History

Established in 1921.

Robert Morris University was founded in downtown Pittsburgh as the Pittsburgh School of Accountancy. The school’s founder, educator, and accountant, Andrew Blass, rented classroom space in the Blackstone Building, 345 Fifth Ave., and welcomed his first class of 26 young men.

Transformation began in 1962 when, to meet an emerging demand for among students for residences, Robert Morris purchased the 230– acre Oliver Kaufmann estate in Moon Township.

Today approximately 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students from 47 states and 40 countries are enrolled at Robert Morris University, which offers students professional experiences, service learning, global experiences, undergraduate research, campus leadership, and cultural experiences.

More than 100 clubs and organizations help students to develop leadership skills, network professionally and meet friends. RMU also has 23 NCAA Division I athletic programs, including football, men’s & women’s basketball, hockey, and lacrosse
