R Rock Yard

Up to yesterday/​today, my experience with R Rock Yard was very good. We have spent a lot of time and money redoing our landscape and have purchase a majority of our materials from them. We trusted their knowledge as they even boast that they can identify the any type of rock if you were to bring in a sample. Well, that is exactly what we did on ⁸⁄₃₅. We rented a truck, went over to R Rock Yard. I went inside and showed one of the men behind the counter — a sample of the rocks I was looking for (about 5 pieces).One of them took the rock, looked at it an immediately said it was xxxriver rock, another man acknowledged as did one of the females who was around the counter. They then showed me on a map where the bin was. I proceeded to the bin and a loader was there waiting. They loaded about t ton of rock. The rock in the bin was dirty, muddy in some areas and hard to tell what the exact color of the rock was, however, under their advise, we loaded up and paid. I went home, unloaded the rock in front of my home and took the truck back to the place I was renting it from as it was by the hour. I went home and proceeded to load and dump the rock into the area we were landscaping. Halfway through loading and dumping, we noticed more red than beige or brown rock. To our surprise, the it was the wrong color rock, by quite a bit. We called R Rock Yard the next day (today) and started off the conversation by asking them if we brought in a handful of rock, could they determine what type/​color it was, they immediately said yes, definitely. We then advised them that did not work yesterday as we received the wrong color of rock (1 ton –about $ 56). They said to bring it back, we advised them that we had rented a truck and had already unloaded the rock. They said it would not be in their best interest to deliver us a load of rock the color that we wanted. We indicated that we went by their advice, not a budge or alternative (other than bring the rock back and exchange it). This is not an option for us, not only from a cost stand point, but also the principle that we went by the experts advice. If they are unwilling to stand behind their advice, recommendation and in the case of what we have experienced, their expert decision.
There several rock yards within reasonable distance. I assure you that I will purchase all of my landscaping materials elsewhere from this point forward. I will not hesitate to express my displeasure for the lack of Customer Service provided by R Rock Yard. You should have done the right thing and deliver a load of rock the color it should have been as well as stop representing that you can determine what type/​color a rock is in relation to the rock bins you have.
What else would you have needed other than an exact sample???
Lesson learned — experts aren’t really experts, and
When choosing rock, immediately wash off what you are getting and match it up against the sample you have.
