I will never stay here again, and I would never recommend it to somebody else unless I didn’t like them. Seriously! The experience was just terrible. The lights in our room were broken. The carpet was stained all over the place. The TV was broken. Our room had no alarm clock. No. Don’t go here.

BEWARE… DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL… YOU’LL REGRET IT LIKE I DID!
Booked a room for a two night stay and when I presented my Red Roof VIP Pass for a free night they knew nothing about how it works. I called Red Roof Corporate (who were very helpful) and in turned they called the Manager/​Owner who said he would «take care of it upon my check-​out». Bottom line, at check-​out time, I ended up arguing with the Manager for over an hour trying to resolve this. All he cared about was how he was going to be paid and all this was happening right in front of other guests! Very cheap, my final bill was printed out on the back of a flyer and the second page was printed on another guest’s receipt who stayed there in 2011. It even had her credit card number and signature on it! I noticed another reviewer stayed here recently and said instead of rennovating the place they should tear it down. I totally agree, since there is construction going on all over the place. I couldn’t even park in the lot since the workers are taking up all the space. The manager is rude, the lobby smells of cooked food, the TV is not a 32″ LED, it’s probably closer to 19″ and is one of the older clunky models (the second night my TV was programmed in a Spanish and I couldn’t change it since the remote only adjusted the volume). When I tried calling the office, the phone wasn’t even working (noticed this on the first night but thankfully I had my cell phone) .The toilet backed up on me numerous times (they have a plunger conveniently placed right next to it). I requested an upper floor and was put on the first floor and heard the guest above me walking around all night. The so called continental breakfast looked like it consisted of dried cereal and coffee. Need I say more… I certainly could but I’m saving it for my letter to the President at Red Roof Corporate.

This place was awful. I understand that it’s under new management, and that there are changes that are happening, but there are a few things that an «under new management» sign shouldn’t effect.
–Customer Service.
The manager/​front desk guy was extremely rude to my friend and I. We were there for the Big Sur Marathon and we were very excited to be up there. He killed that for us quickly. We couldn’t check in early like we were hoping, because our room wasn’t ready yet. I guess the cleaning lady comes in later on Saturdays.
When we told him there was going to be three of us, instead of two, he charged us an extra $ 10 for the extra person. Even though, right on our reservations it said we were able to have up to 4 people in a room. I’ve never been charged extra like that, and I’ve been going to many hotels in my 30 years.
Then, we asked if we could have a late checkout, because we would like to come home and shower after the run, before we got into a car to drive 9 hours back home. He said no, because the cleaning lady will be there before we are back. I was confused by that. We couldn’t do an early check in because the cleaning lady came in late… I thought.
We came back from walking around all day in Big Sur, I forgot what room we were in. We never unpacked our stuff, so I hadn’t been to the room yet. When I walked into the front desk area to ask, he came from around back and said, «What do you want». My mouth dropped. I’ve never been spoken to like that.
TV wasn’t working, when we called the front desk at 8:30, no one answered. We called about 7 times, every 5 mins. Never got an answer.

The bathroom was a dump. There was hair and tape on the wall.
TV didn’t work, just came up with snow. Trust me, we tried everything to get it to work. Wasn’t going to happen.
I would never, ever go to this hotel again!

Made my reservation online and got a single queen room for $ 55.00 (including tax.)
Pro’s
–Within walking distance of fairgrounds and restaurants
–Microwave and fridge in room
–Very inexpensive
Cons
–Front desk has odd hours (no overnight service)
–Continental breakfast (coffee/​pastries) is served late and very sparse
–Décor needs updated and linens are cheap and flimsy
I would recommend this for budget conscience families or people who are attending an event at the fairgrounds. It’s too far from most Monterey attractions to make it a good choice for a vacation hotel.

This Place is a RIPOFF!
We just tried to check in at the rate that I reserved the room for on ⁸⁄₂₅ via email and a phone call to the place yesterday 9/09.When we arrived they tried to charge me $ 40.00 more during check in! They also would not honor my Discount Card that I have been using for years that I got from Americas Best. I had a printed confirmation via email PLUS I had called there twice prior to arrival, last time was YESTERDAY and confirmed the price… the owner (at least she said she was) Jenna, would not honor the PRINTED CONFIRMATION price I had in hand that stated the price of the room clearly, she absolutley refused and then refused to rent a room to me. DO NOT go there, I guess they think that once you are there you are «stuck» with it… too bad, we got a better room for LESS than the inflated price they were trying to charge me 2 blocks away. I am not done with these rip-​offs yet…

This is giving credit! Terrible Terrible Terrible! America’s Best Value Inn sooo not! We wanted to stay in Monterey another night but for some reason, this was the only place that had TWO vacancies in the whole Monterey, Carmel, Seaside area. They charge $ 250 for a king size room with a jacuzzi. Bad ventilation (there has to be mold in this place), rusted sinks, rough dwarf sized towels, a struggling toilet, sheets that make you itch and not so sound proof walls! On top of that, the clerk didn’t want to give us a discount even though she had us rushing through town to book this place in person b/​c she couldn’t do it over the phone only to find that it was booked before we arrived. Plus they advertise «AAA approved» which isn’t discounted on the weekends which we found out the next day! WTF? They could’ve honored it for customer service reasons but NO!!! DON’T RENT FROM HERE so that they have to bulldoze it!

The hotel is quite old. They put same price on single queen and double queen room: $ 86.90. The single queen room has a separated room with sofa and refrigerator+microwave by the room entry.
I was really disappointed that they don’t provide water cooker to make hot beverages.
The service is really minimalist, the breakfast is in the lobby, you can’t call it breakfast because they only provide pastries and coffee and that’s all.

America’s Best Value is not America’s best value. We stayed here after we couldn’t get a room for a second night next door at Lone Oak Lodge (which is a quality establishment!)
The only room that was open was the «Hot Tub» room for $ 250 a night. It’s tiny and kind of skanky. Clearly they haven’t updated the décor since 1971. No DVD player like Lone Oak next door. Roughly 2′ of walking space around the bed.
This place isn’t terrible, but far from worth the money, even if it was in SF or NY.

Stayed here for the 2006 Jazz Festival. I thought I had made a reservation for the Lone Oak Lodge, the place next door that I prefer.
There were a few good things about this place:
— walking distance to the fairgrounds
— relatively friendly service
— good amount of room space & storage
— microwave & mini-​fridge in room
** even though everyone else in the vicinity is asking for a pound of flesh to park on their 3’x10’ patch of ground, they actually let our friends park here for free — even though we already had our own car parked in a space… I don’t just mean we got away with it; I actually asked them specifically and they told me it was cool
Otherwise I wasn’t very impressed with:
— only one staff person when we checked in, during what must be their busiest weekend on the year
— what toiletries they had were totally generic
— flimsy linens
— old TV had poor picture quality and the remote didn’t work
— no staff available overnight
So, the place isn’t terrible. Actually, not even all that bad. But I won’t make a point of returning.
