History
Established in 1987.
Gibbie’s Pub & Eatery opened it’s doors in August of 1987 after a summer of refurbishment that transformed the former confectionery and diner into the warm and inviting restaurant and local meeting place that it is today. Morgantown nostalgia fills this Historic Pub and Eatery.
Some may recall the bustling Confectionery and its connection with the Metropolitan Theatre, located across the street. The Theatre was built in the 1930’s and run by the Comuntzis family in conjunction with the confectionery. Its stage hosted celebrities like Helen Hayes, Mickey Rooney, Bob Hope, and Harry Houdini.
If you listen to the «local lore» you might hear faint
rumors of a tunnel beneath the street that connected
this building and the Met affording esteemed guests
and performers access to a «speak easy» that
existed here during the prohibition era.
More recently, this landmark has been «The Dining Room», a diner that was a local favorite for many years and briefly Zach
