If you enjoy searching for lost treasure, then this is the place for you. There are tons of records throughout the store. It looks cluttered, but that adds to the experience of finding what you want in the midst of chaos.
The staff is funny, attentive, and down to earth.
Sections of music are clearly marked by genre and the prices are fair.

Checked this place out while walking along Lighthouse Ave and was so happy that I did! There was an amazing collection of rare LPs that are so hard to find at most record stores. The staff was super friendly too. I would definitely recommend this place to any record collector visiting the Monterey Bay!

Awesome place. If you want some nostalgia are into vynl this is the place to go. They use to be on Cannery Row way before the Aquarium. They take trade ins.

This place had so much vinyl, I didn’t know what to do with myself! Got a Bouncing Souls/​Anti Flag EP I have been wanting forever. My girlfriend got herself some awesome stuff from Joy Division and Nirvana. The albums are all fairly priced, about expected for retail. Vinyl isn’t cheap.
I found an Audio-​Technica turntable in the corner after some browsing. They are worth about $ 150 on the eBay market. It was marked at just $ 99. I thought there might be an issue, but I am using it now and it works like new. It felt good to come to Monterey just for a fun day with my girlfriend and find such an awesome little shop.
The employee was pretty laid back and wasn’t overly talkative, but he was very helpful and polite. We shared a love of video games, which was cool.
Anyways, go here if you are looking for vinyl in just about any genre. I found so much random stuff, it was hard to pick just one.

When I was a teenager, my dream job was to work in a record store, and be surrounded by vinyl 8 hours a day. Going to Recycled Records brings me back to those days of flipping through vinyl records and spending what little money I could stash away on my growing record collection.
This is not a go in and get a CD/​Record and leave sort of place. Its a place where patience and persistence pays off and you spend an hour flipping through the bins inhaling the aroma of vinyl and cardboard. A recent visit offered up a NIN remix I didn’t have and a Dave Edmunds record I didn’t know I needed :). The stock changes weekly and you never know what you might find on any given day.
Its always an enjoyable place to spend an hour or two. And btw, I still want to work in a record store…

This is my go to record store when I’m in Monterrey. It is small, but they play good music and have a good selection. They don’t Have many 78 record albums, which is a minus, but if you need 33’s and 45’s then come here. The reason why i gave this store minus one star is because i went to the record store looking at a Gene Autry 78’s record album. It was a buck/​record. I went back a few months later, but then it was 2 bucks a record. I still got it for a dollar more, but still, why did the prices increase. Also, regarding Aaron’s review, The 1 dollar records are 1 dollar for a reason. They obviously are not worth more, so to the beginning collector, its perfect. Overall, come here if you like records, and save some time.

Aug 22: I added a star because 78 record album prices decreased it seems. Still recommend coming here for your Vinyl needs and wants.

Nothing special about this place. New stuff was priced high, used stuff was priced high for its condition. Price gouging on «popular» stuff like Pink Floyd and Beatles.

Its been under new ownership for about a year now. Since then, I’ve noticed two major detractors:
A. The prices for records have exponentially increased.
— Part of the charm of buying vinyl in the era of iTunes is that its cheap. I can’t describe the feeling that washes over me when upon finding my favorite 10cc album priced at a measly $ 1.99. If you’re gunna make me pay $ 7.99, I might as well buy the digital version. This need serious consideration if you are to remain in business.
B. The selection of quality music is poor.
No one wants any record found in on your $ 1.00 menu. This includes the catalogs of Marshall Tucker Band, The Carpenters, Peter Frampton, the Captainand Tennille, etc.

Good selection at good prices. Their $ 1 bins were full of pretty good stuff and there were even more tucked under the regular shelves to go through. They are also 14 for $ 10 if you happen to find more. Their regular vinyl ranged in prices from $ 2-​$ 12 for used and of course the usual $ 20 – 30 retail for brand new vinyl. The girl behind the desk was very nice during the checkout.

Don’t know where/​how to start. This place is just fantastic.
Of course it helps that I’m a vinyl junkie, but I still have expectations, and Recycled Records has little to no trouble meeting them. First off, you enter the palace, and it you immediately notice that classic record store vibe you want and love. Small, but packed, something classy playing over the speakers, and an older man greeting you immediately. The mood is set, now time to dig.
Great, classic selection, just what you’d expect. On the right side wall are what seem to be the newer releases, highly convenient and a great treat if that’s what you’re looking for. Lot’s of Beatles memorabilia around the whole store, which as a Beatlemaniac, I laud!
Of course like most local record stores, Hip Hop is mostly ignored, a big bummer, but just the other day I found a remastered, 2-​LP version of Notorious B.I.G’s «Ready to Die» which was the last thing I expected to find there. Add that to the Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab edition of «Pinkerton» by Weezer, and you have one satisfied customer. I wish the 831 had more record shops, especially in Salinas, but this will do!
Oh and everyone that works there is extremely friendly and helpful, can’t ask for much else!

Nice gems, friendly staff. decent prices. I was pleasantly surprised to hear a radio ad for recycled records, in fact, it was the ad that let me know they are there since I’m not super familiar with Monterey. I really dig the vintage atmosphere, and I walked away with a nice stack of soul, 60s rock, and a few oddball oddities. yay for recycled records!

The guy working [not sure if he is the owner, but he gave off that vibe] reminded me of Comic Book guy on the Simpsons. [I don’t mean that as a put down, just an observation] He seemed like he’d be a cool person to have a conversation with. Someone with some good stories.
Anyways, nice little shop. wish there were more of them around. glad we were able to pop in after eating at the Bulldog pub.

Decent used record store. Given it’s small size they have a decent selection and average prices. The one thing that really got me is that there was no music playing. It’s a friggin’ record store! Play some music! Where’s my funky atmosphere?!

I have been coming here for the past 20+ years. Great collection of vinyl and I have been more of a buyer than a seller. Items are priced fairly and much better than any retail outlet. Plus, if you’re looking for that long forgotten album or CD, this is the place to check out first. Owner is great and I love talking stories about the music and the people behind the scenes that make it happen. It is safe tp say that my knowledge about the Blues, Rock, 60’s genre comes mainly from this store.

I spend way too much money at Recycled Records. This is due in part to their prices being a little high at times, but even if they were brought down to what I think is fair, I’d still spend way too much money here, so excellent is the selection. I mean, it’s not so good that you’re going to find the record you’re looking for necessarily. But if you appreciate music and have an open mind, you can go in there once a week and find four or five awesome albums to add to your collection, and it’ll cost you about twenty to thirty bucks. This is exactly what I do, just about every Saturday.
On top of this, Sean, the owner, is a very friendly guy, and the location is great. Highly recommended. If the prices were a little lower or the selection a little awesomer, it’d be five stars for sure. Maybe one day…

I went looking for country vinyl. I left with country vinyl.
Not the greatest haul ever but the records we’re priced to sell and fun to dig through. A little too much standard stock and a little high priced on the modern (‘80s/‘90s) stuff but, for the most part, when you find something you want you can walk out happy.

My number two record store on my Monterey Record Store hit list. I browsed the store for a bit, finding a lot of great music. I noticed that the shop was a lot cleaner than Vinyl Revolution; by clean I mean more walking space. Knowing I could do a cartwheel without breaking anything, it seemed like there wasn’t as much of a selection as Vinyl, but I feel like both record shops have different tastes in music.
I looked though the store and found a lot of music that was different from the other shop; not that there’s anything wrong with that. It’s a nice little shop that may help you find the album you’ve been looking for, but it depends on what kind of music your into. (See other Unilocaler for genre types).
I say check out both local shops, and you won’t be disappointed.

This place really reminded me of a San Francisco kind of business. That is what I liked about it. Super groovy and laid back people who worked here. I don’t have an LP, but going here made me want one. They had Cd’s, cassettes and DVDs for sale. It is a cool place to at least walk into.
