Harmony SPA of Monterey Park

Its been several months now and this place is still not open! Even though I received a response to my review apologizing and saying they would be open on January 18^th. Maybe they meant January 18^th of 2017…

The massage was really rough. The price was appealing. Typical of these types of places. Friendly faces. Had a private room and the lady doing my massage was a little too rough and was panting the entire time… Which didn’t allow me to relax. Wasn’t sure if she was trying to hurt me or help me. I don’t think I’ll be back. It was too rough for my taste. Although this might have been my experience with this particular woman.

I’m very upset with my experience today I took my mom for her birthday and the massage was not good for myself or her. The restrooms were filthy as well as the room were the massages were given. What made me the most upset was that we gave a tip and this person demanded my mom to give her more! What was supposed to be a great relaxing visit resulted in disaster. I felt so embarrassed that I brought my mother here where she was pressured to give a 20 dollar tip. She was nice enough to give a tip on top of what I was already paying. I left this place furious because they made my mom feel so uncomfortable and myself!!! Will never come to this place again!!!

I had great experience. My friend & I decided to get a massage. This has been our first massage ever. Service was great. The guy at the front desk was very welcoming, even tho we interrupted his dinner session at his desk. We called at 8:50pm to schedule an appointment for that night and they scheduled us for 9:30pm which was great!
When he walked us in to the massage room I did not know what to expect. It is October (Halloween mo.) and did not know what was going to happen in the next room lol (remember this is our first time in a place like this) It was a dark room with soft music playing in the back ground and 12 massage tables/​chairs with pretty black and white printed linens & pink towels. Cute!
Massage starts by sitting, soaking your feet in a bucket with water that was almost 150 degrees. She had to add so much cold water to make it comfortable, but even then it was still super hot. Then she works on you shoulders. Begins by stabbing u with elbows OUCH! It was kinda painful as she worked down to my mid back. As she continued it got a little better. She then had me lay back on the bed, brought some worm pads and placed one on my neck and one on my lower back. She started with massaging my head. That felt way better that the elbows in my shoulders. Went down to my arms, where she was using her elbows again on my fore arm thinking she was going to stop circulation on my veins from passing blood of the pressure and length she was applying. Then she worked down to the feet. That was the best part. She delivered a great foot massage. Then climbs on top of the table to give your thighs a massage. Turns you around and starts with the shoulders again works her way to the over back and climbs on you again. But when she climbs on you again it’s not just a little gentle climb, she jumps on your back with her knees. I just giggled! She uses he knees to crack and rub your back. I feel her knees up by my ears lol. Her knees then travel down to your butt. That was a little painful, she putt all her weight into it.
Did not appreciate the fact that she looked at her tip amount as I places it in her hand. I tipped great I think. I mean idk if it was great for her but it was great for me. $ 10 should buy lunch.
Sounds like am complaining or didn’t have a great experience but it was very relaxing. Great 1^st time experience. Then they bring a green tea for you after your massage.

Just got a massage just now from here. The massage was mediocre, so I only tipped 25% on a $ 39.00 groupon massage, meaning I tipped $ 9.00. When I tried tipping the massage therapist by politely giving her a tip, she reported me to the business owner for not tipping her more/​enough. I walked out to the front counter, and suddenly, had some serious **** that went on — because all the fact I was not tipping enough. The business owner wasn’t happy because I was only tipping his employee a 25% tip. Had a serious confrontation with the business owner and massage therapist about not tipping enough. They wanted $ 20.00, despite I was tipping 25%. WTF. That’s a 55% tip they’re asking. I have never tipped anybody that much in my life, anywhere — including at restaurants, barbers, other massages and etc. Heck, I only tip my barber 15%. If it was a great massage, the most I could have given the person 40% tip. But 25% tip for a half ass massage (because I was clipped by 15 minutes massage time for a 60-​minute full-​body massage, massage therapist was just annoyed by slamming pieces of her massaging oil equipment, etc) was pretty generous.
Won’t be coming back. First time and will be my last time. Shady business owner. I even pre-​paid and to ask for more was weird. It wasn’t like I didn’t pay. Total scandalous place. Tip is not mandatory. I don’t have to tip you anything. I was being generous. Don’t treat customers like this like some kind of crap. I was literally at the front counter getting my wallet milked by the business owner, as he was looking through how much cash had in my wallet. Good thing I had only $ 9.00 on me, else he would have been milking for more. No wonder this place is not 4 stars. :\. Had better service elsewhere.
edit: just read other Unilocal reviews. Oh man, so it wasn’t just me. Others are also complaining these people have the balls to demand more tip than they deserve — like this one person saying she was demanded to tip $ 10.00 on top of what she already paid for a $ 25.00 massage. What the hell is this place???

Wish I would’ve known the difference between «foot massage» ($ 15) and «combo» ($ 20) before I came here. Unlike other cheap Chinese reflexology places they have a difference between the two:
The foot massage starts off with your foot being soaked in a tub of warm water and salt while they massage your upper back only while sitting up. They don’t do your lower back, turn you around and do your thighs, calves and triceps. Whereas the «combo» is the regular foot massages at other places.
Massage– I had a lady and she had the techniques down but it just wasn’t enough pressure. I asked her to go harder but it just wasn’t there. She was gone twice for a long period of time to get lotions, towels etc. A lot of elbow used on my arms… ouch!
Noise level– quieter than other places in SGV but not silent. Oh well, at least they try!
Space– looks clean and nice recliners
Service/​payment– my masseuse and receptionist spoke English, which was great! I was able to make an appt easily! I wish someone told me the difference between the two! I would’ve paid $ 5 more for the combo. Also, make sure to BRING CASH! They charge you $ 4 dollars… which is absolutely ridiculous!!! I had to tip less because I didn’t expect that $ 4 charge. Such a rip off!
Would I come back here? Probably not… there’s so many other reflexology massage parlors around there’s no need to come back again. I was pretty annoyed with the false advertisement for the «foot massage», the mediocre massage and the $ 4 credit card charge.

Went in and made a same day appointment for 630 at around 5pm. I stayed in the parking lot to do work until my massage appt. I get a call at 6:17 that they will be 20 – 30 min behind schedule. The lady asked if I had already received a call, since she took over the shift. I obviously had not.
When I came in at 5 p.m. there was only one masseuse working on one client while there were two people in the back talking for an hour. I will not be back here.

The massage itself was great. It was affordable and the therapist did an excellent job.
The problem was the front desk receptionist. She seemed angry at everyone who walked in the door for taking her away from her cell phone games. A couple walked in 10 minutes after me and were turned away for being «late». What is the problem with being late? There were no other customers waiting. This receptionist would not budge an inch to accomodate a paying customer.
At the end of the experience, this receptionist had the nerve to demand a $ 10 tip

I will say I was a bit skeptical of this place. I got a deal from Groupon & decided to finally use it. I came on a Wednesday about an hr after opening. Place was empty. They led me into the main room. Which has like 12 beds & I was kinda like umm… cuz I’m used to my own room. But based on Unilocal reviews I gave it a chance.
I’m glad I did. Bella was my masseuse & she was excellent. If you are some one who gets weirded out by anything different then don’t come here lol cuz they use all of their body weight to massage you. She climbed up on the table & everything. All in all I feel better & I’ll be back!

My massage here was so ridiculous that it was almost funny, but instead, it was painful.
In short, the masseuse mounted me to massage my butt with her knees. This sounds impressive and might have actually been good, but she was so inexperienced that she hurt me. When I realized that she was on the massage bed over me I had to really hold in my laughter because it was so bizarre.
She didn’t know what she was doing when she mounted the massage bed and I heard the other masseuse telling her what to do. Really? I should NOT be your guinea pig and you could have hurt me even more seriously. When she was getting off, her knee went down in between my thighs and it hurt so bad that I almost cried out.
I get massages about once a month because I sit at a desk all day. This was the first massage place that made me really regret spending my money here. My masseuse had very little strength when she used her hands and too much when she used her elbows and wrists. That did nothing to help with my shoulder pain! Also, she kept pulling at my hair which was pretty painful too.
If you are considering to come here, don’t! Not even if they offer a Groupon. There are so many other choices in the SGV.

SGV foot massages… it’s been too long. The wait was worth it.
The ambience is superb. There’s ambient lighting and ambient fire on the tv to match the instrumental overhead music.
The front desk receptionist Ian (speaks English) was really polite, friendly, and professional. He even offered me tea while I was waiting for my friend to arrive.
Linda was my masseuse… she’s a slender Asian, but she’s got strong arms and hands. She really kneads into all the knots. Afterwards, my whole body felt worked and sore … «ahhhh. That’s a good massage».
$ 20/​hr for combo foot/​body (+ tip) was so worth the price. I’m hooked and will be back after my body recovers.

I had a great experience the massage was great. The lady at the front was very nice and she accommodated me since I was 30 min early.
I felt so relaxed and after my session they gave me hot tea plus a fortune cookie!

I was there for back pain tonight after work. There was two problem with this place. Room temperature and sanity of the place.
It looks clean but i noticed that their towels were not too fresh in my opinion. The bed had some fabric on and i asked for extra towel. When i face down, i also noticed that the cover is not disposal. Hmm…
Please clean the room and the beddings. I got a little bites on my foot. It was itchy in the car so i scratched for few min.
The massage it self was not relaxing because it was kinda rough for me but i felt really good afterwards so i think i might come back.

For the past few days I’ve been feeling a lot of tension in my shoulders and back. Usually, a lot of sleep and water does the trick to get the body pain out but this time, it didn’t work. I managed to talk my best friend into getting a massage with me and she happily obliged.
Being that we’re pretty cheap when it comes to massages (hey don’t judge! We used to live in Manila where massages are $ 10 per hour INCLUDING tip at a fancy shmancy spot), we turned to Groupon and found a $ 25 deal that included a foot soak and full body massage for an hour. They accepted same day appointments which was superb and from there, it was heaven.
To my surprise, I didn’t have to strip down for this massage and we didn’t have a private room but DAAAAMN, despite their pretty forgettable foot soak which was pretty much a bucket of warm water with a DIY bath bomb to add minimal fizz, that massage made almost all the tension in my back disappear. Kiki — my masseuse was wonderful. She really paid attention to all my problem spots and took out the knots I had surrounding my shoulder blades.
Man, oh man I can’t wait to make Kiki my home girl and definitely can’t wait to go back. Seriously guys, if you are in need of a massage keep an open mind, get your groupon game on, purchase the voucher, book an appointment (ask for my girl Kiki, LOL) and give Harmony Spa a try. It’s totally worth it!

1^st time trying out Harmony Spa.
I had a great 1hr. full body massage for $ 30 and 1hr foot massage for $ 15.
It was one of the best I’ve had in a long time. The Vietnamese girl named Lily is very knowledgeable & experienced in the art and science of massage therapy. Extremely polite and professional. Pretty smile and a most important strong handed but yet softly soothing touch where needed.
I highly recommend Harmony. The place is very clean and quiet which is important to me when one pays for a soothing service.

I love massages! I’ve tried many places ranging from cheap $ 15 ones with untrained masseurs who may or may not wash their hands before giving you a massage to $ 100 ones at Korean spa where you lay on a lab table and get scrubbed like there’s no tomorrow. Then I found Harmony Day Spa of Monterey Park a year ago. Thanks to Unilocalers, I tried Kiki once and knew she was the one. Kiki consistently gives me the deep massages I need since I get crazy knots from grad school stress and rock climbing. Most of all, I have sweating problems! Kiki didn’t mind at all. She’d casually put on plastic gloves when she massages my sweaty feet. Do you know how touching that is? I seriously believe that finding THE masseuse is like finding your significant other. If you find her, stick to it. Maybe Kiki is not for you (my parents and friends say she’s just ok), but you have to try first.
Quality over quantity, guys. Private room. Full body massage. Kiki. Make an appointment. Knock out. Life is good again.

I have been getting massages on a fairly regular basis (1 — 2x per month for the past 8 years) but don’t give 5 star reviews for massages often as I am usually underwhelmed.
At $ 30 /​hour ($ 28 your first time if you check in on Unilocal), the massage I had with Bella was a great value for they money and it gets 5 stars for that. Thank you to the Unilocaler who recommended her!
Overall, I would rate the massage itself maybe a 7.5÷10 which is very high for me (95% of massages I get I would rate a 4 to ⁵⁄₁₀ or lower) but considering the whole experience, it is a ¹⁰⁄₁₀ experience if you take into account ambiance /​cleanliness, cost, and technique /​strength.
I am VERY picky when it comes to massages cause 98% of the time, they just aren’t strong /​deep enough for me. I work out 4 — 5 days a week and do 75% strength training, 25% cardio. Also, I sit in front of a computer 8 – 10 hours a day so my shoulders/​back/​neck are very TENSE /​tight and while I have many knots and lots of lactic acid build up, it seems that the majority of masseuses I’ve visited either a) have no technique and can’t find the right spots so just end up hurting /​bruising me cause they go too hard on all the wrong places or b) have no strength and don’t go deep /​strong enough to get the knots out. NOT the case here. She did start out at a medium pressure but asked if it was okay and when I said she could go a bit stronger, she definitely delivered.
My shoulders/​upper back actually felt significantly looser after the massage and there are only about 3 other masseuses that have ever been able to accomplish that for me.
++points for same day appointment availability. I called at about 1:30 on a Sunday and snagged an appointment for 4:00 PM the same day. I arrived a bit early and luckily she was able to take me early.
++points for actually massaging me for 1 hour and NOT jipping me on time. I hate when masseuses end 5 — 10 minutes early. I paid for 60 minutes of service, I want 60 minutes of service. Anyway, I checked the time on my cell right before we started (3:38) and right when we ended (4:39). She did go out briefly to get hot towels but that is standard at any spa /​massage place you go to.
Obviously, don’t come here if you’re looking for the foo foo and fluff of a high end spa with your infused waters and aromatherapy. This is NOT the place for that. However, it is a clean establishment with awesome massages and decent ambiance for a place in a Chinatown with dim lighting in the massage areas and you get a great bang for your buck. I’ve gotten massages everywhere from night markets in Taiwan to the Setai Wall Street spa in NYC and this is definitely one of the best.

I’m used to going to high end spas where you strip down, but when I was escorted to my room, naturally, I stripped down!
When the masseuse walked in, she coyly smiled and handed me a pair of disposable shorts, left the room and came back.
After that awkward moment, she got down to business and loosened my knots.
Lily. amazingly strong for such a petite person.
The service was top notched just like the high end spas and keep your drawers on!

Oh my lucky stars. And if I knew the lyrics to that song, I would… but I won’t. At long last I’ve found the spot worth my time and money!!!
The lady at the front desk was very kind and patient, and boy can she multi-​task because that phone would not stop ringing.
Robert was a Master. I am grateful for this company that is already highly rated on Unilocal. I am truly impressed with the skill and mastery of that is Robert. Writing this review right away was my last act before going to sleep for the next 10 hours!!!
And the stuff they used on me Biofreeze was quite AMAZING. While driving home, my shoulders and lower back was benefitting from the hot-​cold sensation running from my neck to my toes. Wow I am very relaxed and a happy customer.
