I just moved to the area and found my comic shop! Nice selection of new and back issues. Knowledgeable staff. I was looking for something new. The staff made some great suggestions. I couldn’t be happier.

This place is very run down. They had a better setup a couple of years ago but now it’s just a shell of a comic store. They vey little in way of graphic novels and comic related toys or collectibles. Most of the single issue books look to be sun damaged. It looks as if the focus on Magic The Gathering cards instead of comics. I went with intention of purchasing some items but do to the lack selection I passed.

I moved up to Monterey from Southern California and was looking for a new comic shop. This seemed to be the only one in the area, so I checked it out. My first few encounters were disappointing to say the least. I had asked if they had a comic issue in stock that I was unable to find in the stacks. The guy working the counter was very rude to me as he looked in the computer and then said that they had it but he didn’t want to find it for me. I just ordered that issue online to save myself the hassle of dealing with this guy. The next few times I went to the store there was only one member of the staff that was nice or helpful, the rest were horrible to me and my friends. I would try to schedule my pick ups only when he was on shift. There was a time where two of my friends and I went in and my guy wasn’t at the counter and the guy at the counter made a joke about how us «girly girls» were only coming into the shop to get out of the rain. I looked and him and just kind of fake laughed and said«Actually, I am here to pick up my pull». He then cleared his throat and then tried to find it for about 30 seconds and said there was nothing there for me. Now, I am the kind of person who spends too much money on comics and I usually have about one to two issues in my pul at a time. I thought that was weird but said alright and was about to walk away, when my guy came out of nowhere. He looked at the other guy like he was an idiot and grabbed my comics for me. I thanked him bought my comics and left. On days when they have card tournaments it is almost impossible to get through to the stacks. There is a game shop a block or two away, Mythic Games. I feel as though those two stores can work together to decrease congestion in the comic shop and maybe hold other events to benefit both shops. It is really discouraging that this is one of the few comic shops in the area. The sexist and unaccomadating staff are the reason that my friends and I quit shopping here. We now buy them online or from my store down south, A Shop Called Quest.

Ive been to this shop a few times now so I am updating this review. Pros– The staff and owner are really great friendly and helpful. The selection of newer comics is good. They have card game events. They will order back issues for you if they can get them. Cons– Limited back issues on hand and Graphic novel section seemed a little thin although it seems to get better each time I go. With all that said I am glad we have a comic shop in Monterey and you should support these guys and buy some comics.

Went into this store with the intent of buying a few comic books. When I walked in there was a ton of space and very little inventory. I decided to walk around and see if I could find what I was looking for. After ten minutes of trying to figure out where specific comics were, I got a little frustrated and left. Seems like there’s a lot of potential for the store, but it was almost depressing when I walked in.

Some of the things I like aren’t comics they regularly carry but these guys special order my stuff and often suggest other comics I may be into. Happy to have a comic store in Monterey!

This store seems to cater to TCG players. Right when I walked in I noticed that the shop looked empty, and after browsing for maybe 10 minutes I realized my initial reaction was correct. It had a shelf for the current weeks comic books that came out, as well as a small selection of single comics. This place also had the current Magic the Gathering sets and some other card games. Overall, this shop’s inventory is for those looking for either new comic books or Trading Card Games. Not recommended if you’re looking to find anything other than that.

Unimpressive. Really small selection of random stuff. They definitely don’t keep their stock up to date(a lot of empty shelving). As for the staff, the guy behind the counter didn’t even say hello when I walked in. Out of the six current and popular titles I was looking for they had only one. These are titles that the handful of shops I visit back home carry. Overall a pretty lousy experience.

So these awesome reviews for this place is either bias or I am just spoiled by las vegas comic book stores. Cons: This store was empty. Ok, sure it’s Christmas week but if I went to my local stores in Vegas there would still be a ton of comics to choose from. Comic selection 2⁄5 Statues 0⁄5 Posters 0⁄5 Action figures/misc 2⁄5 Customer service: 3⁄5 he was helpful and nice. Cleanliness: 3⁄5 Boxes were dirty, unorganized. Disappointed. It’s a shame this is the only place to buy comics in Monterey.

Cool place for the comic nerd,(me). They have a little of everything I’d say even t-shirts. It’s not huge or close to comic con but it will do.

Super nice staff, knowledgeable and good selection. Didn’t play any games, but they have tables setup for a number of different board/card games and some people were having fun playing. Apparently you can’t write a short review on Unilocal so I’m just babbling now. But go here, good peeps!

The staff, collection of books(single issue and trade) are phenomenal. The service is pretty damn good and their knowledge of what’s in print and what’s canon for the comics is spot on. If you have any questions, they’re available to answer and act very professional, while also being personable. I’ve gotten almost all of my collection from here and they have pretty regular sales and promotions. I highly recommend this location as well as the one in Salinas if you’re closer to that one.

Great staff, store is organized, not too flashy. My favorite comic store yet. Only one thing; they tend to sell out of the good comics pretty fast.

The dude that manned the register/desk was great. He was very willing to help me find the comic I was looking for and even helped make change so my friend could pay for the parking meter. There’s a decently large stock of ‘current’ comics here and they have older back issues too, which is always nice. Also, I spied some boxes of older comics, which is awesome if thats’s your thing. The layout of the shop was nice. They had a lot of cool stuff to look at. And as far as I was concerned, organization wise, I was able to find my Batwoman comic easily and I left this shop happy. All in all, a nice place to stop by.

Pretty small store and not as much merch/comics as I’ve seen at previous stores but hey, I left with some awesome goodies.

Current Comics is a good little locally owned comic shop. They make me look forward to Wednesdays and seeing what comics came out. Once you’ve come into the shop a couple of times the staff recognize you and will greet you by name. The staff are friendly and very helpful

I paid a visit to this location while on vacation in Monterey. The staff is very attentive and polite but there just isn’t anything that comes out to grab the customer. The layout is a bit segmented and scattered but not in a way that invites you to explore. You think you’re missing something but you’re not. There are tons of action figures behind two glass displays but they’re all knocked over and their not for sale. That’s a waste of shop space. I’m sure they can get/order whatever you want, especially if you’re a regular customer. It could be a more inviting and organized place.

I don’t really know what the comic book scene is like in Monterey, CA but I’m hoping that it isn’t limited to Current Comics. This place is small, and no, not in the quaint kind of way. Upon my visit, I saw mostly new(er…current) comics and a ton of that awful 13 year old fetish manga. Being the nerd that I am, a nice selection of graphic novels and a good back issue stock are vital in a comic book store, so sadly, I must give this place 2.5 stars. I will however, round up because they were a local shop. If they were a nation-wide or corporate chain, they’d get a 2.
