Since the first gallery opened in 2006 ZFolio’s goal has been to offer their customers handcrafted treasures of exceptional quality and design. With three locations in Santa Barbara, Solvang and Monterey, California as well as a full e-​commerce website, ZFolio is more than shopping, it is an experience.

Voted top retailer of designer jewelry in the United States for the second year in a row, ZFolio features the work of some of the leading jewelry designers in the world including Alex Sepkus, Atelier Munsteiner, Etienne Perret, Sarah Graham, J. Kennedy Design, Barbara Heinrich, Elizabeth Garvin, Magick Fusager Design, and many others.

Museum quality contemporary art glass by Czech and American artists include the works of Bohumil Elias, Jaromir Rybak, Pavel Havelka, Moser, Paul D. Harrie and Gartner-​Blade.

Gracing the gallery walls are large scale giclee photographic prints of flowers and coast of California by co-​owner Michael Mendizza.

Business Owner

Raised is a small farming village behind the iron curtain, Zdena Jiroutova of ZFolio with her husband and business partner Michael Mendizza have taken the entrepreneurial spirit to heart.

In 2006 Z and Michael opened their first retail location in Solvang, a Danish community north of Santa Barbara. In 2009 they launched their second location on Cannery Row in Monterey. Remarkably, in 2013 – 2014, ZFolio was voted Best Retailer of Designer Jewelry in the United States by the design community, an honor repeated in 2014 – 2015. Also applauding their success are awards from the local Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, Pacific Coast Business Times and Women’s Economic Ventures.

Next came a sophisticated e-​commerce website featuring jewelry, contemporary art glass, Michael’s large format photography and art for the home.

Their newest and most ambitious offering is a new gallery in the heart of Santa Barbara, featuring the best in Czech collector art glass on the west coast.

Stopped in this place on a whim and found the most beautiful display of rose gold plated jewelry with Swarovski crystals. Compared to the other items on display, they were reasonably priced. The staff were very friendly and courteous. I initially left without purchasing anything, but could not get that ring out my head, so I went back and bought it! They were displayed perfectly with great lighting to enhance the crystals. Very happy with the purchase and lots of compliments.

We stopped in tonight when my fiancé had an emergency problem with her engagement ring. It had kinked and could not come off her finger. Thankfully, we went into this jewelry store looking for help and ran into Colleen. She was incredibly friendly, calming, funny, and helpful. With a little windex and some pliers we were able to unkink the ring and get it off her poor swollen finger.
You rock Colleen! Z Folio should give you a raise! We will be back to spend our money here next time we need jewelry. Thank you!

Colleen is an absolute stellar associate and helped us out when me and my honey came late October to take a look at some of their beautiful glass art sculptures.
If you love jewelry or contemporary art this place is heaven! She got to know us and helped us find what we were looking for and even gave some really great advice. Talking to her was like talking to a best friend and someone you can you can trust to have good taste. She was super down to earth and was not pushy even one bit. Her attitude did not change toward us even when we let her know we were just browsing and getting ideas. She dedicated a lot of time showing us men’s and women’s jewelry and told us some really cool facts about the art pieces. Because of this she has gained a faithful customer that will defintely be returning!
The other lady in the boutique at the time didn’t seem very friendly but I’m glad we had such an awesome experience being helped by Colleen.
I highly recommend this boutique because of the top notch customer service but the gorgeous high-​end pieces you will find here that are hard to come by and will catch anyone’s eyes. I would drive all the way out here again just for the quality and selection.

Received amazing customer service from Querra. I came in looking to replace a Monique ring that I had purchased several years ago and lost this past year. It was my favorite ring so I was really upset that I lost it.
I came to Monterey on 7⁄19 and went to Z Folio Gallery to look into replacing the ring. Querra helped me and was very patient as I asked to try on an assortment of rings. I wanted another great Monique ring but it was out of my budget, so I decided to replace the ring I originally came back for. Upon learning that I was there to replace a previous purchase, Querra asked my name, went away for a moment, then came back and told me that since I was a loyal customer coming back to their store to replace the same piece I lost, they were able to offer me 20% off since they understood how upsetting it can be to lose something you really loved. I was so impressed by that and very pleased. I left the store feeling great.
I am so glad I have my favorite ring back, and I am very happy with the excellent customer service I received from Querra. Thank you Querra and Z Folio Gallery for making my day!

I visited Monterey for the first time in October. What a great surprise to find this Gallery. Although overdue this review is well deserved. It really is the only «true» Gallery on Cannery Row. This is sad as Cannery Row has so much potential. Beautiful Storefront spaces with incredible light and views of the Bay being occupied by vendors selling flavored popcorn?. WTF and Absolutely Tragic. The City of Monterey should really try and attract independent artists of all types to occupy these spaces. Painters, Sculptors, Musicians. Why is there no theater group on Cannery Row? Where are the chef run restaurants? Now that my rant is out of my system, here goes. Short and sweet. Great merchandise coupled with great customer service, what’s“s not to like. Also the prices are reasonable. They give individual service with an explanation about the piece and the artist who created it. This creates a conversation between the Gallery Employee and buyer that results not only a better understanding of the artist and the piece of art work you will be purchasing but forms a relationship that results in the customer wanting to return and purchase something else. I would say Bravo to the owners of this Gallery for this philosophy. It’s good business will be back either in person or online.. My advice to someone who is waiting for service. If Both employees are busy, continue to wait or come back just a little later in the day. Go to the Intercontinental for a Cup of Coffee and a little snack which is right next door. I did not stay at this Hotel but me likey likey. What a great location for the Gallery. The Gallery Employee who helped me was Lynn Marcus. I saw her 3 times before deciding to purchase a piece of art glass by Pavel Havelka” Ribbons Round Object”. She was very helpful. I like to talk through a Piece I am considering purchasing and she was great. Thanks Lynn! I have a beautiful piece of original artwork. I’m a local here in the Monterey area, and I love to pop into this shop whenever I am near the Cannery Row area. They have so many beautiful things, and without fail I have always been greeted warmly. On one occasion, I was shopping for a necklace to wear to a special wedding, and the saleswoman was so patient with me as I tried to make my decision. In the end, I picked out one of the shop’s less expensive pendant/​earring sets, and was treated with the kid glove service, as if I had spent thousands of dollars. The necklace and earrings are gorgeous and I am always impressed with the customer service. It’s obvious that the salespeople love working amid such beauty, and they are great at their jobs. As another reviewer wrote, this gallery/​shop really stands out amid all the touristy junk on Cannery Row.

Monterey/​Pacific Grove is where I was raised until I left for college. After having not been to Cannery Row for nearly a decade, I was more than pleased with the addition of this gorgeous gallery. It certainly brings the area up several notches. The jewelry, the glass, the photography, all are stunning to look at. This is definitely the kind of place you want to slowly wander throughout and take in every detail of the craftsmanship of these unique pieces. As an artist/​craftsperson, I was very impressed. Also, they seem to carry something for every budget, and prices seemed very fair.
This review wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the customer service. I was greeted with a smile when I walked into the store, and was treated to excellent service from a very patient saleswoman as I looked in every case, trying on a piece here and there. I wasn’t looking for anything in particular, but just for something to leap out at me. She understood this and was not pushy as we had fun trying pieces on. I ended up loving several different items, but could only leave with one. Eventually I chose a stainless steel ring that I’ve been wearing daily. I couldn’t be happier with it, nor with the treatment I received at Z Folio. These folks are true professionals. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, and wish more boutiques here offered this kind of attentive (but not overbearing) service.

I agree with the other reviewers, great selection, beautiful pieces, but very poor service. My wife and I waited for 20 minutes to be helped. The two employees were busy, one was answering questions from what seemed to be an art student, and another helping someone pick out a necklace. No problem, however they never acknowledged that we were even in the store, no I’ll be with you in a minute, or anything. Unless someone cast an invisible spell on us these people were rude. If you go there and need help make sure to be prepared with a flare gun to get their attention.
Zdena — I appreciate your response, you are correct, my wife and I visited your store three times, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Saturday we were given good service, on Sunday, we came to your store to buy the ring that we looked at on Saturday. You had two employees on the floor, one was talking to two students, the other was helping a man and woman. No one else was in the store. I made eye contact with your employees several times, in fact one of your employees walked right by me, I made eye contact with her, and she said nothing. No one acknowledged that we were there and after 30 minutes of waiting we decided to leave. After we left I called your store several times with no answer. I returned Monday because my wife loved the ring, but not the service we were given. I am sticking by my earlier rating because of the horrible service on Saturday.

What a surprise right in the middle of your typical Cannery Row retailers carrying mostly fridge magnets and theme t-​shirts! I was first glued to their windows — classy, elegant, modern, creative! Dazzling colored glass and tastful jewelry collection. What was even more surprising is that their prices were beyond reasonable. The saleslady was super nice, carrying but not «intrusive».
I bought couple of pieces for myself and my mom, and returned to the store with my friend on the very next day. My friend also purchased a nice little set that she is now wearing on a daily basis.
They even agreed to bend their return policy to allow my mother to return her gift for a full refund (rather than for a store credit) in case she did not like it. What a customer service! My next little getaway to Monterey will definitely include a visit to Z Folio.

I agree with the other Unilocaler. This gallery/​jewelry store has some very beautiful items. Michael and his wife were very friendly and knowledgeable about the pieces and artists that they carry. The prices also seem quite reasonable for what you get. This set of stores (attached to the Intercontinental) are a pleasant change from the «tourist trap» stores along the rest of cannery row.
I would definitely recommend.

All I can say is WOW! I walked by this place in the middle of a conversation with a friend and had to turn around to go back! The displays are enticing, and accurately display the beautiful items inside. It’s half gallery and half jewelery store. One of the nicest stores of this type that I have been to! The prices were reasonable. Not low, and not high (though there were some VERY pricey things, but they were diamond rings, etc, and seemed to be priced right).
Their jewelery collection is incredible. They have beautiful pieces! Very unique, fun, artsy, comtemporary, but classy and elegant. They also had gorgeous wooden jewelery boxes, at competitive prices given the prices of others I have looked at of this quality. There was also some blown glass work, and many other beauties.
I bought necklaces there, and they placed them in really nice boxes. You can tell they care about appearances in this place. The box even closes magnetically. And you should see the bags!
The whole experience was really fantastic. If you’re looking for a gift, or want something fun for yourself, check this place out.
