This establishment seems somewhat upscale, but the front desk women were HORRIBLE and unprofessional. I walk in and they did not even greet me! They just looked up at me as if they were annoyed I walked in, didn’t acknowledge me at all or even crack a smile. The younger receptionist was the rudest– she is very, very prissy (you can tell she thinks she’s the hottest thing that ever walked the earth) and extremely rude. I could hear how she was on the phone– and she had nice phone manners, but wow, horrible in person. It’s such a shame that a ‘high-​end’ place like this has such unprofessional front desk people. The owner needs to hire new staff to reflect the ‘prestige’ of the salon who have BASIC manners and etiquette. I’ll never walk in there again.

Honestly, we live in the land of upscale salons. I’m no farther than 5 minutes from some top salons (3 of which I could walk to), yet I drive out of my way (20 – 25 minutes depending on traffic) to come to Caryn Max West and get my brows done by Randi. The aesthetician rooms are very spa-​like, comfortable, and quiet. Randi has a very gentle hand and the sweetest personality. I am surprised at how relaxed I am despite the discomfort of a brow and lip wax. Randi has also given me some top notch facials. Do not hesitate to book an appointment with her!

I selected this place for a pedicure after reading all of the reviews and checking out their website. My expectations were very high given the slew of five star ratings with detailed explanations. Upon arrival, I only waited 1 – 2 minutes past my appointment time (Friday @ 2:30) to be brought back. Since I had never been there, I was given a brief tour of the facilities before heading into the pedicure room. It really is a beautiful place!
The pedicure room is nice but a little chilly, and the massage chairs only vibrate so the kneading massage I had been looking forward to was out. I opted for their regular pedicure ($ 30), as they explained that the «spa» pedicure ($ 50) was just «longer with extra massage.»
The technician that did my pedicure (Mary) was very nice and friendly, definitely pleasant to sit with for the duration of my visit. The pedicure itself, however, was severely lacking. In fact, it was the most barebones pedicure I have ever gotten. She clipped my cuticles, just slightly, on only two or three toes and the others went untreated. Not only did they visibly still need it, but I had specifically mentioned how much work my cuticles needed to her as soon as I sat down.
Aside from soaking in the jetted tub and buffing away some dead skin (a job that was visibly incomplete both during and after), the only other treatment was a bit of lotion, which barely got rubbed in with ZERO massage, and was for the most part wiped off with a towel. No exfoliants, no hot stones or hot towel, no salt scrub or callous removing soak-​no NOTHING! I really couldn’t believe when she asked for my flip flops that this was all that was going to happen.
When it was time for polish (they have only OPI polish which is excellent quality, but really does not boast a well rounded color selection), she had me get up and move to a different chair, where I sat for a few minutes while she cleaned the tub of the chair I had started at. Then she came over, applied just one coat of the polish (which started chipping less than 48 hours later), and brought me up to the drying station.
At time of payment, the girls at the front were kind of friendly, kind of not so much. They didn’t know anything about the offer on Unilocal (I got a pop up when I checked in for 10% off), but after a few minutes of hemming & hawing, a bit of attitude and being passed to another person, they applied the discount and I was on my way.
As someone who gets pedicures with great frequency, all of which to date have featured several more treatments with a few minutes of massage and cost at most $ 25, I left pretty disappointed and would not go back. It’s too bad, as I just moved to the area and based on other reviews had really thought this would be my new spot. Oh well, on to the next!

I first tried this salon after hearing good things from my friends who have been patrons for years. The service and products are fantastic! The treatment they give actually makes you feel better when you leave, whether it’s after a manicure or a hair cut. The modern décor is relaxing and pleasing to look at while you’re there as well.

We used Carny Max for my daughter’s wedding on May 25^th and they were simply amazing, reasonably priced and the salon is magnificent! From our first encounter with the wonderful and efficient manager, Lydia DePersia, to 2 trials my daughter did for hair and make-​up, to preparation of me and my daughter’s hair the day before, to the team (Jill, Anthi & Maria) who came to our home the morning of the wedding (note: it was a holiday weekend/​Memorial Day), they were organized, creative, friendly, courteous and accommodating! They came the morning of the wedding, were prompt, they set-​up quickly, kept everyone calm and they were so engaging that it seemed like they were part of the family. My daughter had 7 bridesmaids, a close friend, me and her mother-​in-​law and everyone looked simply amazing! People are still talking about how wonderful everyone’s hair and make-​up looked. While it may seem like a minor detail, beautiful hair and make-​up can make all the difference in the world!

Every experience has been wonderful — from making the appointment with the reception staff to meeting each member for the first time. The atmosphere is beautiful and the spa area is extremely relaxing! And, I must not leave out that I’m very pleased with my recent cut & color, facial and pedicure!
I’ve been to many salons and this by far is my favorite!

Great service. I found this tucked away salon via Unilocal reviews and folks were right on. For a great ladies haircut, I recommend Lauren — she is fab and works with you to make sure you get the style you want.

I have been going to Randy religiously for Brazilian waxes. She is so friendly and makes me feel completely comfortable during what could be an embarrassing procedure. Wouldn’t go anywhere else!!! So glad I found her. She also does an amazing eyebrow wax; really takes the time to make them look perfect.

I’ve avoided hair color for years due to a few horrible highlighting experiences in the past. I decided to take a chance with it and couldn’t be happier with the result. I had my highlights done by Brittany Rice, who used a technique called Balayage that I’d actually never heard of before. She spent an hour painting on hand-​selected sections of hair using a board, a brush, and strips of cotton. The end result was a head full of beautiful, natural-​looking, low-​maintenance highlights that were exactly what I had asked for, rather than the horrible, uniform rows of highlights that look horrible growing out on me. Brittany was talented, was able to deliver exactly what I wanted (actually much better than what I had envisioned), and was great fun to talk to for well over an hour. I will most definitely be going back to Brittany for my future highlights.
I originally chose this salon based on positive Unilocal reviews I’d read about Mark Sandoz. His title of «Master Stylist» is quite an understatement; he is truly an artist. I’m up for trying almost anything with my hair, but I’m rarely completely satisfied with the final results. Not this time-​he managed to turn my bland hair into something amazing. Mark is very intelligent and answered my questions by explaining the science behind his answers. He explained exactly why he recommended certain products specifically for my hair. He didn’t try to upsell me on fifteen different expensive products-​I asked for recommendations on the bare necessities and he did exactly that. Usually my style falls out about an hour after I walk out of the salon and I find all the mistakes. This time, I walked out of the salon feeling like a model and it held all day. Best part: using the products he recommended, I have actually been able to reproduce it and there aren’t any mistakes. He actually corrected a horrendous haircut I had in another country that a stylist at a different salon had been unable to fix. The conversation was fantastic, which was a definite bonus, but his talent alone speaks for itself. I rarely take time to write reviews, but my conscience wouldn’t let me get away with not writing this one.

Mark Sandoz!!! That is all you need to know. I read some great reviews of Mark here on Unilocal and decided to go in for a hair cut today. I am in my mid thirties and would like to think that I have seen more than my fair share of stylists and salons in my time, from South Street to Center City, the Main Line to Manhattan. So it is not lightly that I say that Mark is the most talented stylist that I have encountered. Until I sat in his chair, I had never experienced a dry hair cut. Well, let me say that the merit of this approach was certainly not lost on me– pure genius! Nothing makes more sense than cutting hair when it is dry, especially if you are like me and have very thick hair that needs lots of weight taken out for funky, textured styles. He is obviously extremely well trained as a master cutter and colorist (though he did not do my color this time, I plan to go for color in future). In addition to training, he employs quite an impressive set of styling products and specialized cutting tools/shears…the right tools for just about any head of hair– certainly mine! As a new client we sat down and chatted about what I wanted (I brought photos) and his attention was entirely on me and my hair. I was not being rushed through as just another booking. He gave me his undivided attention and seemed to be as vested in the outcome of my hair cut as I was– how refreshing! All through the cut, there was a pleasant and humorous banter going on between the two of us and the other clients and stylists in the immediate area. The overall feeling was very welcoming and not the intimidating holier-​than-​thou atmosphere that some high end salons put out. Mark was very HUMAN, but still delivered a 5 star service commensurate with my expectations for this salon. Mark approached the entire endeavor from start to finish as an ARTIST, and (if all the rest wasn’t enough) that really cinched the deal for me– I will definitely be going back. I highly recommend him, and you will see the artistry in your hair when you walk out the door. P. S. I have never written any reviews online before and I am unlikely to do so again, so take this as a testimony of how impressed I am!

I am new to the area and was looking for a new salon. I had tried a few, but didn’t like any enough to make it my «home» salon, so I continued to travel to NYC for my haircuts. Not wanting to make another trip to NY, I searched Unilocal for a salon in Moorestown — Caryn Max West had good ratings, was nearby, and the location was attractive, so I made the call and was assigned to *Mark*. What a stroke of pure luck! He is a true pro — a veteran of the industry, and really knows what he’s doing. He gave me a keratin treatment — and demonstrated thorough knowledge of the process and chemistry behind it — it was clear he understood what he was doing. It is the best keratin treatment I’ve had in 3+ years. I had booked the appointment for the keratin treatment only, but was so impressed with his knowledge that I asked him for a cut as well. So glad I did. I have a terrific haircut! No more NYC! As Mark cut, he explained the methodology of the cut and the layering, as well as the best type of cut for my facial structure — the guy knows his stuff. If you are lucky enough to get an appointment with Mark, take it — you will be so glad you did.

I took Stephanie’s recommendation and booked an appointment with Sean. I was not disappointed. He took a few minutes to evaluate my hair. Then he started off by telling me what he liked about the cut I had, what direction he’d like go, and asked specifically what I wanted. He really nailed my style and what I was looking for. What a breath of fresh air to find a stylist who knows what he’s doing, who listens to you, but also has his own vision and syncs the two together perfectly! To top it off, it started to rain heavily just as I was finishing up. He walked me to my car with an umbrella — Nice touch! I’ll be back!

I’m very skeptical when it comes to salons and even more skeptical about people messing with my hair, but I have never felt more comfortable. The wait was pretty much null and Sean Dickey did things for my hair that I didn’t think were possible. The price wasn’t outrageous and time flew by with all of the awesome conversation and ambiance. I’m now willing to drive 40 minutes out of my way to get my hair done. That’s a big deal.

Really enjoyed my Spa Service, I will go to Maria any and every time I can to get a quick eyebrow wax or facial!
