Delicious! The chicken and beef are always perfectly seasoned and cooked to just right. The rice too. And the portion sizes are so generous I eat half a plate for dinner and half for lunch the next day, satiated! I used to enjoy Ono Hawaiian BBQ when I lived in Riverside. There’s one across the street from this place, in the other shopping center. But it totally sucks; somehow they managed to make the food taste like something that would be served in a middle school cafeteria. I was surprised I didn’t notice their competition was only a few feet away for so many years. Glad I stumbled upon it.

i was craving chicken and decided to try this place out. The lady behind the counter said to get the value plate that had chicken, macaroni and rice. Food was OK, but had a stomach ache an hour later(tums ta-tums ta-tums!). Try at your own risk, but the Fros’ stomach said no more!

Man the service/food has really gone down hill from a few years ago. Chicken katsu was dry grilled chicken seemed somewhat bloody and raw and drinks stale with no gas. Better go across the street to the REAL«ono bawaiian bbq»

Love how they have brown rice option for .25 more. The chicken katsu is a lot more crisper here, however it may taste kind of bland some days. Its my go to hawaiian spot thats close to me. The service today could have been a bit more upbeat, the lady didnt look like she wanted to come into work today, which im sure we all can relate to, but still… put that game face on!

This isn’t the best Hawaiian food I have eaten ever, but it is comfort food. Chicken Katsu is very dry and they don’t give you much sauce! The loco moco is overwhelmingly starchy and salty. You should see the gravy pour over the loco moco, it’s too generous. Spam musubi lacks flavor as well. If you want an inexpensive heavy meal to fill you up, Hawaii Island Bbq is great! Just watch out for your sodium levels!

This place is great for a quick and delicious meal. I usually order it at least 3x a month lol. Call in if you wanna just pick it up, although I have eaten inside it isn’t the biggest. Customer service is always great!

All I have to say is BBQ chicken plate. That’s all u need to know. Ok I know that’s not much of a review but I’ll also say that I eat here regularly around once a week and I’m not too into Hawaiian food, that is the other options on the menu I’ve dipped into them occasionally along the years and always regret not getting the BBQ chicken plate. It’s simple but glorious! It’s practically two servings. I always save the left overs which hold up pretty well. I use to have a L&L near where I use to live and was devastated when it closed, I’ve tried lots of other Hawiian places and this is the best thus far, it taste just like the L&L I use to go to years back n maybe other dishes don’t compare but I wouldn’t know I get the same plate every time, I usually have a favorite plate at any given restaurant and BBQ chicken is it here… That is all.

I really do love most Hawaiian food, but this one was only ok and quite expensive. I think what really bothered me was that the bbq sauce that you serve yourself is cold. I adding this to my food. It should be warm and not so watery.

I am a fan of the most Hawaii BBQ places. In fact I usually get the mixed meat platter of goodness. Beef, chicken, and ribs. Also the mac is great. So why the poor review? The sauce man. I have been to other Hawaii BBQ places and they heat the sauce since it is thick and delicious. The sauce here, which makes the food that much better is like water. Watery sauce is weak sauce. So I have to rate this place a weak sauce 3 star. Till the sauce gets better I am going to keep on driving by.

Hawaii Island Bbq is located inside the Ralph’s shopping center. I stopped in and ordered the Volcano chicken which is chicken katsu with a sweet/spicy sauce. I had the sauce on the side as I do on most occasions. This prevents over-pours of sauces I don’t even care for. Service was prompt. Price was very reasonable. I paid $ 7.90 total for a huge portion of chicken. I opted for the salad instead of rice and mac salad.

Hawaii Island BBQ is above par fast food. The food portions are really big considering the price, which is an added bonus. We’ve been here about 4 – 5 times and the service and quality of food has been consistent. There is limited seating, but that’s not an issue because we usually take it to go. This place is very similar to L&L Hawaiian BBQ in both taste and price points. Pros: Hassle-free, decent prices, fast service Cons: Shared parking lot with Ralphs

In some circles, the HIB is one of the best hawaiian style bbq places around. And in my opinion, it is definitely better than L&L’s, Ono, and Shaka’s.
