I have been passing by this place every day since I moved here in June. I am glad that I finally he stop by for a small hike it was beautiful in October in fact i think that this might have been the last«nice» day I will see. I am not sure yet. The hike is a little challenging but beautiful this time of year. However I have to warn you there is No food. I saw a gentleman leave a bad review for this and I am not quite sure why. So if you are looking to pic NIC it it won’t happen here. I love how there are stops that tell you about the natural beauty that you see!!! I will definitely be back:-)

Let me start off by saying that the Core Arboretum does not serve food. I have visited the place many times and have yet to see even a concession stand. The Arboretum is a good place to walk a dog but NOT a good place to have dinner. The only thing I have seen at the Arboretum in the way of food has been a half eaten Mcdonalds cheeseburger that someone discarded along the trail. The burger was covered with ants and did not appear appetizing at all. I would not recommend the Core Arboretum to others. If you are looking for a bite try Clutch Wing Shop which is less than a mile down the road. I really hope the owners of the Core Arboretum see this review and make the necessary changes. It is quite misleading to advertise yourself as a restaurant and then refuse to serve food. I didn’t even see any evidence of a kitchen, only a bunch of stumps and the occasional pile of dog shit. I will be forwarding this message to the district manager in the hopes that some serious changes are made.

Morgantown, WV is surrounded on all sides by scenic beauty. Cooper’s Rock to the north, Dorsey’s Knob to the south, and Valley Falls a little past that. Not to mention the Gorge and the Monongahela not too far away. In Morgantown proper, however, scenic beauty is not necessarily the strong suit. The campus has its moments and the river, albeit polluted beyond recognition, can draw the eye when the sun’s at the best angle. The Core Arboretum and its neighboring trails is prime real estate when it comes to beauty, peace, and quiet in the area. Though the Arboretum provides only a few simple loops around its modest land grant, it never ceases to amaze me how relaxing and refreshing each trip proves to be. Whether walking or running, no matter your familiarity with its paths, it’s a little piece of nature that shifts with the season. The birds and creatures, the color and size of the leaves, the makeup of the path itself — it all seems to shift with each and every visit. The Core Arboretum is therapy, nature’s own psychiatrist couch only a stone’s throw away from the Evansdale campus. There are roughly 15 – 20 parking spaces, so if you live a little farther away, you should be easily able to find a spot on any afternoon or morning. Though perhaps ungrounded, I would suggest steering clear of the Arboretum after dark, especially for the ladies out there. There is, naturally, no security presence and within the tree-covered canopy, it is not always easy to make a quick return to the parking lot. Don’t let this dissuade you from a visit, but just remember to practice safety whenever you go exploring alone.

This has been one of my favorite places on Earth for 25 years and counting. Just spend a nice sunny fall, spring, summer, heck even winter day here and you will see why.

The memories of long runs through and around the arboretum with my teammates is in the list of experiences that you can never exchange or get back once it’s done. The pain, the blood, the tears and the sweat that we as a group left in the arboretum in our conquest to be the best we could be can only be measured by those who were there to experience it! This place brought us together made us realize that no matter how individualized our sport is we together are the WVU Women’s Track & Field team bound for greatness. I’ve never been a fan of nature but I must give props when props are due so thank you Mother Nature for making me the athlete that I was meant to be.

I love this place. When I lived in Morgantown, I don’t think I appreciated it as much as I do now. I guess as they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder, and in this case, I truly believe it. It is quiet and peaceful, with great trails, and ton’s of different species of trees and flowers to appreciate. The only bad thing, is getting in and out of the parking lot onto Mon Blvd, when the students are in… it can be a bitch.

Right on Monangahela Blvd going toward downtown from the Coliseum. Lots of nice paths that go down the hill to the Mon River below. Beautiful spring wildflowers. And it cross the rail trail bike path that goes into town and out to Star City. Very nice.
