Spa on the Plaza

I booked a shellac manicure because everyone always talks about it lasting forever. I decided to treat myself and go to a nicer place. So glad I did. Stephanie was excellent! She paid special attention to my horrible cuticles and gave me a nice hand massage. She also handed me the file she used on me at the end of my shellac service. I do a lot of gardening in my yard and these nails still look good.

Notch. I arranged a sports 50 minute massage and had him go in early to enjoy the sauna and steam room and jacuzzi. All for Father’s Day for Skye’s dad

Came here for a spa day with my friend and we are totally enjoying ourselves! Spa on the plaza is so relaxing and a great way to destress! My massage therapist was very in tune with all the places I said I needed work on prior to the massage. I could feel her working out all the kinks in my shoulders until they eventually melted away:) On top of my amazing massage that facility has a relaxation room with hot tea and magazines and an outside heated pool and jacuzzi that you can order room service from. Such wonderful day me and my friend are so happy with our spa experience :)

MY WHOLE FIRST EXPERIENCE HERE WAS JUST PERFECT!!!
Me and my BF celebrated our two year anniversary and decided to come to Monterey to relax at this spa, and we are SO glad we did!
When we first arrived we were greeted at the front desk by Anna. She was so friendly and pleasant and immediately showed us to our lockers so we could get ready for a hot tub and one hour massage session.
The hot tub room was nice; it had a shower, a table shower, and a nice clean hot tub with color changing lights inside. I like this hot tub because the water was fresh water, not ongoing recycled chlorine smelling water. The hot tubs were definitely relaxing before the massage.
As for the massage, my masseuse named Venice and my bf’s masseuse named Robin were so warm and welcoming. Venice made sure I was comfortable under the sheets and not cold or too warm. As for my massage, it’s no doubt the BEST massage I’ve had! She focused on my target spots– my shoulders, back, and hamstrings. I really enjoyed the hot stone portion of my massage, I didn’t want t to end! It definitely helped ease and soothe the knots in my back. She gave such a good quality massage I could tell Venice definitely knew what she was doing.
Me and the BF actually wanted to go for a run from the wharf to lovers point and then come here after, but traffic didn’t allow us to do that. So instead, we got our massage and asked Anna if it was ok to go for a run after our massage and come back to go in the steam room and take a shower after and she kindly said yes with no hesitation. This was probably the highlight of our spa experience, that we loved or massage so much that we didn’t want to leave but we still got to come back and enjoy their spa amenities.
Their ladies lounge is EXTREMELY clean and well kept: fully stocked towels, slippers, robes, feminine products, clean showers, and a clean steam room. The cleanliness of the place made my first experience here that much better.
At the end of our spa day, Anna validated our parking voucher for 4 hours! We didn’t even have to end up paying the extra hour at the garage because the gate was left open. That was a plus :)
Overall, Our experience here at Spa on the plaza is EXACTLY what a so experience should feel like– quality services– from the front desk, to the masseuses, to the amenities, basically from the minute we stepped in here to the moment we stepped out was like a mini day escape. Their prices are definitely a little more expensive than other places, but with the experience you get here it is TOTALLY WORTH IT.
Me and my BF will definitely be coming back here every so often to come enjoy a relaxing day at the spa. I cannot stress enough how glad we are that we found this GEM of a spa!

We booked the couples 80 min. hot stone massage. Although my massage therapist was very nice, I truly felt like she had no idea what she was doing. I could barely feel the stones even after I asked for more pressure. She also did some of the massage over the blanket that I had on top of me. Weird! Halfway through she decided not to use the stones anymore and she did a pretty good job on my neck and shoulders. Just feel like for $ 380 (including tip) they should have better trained therapists.

Spa is beautiful. Nice relaxing environment. But my massage was not relaxing at all. Venus asked what areas she should work on and I asked for my neck and shoulders to get a little more time because they were very tense. She didn’t touch my shoulders or neck. I have never had a massage that those areas aren’t worked on. Venus just didn’t have a relaxing flow to her technique. Felt like she was new. My massage started late and ended early. Very disappointing!

Spa on the Plaza is one of the most relaxing places that you will ever visit. From the excellent customer service, waiting rooms, clean bathrooms and showers; this is a place that is unforgettable in making a long-​lasting impression. If you are with a significant other, the best package deal for the Spa Services is the 110 minute «Sweetheart Special», which consists of a 30 minute soak in an over-​sized herbal bath for two followed by a 50 minute massage on a side-​by-​side bed. If you are looking for a Facial, ask for the best Esthetician, Nuch; she will provide for you the best you’ve ever had. This place will pamper you like no other and you will never want to leave.

Amazing! Went here to treat myself for Valentine’s Day! I know sorry late review! But I’m looking forward to returning. Spa packages are great deals and this facility is clean and gorgeous!

We had a wonderful spa afternoon. Facials, massage and tub really top notch. Started with a steam in the very clean Women’s changing room, then sipped have all tea in the relaxation area. Husband and I enjoyed both therapists. Excellent experience.

I got a package with an aromatherapy massage and facial. Wonderful. The ‘aromatherapy’ part of the massage apparently just means they use a cinnamon scented oil, which did smell great. The facial included a lot of amazing products with amazing smells, but again I wasn’t quite sure what made it ‘aromatherapy’, exactly. I’m definitely getting that same facial again though, no matter what it’s called, because it was the best one I’ve ever had. I’d wholeheartedly recommend Chelsea if you are looking to get a facial. She’s friendly, knowledgable, and very gentle. I had a lot of extractions, and while I wouldn’t have minded if they had hurt, they didn’t at all. She must have prepped my pores really well.
The spa has a very cozy little ‘relaxation room’ which consists of some extra cushy nooks with pillows and throw blankets, and ice water and hot tea. The tea is delicious. You can also use the steam room and pool while you are there. I’d recommend getting there early if you want to do those things, so you don’t re-​open your pores or wash off the lovely products they put on you. The only bad part is that you can’t just stay forever. ;)

Great spa, staff is friendly, the atmosphere is nice, quiet and clean. The massages here are phenomenal, they have great massage therapists, the room is nice and clean and the staff members are so efficient and professional. I will be trying out the gym and pool services soon, I look forward to that but the process to join was easy, specially with a special.

A very generous friend gifted an 80 minute prenatal massage to me. I can not recommend this any more! I’m 35 weeks along with twins so generally always very uncomfortable. But Jessica set me up with a huge pillow to place me in the most deliciously comfortable position. She was very attentive making sure pressure was appropriate. She focused exactly where I asked her to. She must have unlocked some special magic because I now feel like I have proper circulation in my lower legs and feet!!! And the tightness in my low back from months now of not being able to bend at the waist is just GONE! Jessica is simply talented.
The bathroom, shower, and lounge were so relaxing and clean. Fresh lemon water and hot herbal tea are available in the lounge waiting area. Additional staff was always very attentive to tidying up and keeping everything pristine.
I couldn’t be more pleased with my afternoon. Im going to sleep like a baby tonight.

Had a great massage with Jennifer. Loved that she spent extra time on my shoulders and all the extra touches warm neck pillow and hot stones. Loved the shower rooms very relaxing.

I came to Spa on the Plaza about a month ago when my husband was in a conference. I had some time to kill so I decided to treat myself to a manicure and pedicure. The spa is absolutely beautiful and has such a nice feel to it. My manicurist was really professional but also a lot of fun to chit chat with. I could tell she is extremely meticulous about everything, which I love because I tend to be a little picky. The nail polish selection is fantastic. She used a brand of polish on my hands and feet that I wasn’t familiar with but lasted so well, even on my hands. I will definitely be back when we come back to Monterey.

Just enjoyed a fabulous aromatherapy facial from Rhiana — she’s amazing. She explained everything as she went along, asked if I had any skin concerns, etc. The aromatherapy facial is 50 minutes and includes extractions plus a shoulder, arm and neck massage. And everything they use smells absolutely wonderful!
Apparently they’re not doing manicures and pedicures here anymore, so no more free mani check-​in offer. But when you’re here you can use the Portola Hotel pool and jacuzzi and order food and drinks from the restaurant. Fabulous start to girls weekend!

My co-​worker and I booked a reservation to try the MicroSilk Therapy this spa had advertised. The manager was aware of the nature of our visit. We traveled from San Jose specifically for this therapy. There are many benefits to this treatment, so we were anxious to try it.
We were cordially greeted and shown to the changing rooms. The locker, bathroom and shower area was clean and comfortable.
Since they only have one MicroSilk tub, we would have ‘dead’ time while waiting for the other to finish. Given that, we decided to schedule the MicroSilk and Message Package.
My co-​worker would be the first for the MicroSilk Therapy while I started with the message.
The message was nice and extremely relaxing. However, the lotion/​oil used caused an allergic reaction. Within minutes, I could barely breath. Alas, the steam-​room cleared my sinus as quickly as they were clogged.
After the message, I was told the MicroSilk was not working. It was later learned, the MicroSilk function will not operate if the tub filter is not properly cleaned.
An establishment should know their products and services well enough to be aware of a non-​operable function on their tub. It felt like a bait and switch tactic. I will not return and can not recommend this Spa.

In Regards to the Spa portion of the hotel:
Facilities are amazing. I booked the TRavelzoo special for a facial, massage and spa tub. AWESOME. Facial Services from Liz were the best I have ever had… no REALLY. She is amazing. She is an expert on information for your future skin care after services and realistic on products. she doesn’t upsell anything. Ulisses was an amazing masseuse! His expertise when bending and stretching every muscle at both joint was incredibly relazing and beneficial overall. His pressure was firm which I like and I walked out of his massage a new person! I highly recommend to spend some time in there private spa tubs…30 minute quiet time with bubbles and a mimosa. excellent end to a fabulous day at the Portola Spa! The front desk personnel were welcoming and cheerful, helping me into the lockeroom to start the experience.
worth the time and money to start 2015 off with bang!

This was my first visit to The Spa at the Portola Hotel.
The atmosphere is relaxing, staff is friendly, and you get a WONDERFUL massage & facial.

My best friend and I visited the spa the day after the ½ Marathon and were treated royally. I have been to the spa twice before and always get a facial. My friend got a massage. Her masseuse paid special attention to the areas that needed to be worked out after our long run.
I always enjoy and appreciate the calm environment and very attentive staff. The locker room, bathroom and showers are exceptionally clean. In the past I have arrived early and enjoyed the pool and hot tub as well as the steam room. And in terms of price I don’t think they are out of range for other high end spas (Saratoga, Los Gatos). In addition I have found their aestheticians to be knowledgeable and able to provide appropriate product recommendations.
Can’t wait for my next visit.
