of the house. Upon entering, no greetings and no one approached. Mind you, they were busy, maybe someone could have offered a bar seat or a simple«we’ll be with you in a moment sir». But nope. Two employees walked by me(both young girls), neither said a word. I helped myself. I took a seat at the bar. Once again, no one said a word. After about 2 to 3 minutes, I asked one of the sushi making chefs, if I could have a beer. He said«yes», but it was another five minutes before my beer arrived. I asked if I could have a menu, and someone immediately handed me one; however, it would’ve been nice for a menu to be offered immediately. So I didn’t have the gut wrenching experience that the guy a few months ago had. I ordered the basics; Spicy Tuna Roll, California Roll, and. I washed it all down with two Kirin Lights. Based upon a couple of the previous reports, I played it safe, and carefully smelled EVERYTHING(didn’t feel like spending the weekend in the hospital). Food was ok. The rolls DO fall apart; don’t think they pack enough rice on the seaweed and maybe their too wet? Pic included. No, you don’t get a complimentary soy sauce dish. Confirmed that. You gotta ask for it. So I would say so far it was a fairly positive experience, given the fact that I was at the mall, starving, and terrified at the prospect that my fate would be similar to that of two previous posters. I feel good about the food, because I did not experience the odors that other people commented about. So here is some advice about service. In the restaurant business greeting and initial contact are crucial. People are looking to be pleasantly surprised. Especially when they try a restaurant for the first time. I usually find this with younger staff; absence of enthusiasm for guests arriving, failure to recognize the value of a greeting and warm welcoming gesture, and finally, not realizing that anyone can buy free menu, a beverage, or suggest that the guest will be helped shortly. It’s not someone else’s job, it’s every job. I think it’s safe to say at this point that the food is good, but the service is not unlike any other where the staff is very young and inexperienced. If you provide some solid training your staff will certainly bring up your ratings.

Hikari one of my personal favorite spots! Chicken bowels are are great, I love the ramon noodles soup, lots of different options. Great place to chill and have a beer. Workers are friendly. I’ve always had great service. The spicy mayo is very good.

My third review of Hikari, and it’s still a great place to grub. Now that I’m no longer a Macy’s employee, it’ll be a bit harder to come and eat here, but I’ll still show up every now and then. You can’t go wrong with good food and good service.

Hello my Unilocalies, WARNING! DONOTCOMEHERE! ITS A RIPOFFFORBADQUALITYFOOD! And here is why… Came here to shop around the Montebello Mall for the first time and saw this place inside the mall and thought, hey why not try it since it seems pretty decent. Parking here is very convenient since its shared with the mall so don’t need to worry about finding parking spaces. First we order the popcorn shrimp appetizer, it was super over cooked, the shrimp is very small but I get it you get what you pay for since it was $ 5. The batter was way too thick and it was over drenched with sauce. No body likes soggy deep fried food. Aa for the main dish I order the salmon teriyaki bento box for $ 16, since I can’t make up my mind might as well try everything in one! WORSEDECISIONEVER!!! Whoever wants to try this for the sake of your LIFE, don’t order this! First of all the salmon is the size of half of my palm and as skinny as a piece of paper. This is Salmon Teriyaki Bento Box, Salmon is the main dish in this and you gave me 2 skinny small ass slice of salmon? Are you kidding me? But whatever… Next the tempura, how hard is it to make tempura? You just penko it and deep fried it! How can you BURNTIT??? I have two broccoli that I was extremely excited to eat, and BOTHOFTHEMAREBURNEDONTHEINSIDE and OUT!!! I didn’t even know it was burned at the beginning so I bite into it, couldn’t even eat anything afterword since I couldn’t get that burning taste out of my mouth. I don’t understand how hard is it to cook simple tempura, even I know how to do it. Thirdly, the spicy tuna roll, when I pick it up everything fell apart. How can? I’m honestly speechless. I hate it when I go to sushi places and everything falls apart when you tried to pick it up, so disappointing. Lastly, how hard is it to bring everything that was included in the bento box together, how long have you been working here? No… That doesn’t even matter, every place that serves bento boxes knows that it comes with miso soup and tempura comes with tempura dipping sauce. How hard is it to just bring out everything together? I have to ask you after 10 minutes into my meal, I don’t even want it anymore afterword. The only thing they got right was the salad and white rice, how depressing is that. Anyone can make that! I am usually very lenient when it comes to food and service, but how can you mess up so many times in one order? I do not think it’s reasonable for anyone to pay $ 16 for that junk. Worst experience ever, I will never come back here again and will warn my friends to never come here! Overall, 1 star for service, 0 for food, don’t even want to bother mentioning about other things! Just don’t even bother to come here.

Overpriced generic sushi, ewwwwwwww… I was craving sushi for a few days now and my sister and decided to try this spot. The food was just mediocre nothing stood out, the waitress couldn’t suggest a good specialty roll, we sat at the sushi bar and the sushi chef didn’t even acknowledge us. A simple«hello» would have been suffice but we weren’t even worth that. The spicy tuna roll had a little kick to it and the other rolls were all just ok. I thought our tab was a little high 2 beers, 1 sake, 2 spicy tuna rolls and 2 house roll and our bill was about $ 80. We could have gotten better quality sushi elsewhere for a faction of the price. I won’t be returning.

I always shop at this mall and I see this place every time. For some reason I never walked in but today my wife felt like eating sushi. Walking in, this place looks clean but I quickly found out the opposite. Normally I Unilocal anywhere before I eat, but for some dumb reason I failed to. We were sat down by a waiter who was initially professional and very polite, ordered one shrimp tempura roll for the wife just to start along with some waters and vegetable egg rolls. When the egg rolls came in I ate them because I eat just about anything, but my wife started to claim they smelled like fish. I’ll be honest, I’m not the best listener but I should have listened! The shrimp tempura roll came in and as I ate the first piece I kept hearing my wife repeat in the background, «These egg rolls smell like fish baby!» I was thinking she was tripping… men, you guys know what I mean. Next thing you know she’s like, «There’s a hair!» By then I looked up and I was like, «Say again?» As I looked up I see her spit out the sushi and start pulling what looked like a pubic hair stuck in her already«mulched» sushi. I called a waiter over who was serving another table… the same waiter than had sat us at our table. I didn’t want make a scene and as polite as I could be under these circumstances I told him that our roll had a hair. He grabbed the plate and couldn’t find it so I had to point it out which to us ofcourse wasn’t a big deal but everything that happened after made the entire vsit there the worst I have ever experienced in any restaurant. He looked at me then at the hair a couple of times. I really don’t know what he was trying to accomplish by not immediately jumping towards a resolution, it was almost as if he was thinking we bothered planting the hair there. We didn’t want to eat anything else so I asked our actual waiter for our bill… I assume anyone would feel the same way. The waiter came with the bill and on it was still the charge on our unfinished roll. I asked him, «Are you guys taking this off or planning on making us another roll?» He replied something similar to, «They’re gonna make you another one but the kitchen is backed up so it’s going to take a while.» I really don’t know why they would bother making another one as if we would eat it but I decided to stick around to see how this place would handle all this. Initially I didn’t notice but the manager of this place was going back and forth to one same table and chatting with a guest. Not once did he bother to personally get involved with the situation. I didnt mention this earlier, but we took our two kids(4 yr. old and 1 yr. old) and by the time 15 — 20 min passed, we decided to start walking out since they were getting frustrated. As we walked out I saw our waiter had just put our replacement roll into a bag and placed it on the counter. We continued to walk towards him and when we got close to him he handed us the bag. Behind him were about two other waiters and the manager whom glanced at us here and there… but none took the time to apologize for the bad experience. The waiter we had was nice and polite to us throughout the situation, but I blame him for not forcing the manager to at least apologize for the issue. I’m sure many may ask, «Why didn’t you tell the manager? Maybe he didn’t know.» If he didn’t know it was because he was too focused on entertaining a specific guest two tables from us whom he was enjoying a nice big cold cup of Sapporo with while on the job. I wasn’t going to write a review but I decided to because I read the review written by an unfortunate person who went to the hospital. It could have been and could possibly still be me. It’s only been a little under two hours since I left this place and I’m writing this review as my stomach turns. It’s full of knots from the disgust I was left with. I now know that those vegetable egg rolls must have been contaminated with other foods, probably raw fish and who knows what else.

Pros: I love this spot! The sushi is always fresh and the prices aren’t bad(especially during the lunch special. The gangster roll is one of my favorites. Areas for improvement: You have to ask for a soy sauce bowl and extra plates(if you’re sharing). It would be nice if those were on the table with the chop sticks instead of the customer having to ask for them. Also, during dinner(when it’s busy), the service could be improved. We asked the girl who brought out the sushi for plates, and she never brought them out. However, once we asked our waiter, we got them quickly. Overall, this is a great spot! The sushi is delicious. Definitely the best tasting in the area!

I enjoyed this place for the past 2 years I eat here 1 – 2 time a week and have always been pleased with the service and sushi rolls! The tiger roll is fantastic! The seared tuna sashimi with garlic ponzu is excellent! The Macho Man roll is truly unique! And the garlic edamame is always freshly made for order! The monster roll quickly becoming a favorite! And the service is quick and polite! It does get busy on weekends because it is that good! Waiting time won’t exceed 10 – 15 minutes plus they will call your cellphone when table is ready while you stroll around and shop!

Always come to eat here after I’m done with my shopping at Macy’s. Lunch prices are great and the food is well served. Staff is always helpful but during a lunch rush don’t expect them to give you perfect service. Overall the tasty food makes up for the customer service.

Good prices on a lot of items. Great service– all wait staff are very diligent and friendly. Most sushi items are fresh– I had tuna, albacore, yellowtail, and salmon. Can’t complaint for what I paid. I’m giving three stars because this is not your exquisite kind of sushi bar. You can tell by the way fish is cut. The knife work says everything about the level of expertise of the chef.

The food was good, the prices were good, BUT the service was horrible. You can expect to be ignored, forgotten, and slow service. Went here with some friends and we ordered a drink, the waitress came back with a beer… We didn’t order the beer and asked her to take it back but since it was open she had to charge us for it. That was the first strike, secondly we order a sushi roll that comes out on fire(I forgot what it’s called) and they completely forgot about our order! Thirdly we would have to raise our hand and hold it up in the air for at least 4 minutes until someone noticed we needed service. To sum it up… Food was delicious, prices were cheap, but the horrible service didn’t really make up for it in my opinion. I should’ve just kept the need if she was gonna charge us for it –_–
