Two store clerks were too busy on their iPhones and gossip about customers to help us out. That’s OK, RiteAid in the next parking lot had a better selection of greeting cards and gift bags with actual customer service.

As a long time customer, since this shopping center was built, I am more than disappointed to see that it’s current Franchise owner(Goldie) has taken it to new lows! I just received a crown rewards certificate with the information that this store is no longer participating in the crown rewards program, and that the closest one that is would be the 41st Ave, Capitola Hallmark store. Great! so now we have no hallmark store on the Monterey Peninsula at all! I truly feel that this has been a Hallmark store in name only for quite some time and does not deserve to have the Hallmark name in it’s logo! When it was really«KC’s Hallmark»…many years ago it was a top rated Hallmark store. Now it is nothing more than a curio shop with numerous outdated cards that Goldie puts in the back room every year and than restocks for next years’s Holidays. They are shop warn, and musical ones have dead batteries. As one reviewer wrote, they never have the appropriate Holiday cards out until right before the holiday! I went in to buy Christmas cards this past holiday period when all other stores had all of the new stock out. Goldie just had her last year stock out! One of the new clerks told me that they just had not gotten them out of the back room yet. Another reviewer mentioned a senior employee following you around(I call it stalking) and pointing out various items to you that she wants you to purchase. I, like this reviewer, feel this not only unnecessary, as most people already know what they want or can browse themselves, but intimidating to be pursued by the person who actually is the owner. It does not make for a pleasant shopping experience This store had a wonderful staff for years, however this owner/manager has driven them all off because of stress caused by this stores Mode of Operation. I and others have made numerous complaints to Hallmark and their so called area manager, however it is quite apparent that they do not care that the Hallmark name is being trashed by this Owner/Managers ineptness. The new staff hasn’t got a clue! As for me… color me GONE! I for one will never set foot in this shop again! American Greeting Cards which are readily available on the entire Monterey Peninsula, have surpassed my old standby of Hallmark Cards in quality and selection… and, at a much more realistic price than that of Hallmark’s overly inflated line. As a card store goes they have a pretty decent selection of cards however I almost never find a card for a stepmother. You can’t tell me that with almost half of the marriages on the US ending on divorce that there would not be a market for these cards but this is probably more Hallmarks issue than this particular store. But here are my issue with this store. 1. almost always have a significant wait to purchase an item. usually under staffed. But the last time I was in there was a police officer taking a complaint about bounced paychecks so this could be the issue. It was also supremely tacky for the 2 clerks who were working to do this on the job 2. Not the best about reducing merchandise. At Valentines day they still had a ton of Christmas items only marked down 50 percent. If it has not sold by the 2nd week in January give up. Use the shelf space for new things that might actually sell

KC does not provide gift wrapping service. That they pop up with offering that service each time I browse the web is misrepresenting that they offer the service. Do not bother if you have gifts that need wrapping and want someone other than yourself to do it.

I was fairly impressed by this place! Needed a very specific card the other day and thought that this should be the meca of all kinds of cards — and it was! The ladies at the shop were very friendly! They dropped their Christmas decorations they were unpacking to help! Lots of trinkets in this place too! If you’re looking for a little something for your grandma this is your 1 stop shop! I will be back again for my grandma’s and also for very special specific cards.

I guess you can’t really expect more from a Hallmark Store. I was actually pretty impressed to see that in addition to wrapping materials and cards, they had an extensive selection of doo-dads and nick-nacks for gifts. I had a slightly frustrating experience because it took me about 5 minutes for the woman to ring up my order. But I think it was just an honest mistake, and then she was trying to be careful the second time around. Just be sure to look at the prices on the wrapping paper an stuff. Those materials can add up quickly!
