Grassroots Natural Market

This store is absolutely amazing! All of the employees are so friendly and the food is delicious. Very vegan friendly as well. And even if you’re not a vegan they have a amazing options. The vegan cake especially the carrot cake tastes identical if not better to cakes with animal products. As a non vegan I was very impressed. The juices are very filling and yummy. The girls who works in the deli are always ready to help and has an warming attitude and great recipe ideas. Definitely better quality food and prices than whole foods. If I could give 6 stars I would!

I alternate between shopping here and at Wholefoods a short distance away. Wholefoods has a better selection on some of the non-​perishables and organic veggies — and I like their fish counter, but I love that Grassroots has prepared foods and they are all organic. I am absolutely hooked on their eggless egg salad and vegan slaw. The staff are always super friendly and helpful. I am taking a star off the review because I just wish they would offer more recyclable packaging for their prepared foods. I hate to compare them to Wholefoods again but why not look into the compost-​friendly packaging that WF has. Plastic is so yesterday in the health world and not as recycling friendly as one would think. Just a suggestion…

If I can give these place 10 stars I would. GREAT vegan /​vegetarian options. Homemade goodies, smoothies and juices. The food is always fresh and they are always so helpful and bend backwards to make the customer happy … I love this store :)

If you enjoy seeing an owner of an establishment running around and abusing polite young people, this is the place for you. First time I went, it was a great environment and I received wonderful customer service (hence my previous review) however last two times I went, all of these great young people were being yelled at in front of myself and other customers as well and they were actually pushed around, by what I was told was the owner of the establishment. Not spending another dollar here, I felt extremely uncomfortable due to having a sister in the service industry.

I really enjoy the prepared foods here, especially the turkey burger. They always have free samples of salads, slaws, etc. out and I almost always take advantage to see what they have to offer.
The price is what you would expect for a health food store with organic, vegan, and gluten-​free products. Overall, there is a good selection of products and it’s nice to have a place like this in the area.

A nice vegan/​healthy option in a town that caters to unhealthier possibilities. Maybe consider serving smoothies too? Nonetheless, great staff and «good» stuff. Thanks.

Great selection of probiotics and less expensive than Wholefoods. So happy they kept the health food store, revamped and made it even better!

This place has to be one of the best kept secrets in northern new jersey when it comes to having one incredible lunch or dinner where you can 1) sample anything at all that you are thinking of ordering and then 2) tell the server just how much you want of any given selection and then have one of the best meals of your life… It is like going to a fine restaurant where the cook tells you he wants you to sample anything you are thinking of ordering and then serves you the amount of what you wanted on your plate… Also no throwing your meal in a microwave to heat it up as long as you have a few minutes to wait for the oven they prefer to use to heat your items… The selection they have in the deli café in the back of the store is amazing with descriptions of every item showing all the ingredients… I would guess I had over 60 salads and entries to choose from and all were fresh many with those ingredients I know I am supposed to eat but never expect them to taste good… I am wrong when it comes to this place because the salads and entrees are always delicious and I suggest everyone find the morristown location and sample and design your meal .I know what I am talking about cause I eat there every single day for real… (lunch time I am at the tables) and I would invest in this concept of lunch and dinner if I could start a business.).The curried chicken salad is my favorite although all the other choices give me alot to think about and given I can sample everything in the display guarantee how good everything is… The staff is also amazing –but my comments are for the morristown location… You will be glad you made it to this store! If you try it once you will be a believer !

I don’t mind paying a lot for a small cup of kale and apple juice with protein. But at least fill the cup more than half way. $ 8 for 3 oz is shameful. Also, it’s a sad story that I waited for 10 min, with no one in front of me, to order the drink. Then I waited another 10 min, with no one in front of me, to order food. I walked out. Hey management, when people come in to your store at 1:30 for lunch and have to wait 20 min with no line, maybe consider offering them some level of service. The turkey burgers looked great too…

I may be in the minority here but I used to occasionally go to the old Health Shop and think it was a more interesting store. They had a vast inventory and I always enjoyed looking around. Now that it’s Grassroots, it’s prettier but duller. Still appears to be nice store .I’ll back and give it a more thorough going over.

great shop! I was greeted when I walked in and I felt like I was at home. lots of vegan choices !! you will not be disappointed I was a bit disappointed that the ready to eat deli area did not have more selections and as a patron with many food allergies knowing what is in per-​made good is so essential. our young man behind the counter was nice however he could not answer several questions about what ingredients were used in several items posted.

Grassroots is more of a specialty shop than a full service grocery store. Their produce is 100% organic but is limited in selection which you can look at as an inconvenience or a sign that they choose only the best. Their gluten free, supplement, and specialty sections are well stocked (sensitive skin makeup, special vitamins in every flavor, etc). Milk from every kind of plant to satisfy every dietary or ethical need was available. Like the Store That Shall Not Be Named they have a «deli» with prepared foods and a salad bar. No sense whining about the price — you’re here because you’re in a pinch or because you believe in their ethos.

i don’t get this place, prices for all groceries are like 40% — 100% over even places like whole foods.
and there’s nothing special, i mean i ain’t no hippie, but i do like fresh ingredients, but this place… eh, why?

Good stuff but I thought sticker shock only happened on car lots. $ 9 for a 14-​ounce bag of gluten-​free pretzels really rocked my world and not in a good way.
Anyhow some people in my life do better the less gluten they eat so I was at Grassroots to put together a Christmas package. They have a large wall (on the right as you walk in) with gluten-​free versions of all the foods typically made from wheat, including crackers, pasta, snacks, cookies etc. I bought penne pasta at $ 5 for 12 ounces, black sesame crackers at $ 4 for 3.5 ounces (yes there’s a decimal there :), and a bag of Bob’s Red Mill biscuit mix for $ 6 for 24 ounces. I’m happy with the quality and the variety, not so happy with the price.
This newly opened store is a notable improvement on the old store, with a much more open feel, far more attractive produce and it just smells better, what can I say. The juice bar is still in the exact same place as before, guess the remodel only went so far LOL.
Vegetarian rating: 4 stars because there’s just all sorts of produce, many veg choices at the prepared food bar, and of course the many juices.
Giving it 3 stars because I simply don’t know where else to buy these foods, this store came thru for me on availability, just wish it wasn’t so expensive.

I have been searching for a local alternative to the Whole Foods Market in my area for a while now. I was really excited to hear that a new store was coming to the old Health Shop location in Morristown since I was never very impressed with their store. Grassroots opened three months ago and has quickly become my favorite place to eat on my lunch break and do a lot of my shopping.
They have a really nice organic produce section that is 100% organic, which I love. I hate going to Whole Foods and having to check if things are organic or not. Here I don’t have to worry about that! Their selection is extensive and reasonably price, which is another upside since I am on a pretty tight budget. A good bit of their produce is locally sourced and I was impressed to find a lot of local grocery (and even some body care and supplements items) that are from local or east coast companies.
I love their deli and eat their at least once a week. They have a wide selection and I can always find a lot of vegan and gluten free things for myself and nice fish and meat dishes for my girlfriend. She loves their sandwiches! The staff is nice and helpful, too! There have been a couple of times when I needed help finding things in their supplement department and have always been able to ask someone and find what I need quickly. They are knowledgeable and know their products well.
I would totally recommend shopping here. Its a great alternative to Whole Foods and I’m really glad they are in my neighborhood now!

I wanted to like this place, but I was disappointed in more than a few areas. The produce selection is weak and a very small percentage of the store– they do have a small selection of microgreens and some sprouts but no more than King’s or the Market near Staples. Their produce is also expensive– many of the items are $ 1+ more than Kings. I would have no problem paying that price if it was local, seasonal produce but everything comes from Cali, Florida, Mexico, or South America (they mark them). Juice bar is a nice opton, but costs much more than Jungle Juice across the street and they charge you for every substitution.
I guess it’s a good place to go if you need allergy-​free specialty items but it’s mostly packaged shelf-​stable foods and a lot of junk-​type snack foods.

Grassroots is your basic neighborhood organic/​natural market with everything from fresh produce to vitamins to your bulk section and everything in between.
They also have a deli with tons of fresh sides, a small salad bar and a juice bar.
The only real downside is the price. Natural Market + Morristown = Pricey, especially when there is a Trader Joe’s only 15 minutes away. (Ex. premade turkey sandwich $ 7 — yikes!)
But for when you’re in a bind and just need those few items this place will most likely have what you need.
Nice addition to the area.
